Immunization campaigns and vaccine 20,910 small ruminants (goat and sheep) to prevent from diseases, and 4572 drenching (4132 small rumi- nants and 440 big livestock) Through livestock vaccination, 859 HHs of UC Faqeer Abdullah were provided with fodder assistance (134,700 Kg of Wanda Feed and 41,100 Kg of Wheat Straw) for 3,721 small ruminants and 274 big livestock, fodder distributed in the month of August 2019. HIGHLIGHTS:

methodology and tools. Baseline conducted for the 3 sec-tors i.e. Agriculture Food Security (A&FS), Economic Recov-er Market System (ERMS), Water Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) and Community based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM). Sami Foundation covered 32 villages from dis-trict Umerkot, where team filled 96 tools and conducted 32 focus group discussion.

Program Inception Workshop Sindh Drought Resilience Program induction workshop held at Umerkot from July 17-18, 2019 jointly with Sami Foundation and Sukaar Foundation organized by Concern Worldwide team. Induction workshop started with the in-troduction of participants from implementing partners and Concern WW. However, key discussion held on policies & compliances, and accountability. Along that, a detailed dis-cussion held on key sectors; CBDRM, WASH, Livelihood, agriculture and livestock, M&E tools for CBDRM, FSL and WASH, M&E framework, reporting formats. In the output, program team developed a tentative Detailed Implementa-tion Plan (DIP) and Procurement Plan.

Project Introductory Meetings with community (BBCM) SDRP team conducted 28 of introductory meeting in 28 villages, where 506 number of men, 1539 number of wom-en participated. The key objective of introductory meeting was to introduce about organization, its funding donor (Concern Worldwide, and USAID OFDA), and major compo-nents of Sindh Drought Resilience Program, i.e. Agriculture Food Security (A&FS), Economic Recover Market System

1. SINDH DROUGHT RESILIENCE PROGRAM: Sami Foundation implementing “Sindh Drought Resili-ence Program” in district Umerkot, that is funded by Con-cern Worldwide and USAID OFDA. Program objective is to assist in early recovery and building resilience of drought-affected communities which are extremely vul-nerable and exposed to drought risk. Sindh Drought Re-silience Program (SDRP) is multi-sectorial Program which is being implementing in district Umerkot started on July 01, 2019 and will end on January 31, 2021.

SECTORS: 1. Risk Management Policy and Practice: To increase the resilience of drought-affected vulnerable communities and local institutions through mobilization, awareness raising, capacity building, and early warning system to holistically reduce the loss of lives and mitigate the drought effects.

2. Agriculture and Food Security: To improve food security and livelihoods of the target drought affected communities of districts Tharparkar and Umerkot

3. Economic Recovery and Market System: To help people develop and improve their livelihoods and support key market systems to return to full functionality and to reduce the economic and social impact of disas-ters.

4. Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH): To support drought-affected communities through im-

proved access to water, and hygiene knowledge and

practices to reduce associated public health risks.

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES: Baseline of SDRP Sami Foundation with support of Concern WW conduct-ed the program level baseline for the Sindh Drought Re-silience Program. Sami Foundation’s M&E department with support of Concern’s M&E Unit developed baselines

and communities oriented on importance of having NIC and Vote and its power in establishing democracy and IEC material developed in Sindhi Language disseminated among communities and NADRA requirements in Sindhi language highly appreciated by communities.

Sessions with Students: Total 04 sessions with school children were held to com-municate them about the importance of NIC and communi-cation of same message to their parents at home. Total 572 students participated in these sessions including girls 533. In Government Middle School Helario Pir, 36 boys and 02 girls attended the session, in GGHS Main Mithi 178 girls attended, in GGHS North Colony Mithi 200 girls attended and in GGHS Chelhar 153 girls attended and students were oriented on having NIC and vote importance and among students IEC material also disseminated.

Door-to-Door visits: In follow-up of the community meetings, meetings with elders, religious leaders 288 door to door visits conducted in 08 census blocks for identification and registration of un-registered women. During the reporting month total 288 women identified for listing and 288 listing also uploaded in PMIS.

Public Forum: During reporting month 03 public forums organized and total 162 females participated including 42 females, in Community Midwifery School Event 15 male and 42 fe-males participated, in Government Boys High School Diplo 51 male and in Raichand Rathore Library Hall Chelhar 54 male participated and in public forums participation was Councilors, UC Chairman, Teachers, Community Activists, Media Representatives, Businessmen and others participat-ed and participation oriented regarding project objective and nature of intervention as well as and in events IEC ma-terial as disseminated among participants.

Meeting with Religious Leaders and Elders: 09 meetings conducted in reporting month and participants of meetings 47 male and meetings with religious leaders and elders supported in identification for listing.

2. SELP Phase-III Project Presentation (Cumulative Progress Presentation) Mithi, Tharparkar

Community Meetings: In reporting month 30 community meetings conducted, in Taluka Chachro 10, Diplo 08, Kaloi 03, Mithi 05 and 04 in Taluka Nangarparkar against the target of 20 meetings and 433 participants attended these meetings. These meetings aimed to orient, mobilize and sensitize people so that all un-registered women in their families can be identified and facilitated to get their NIC and register themselves as voter.

Meetings with Community Leaders and Elders: 09 meetings conducted with community leaders (39 male) and elders for their orientation on importance of NIC for women and seek their support for identification of unreg-istered women in villages and facilitate these women in acquiring NICs.

Information Stalls: During reporting period 20 information stalls organized

for cash assistance while 2,603 HHs were identified for fod-

der assistance for their livestock heads.

Livestock Management Training: Out of 100 sessions, 70 sessions have been conducted to

improve knowledge and skills of 2516 livestock holders re-

garding diseases, fodder handling, vaccination types and its

timings, breeding of livestock etc. There were 497 men and

2019 women who benefited from livestock management

training.

Livestock Vaccination: Besides this, project team run immunization campaigns and vaccine 20,910 small ruminants (goat and sheep) to pre-vent from diseases, and 4572 drenching (4132 small rumi-nants and 440 big livestock) Through livestock vaccination, there are total 1673 number of household benefited. Training of CLEWs: For sustainability of these basic services in community, 15

Community Livestock Extension Workers (CLEWs) were se-

lected for livestock management training. However, these

15 (CLEWS) are attending 22 days extensive training started

from August 25, 2019 at Sindh Agriculture University Tando

Jam. After training, they will provide basic services to com-

munities for initial treatment of the livestock at village lev-

el.

Provision of Cash Assistance: Sami Foundation supported 222 most vulnerable families in

cash assistance, comprised of 216 Men, 250 women and

545 children got in cash assistance through Concern Rapid

Fund before Eid-ul-Azha so that people meet their basic

needs

WASH Component: Under wash component 63 sessions have been conducted in multiple villages of UC Khejrari, where 583 men and

3. Provision of Fodder for Livestock, Multi-purpose Cash Assistance and WASH support to Drought Affected Families of Taluka and District Umarkot: Sami foundation (SF) is implementing a project with col-

laboration of Concern Worldwide and funded by USAID

OFDA “Provision of Fodder for Livestock, Multi-purpose

Cash Assistance and WASH support to Drought Affected

Families of Taluka and District Umarkot.”. The objectives

of the project are; (1) Immediate supply of Wanda feed to

the drought affected families for reducing livestock mor-

tality, (2) To meet the immediate basic needs most vulner-

able groups in the drought affected targeted villages, (3)

To ensure drought-affected populations have adequate

access to drinking water and improved knowledge of hy-

giene practices to be achieved in the project duration of

three months. Apart from the project duration, Sami

Foundation team achieved results.

PROJECT ACTIVITIES: Broad Based Community Meetings BBCM: Broad Based Community Meetings were conducted in 39

target villages of UC Khejrari and Faqeer Abdullah to intro-

duce project objectives. After project introduction village

support group was formed with consensus of villagers that

is comprised of 07 members including men and women.

Village Support Group are formed in 37 village of UC

Khejrari and Faqeer Abdullah.

House Hold Assessment: Sami Foundation project team with support of VSG mem-

bers collected socio-economic status of 4,442 households

from most vulnerable 37 villages of UC Khejrari and Fa-

qeer Abdullah. Project team assessed total 4,442 HHs, and

based on the analysis and criteria, 220 HHs were identified

1059 women participated. However, in the same UC Khejrari, 25 hand pumps were identified and rehabilitated to benefit 976 households.

Provision of fodder for livestock: This is the basic component of the project, under which

859 HHs of UC Faqeer Abdullah were provided with fodder

assistance (134,700 Kg of Wanda Feed and 41,100 Kg of

Wheat Straw) for 3,721 small ruminants and 274 big live-

stock, fodder distributed in the month of August 2019.

Monitoring visit of Concern Worldwide Sami Foundation hosted a meeting at its head office Umerkot with delegation of USAID OFDA and Concern WorldWide, Team comprised of Mr. Ali Gohar Khan Pro-gram Management Specialist OFDA, Mr. Amir Malik Pro-gram Director, Mr. Iqbal Shahid Program Coordinator Con-cern worldwide RAPID fund, for ongoing Concern Rapid Project in district Umerkot.

4. Micro Finance & Enterprise Development Project

Sami Foundation Micro Finance Program team disbursed loan payment of 2.1 million Pakistani rupees to 103 benefi-ciaries of multiple group. However, 50 persons got individ-ual benefit from loan payment of 1.6 million Pakistani ru-pees

This month total 12 introduction meetings & orientation session conducted, however, 92 application distributed and team received 83 application at office.

One of the beneficiary Mr. Long 21 years young man, sell-ing some cleaning and hygiene material on small cart in Umerkot city. Micro Finance Program of Sami Foundation Umerkot disbursed an amount where Mr. Long has im-proved business and have increased monthly income.

OTHER EVENTS: Meeting with Sindh Agriculture University Sub Cam-pus Umerkot Sami Foundation has initiated Sindh Drought Resilience Program (SDRP) in collaboration with CONCERN-WW and USAID OFDA to assist drought affected communities in ear-ly recovery and resilience building. Keeping the objective in view Sami Foundation team com-prising on Mr. Hyder Samejo and Mr. Manoj Kumar visit-ed Sindh Agriculture University sub Campus Umerkot for future collaboration to improve income of vulnerable com-munities through production of Mushrooms, Kitchen Gar-dening and Agro-forestry. However, SAU representatives Mr. Jan Muhammad Mari Director SAU Sub Campus, Mr. Muahmmad Ismail Bhatti Associate Professor, Mr. Vishan Das Assistant Professor as-sured to extend their support in Mushroom production, kitchen gardening and diseases free nursery at Umerkot.

Tree Plantation at Sindh Agriculture University Sub-Campus Umerkot Mr. Ghulam Mustafa Khoso Executive Director Sami Foun-dation, planted trees and flowers along with Civil Society members; Ghulam Rasool Samejo, Bansi Malhi, Sardar Bha-yo, Hafiz Mehran, Arbab Naik Muhammad, Muhammad Bux Kunbher, Imtiaz Khoso, Abdullah Khoso, Hyder Samejo, Manoj Kumar, Sobia Jamro, Imam Bux Khaskheli, and Activ-ists at Sindh Agriculture University Sub Campus Umerkot.

Mr. Jan Mohamamd Muree Director SAU Sub Campus and his team, welcomed all respectable to take part in tree plantation drive.

Three days training on Information Management by FAO Sami Foundation team member Mr. Manoj Kumar partici-pated in three days training on Information Management, that held at Indus Hotel Hyderabad from August 28-30, 2019 by United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.

Coordination Meeting with AZRI Arid Zone Research Institute (AZRI) Umerkot, is a fertile spot in desert where they are experimenting number of verities alike; grasses, fruits, vegetables, indigenous trees and much more. AZRI team has set an example to make Thar green through plantation of indigenous and fruit trees on saltish/saline water. We all should learn the practices and studies researches which Dr. Attaullah Khan and his team have done under Ariz Zone Research Institute. Sami Foundation is going to establish demo plats, kitchen gar-dening, and agroforestry under Sindh Drought Resilience
