council with the purpose of providing a youth (12 – 24 years) perspective on policies and plans. The committee has its own designated budget to run projects and events to address youth issues, infuse youth culture and to connect with the wider youth community. Programme advances skills of community health workers and those who interact with Maori communities as part of their mahi. Students gain research and analytical skills, investigate government policies and their impacts on hauora, and look at strategies to improve hauora Maori, amongst other kaupapa.
