Choosing Your ModuleEnclosed in the distance learning pack will be an Application Form. If you wish to register onto the distance learning programme, please complete this form. Page 3: Programme

Module MaterialSome of the distance learning modules wrap around a textbook; this information will be listed on the Module Information Sheets, which are enclosed. The textbooks can be purchased from the Dental Postgraduate Department and purchase information will be made available before commencement of the course.

Some of the distance learning modules include a practical assignment. All materials and plaster models needed to undertake assignments are included in the module package and will be sent with the unit. Suitable packaging, along with addressed envelopes, are provided for the return of assignments.

Study DayA non-refundable fee of £15.00 will be levied for refreshments and lunch for the Study Day. The department endeavours to give as much notice as possible of the date of the Study Day. Usually, one Study Day will be held at a Postgraduate Centre in South Wales. If there are a large number of module participants in the North Wales area, a Study Day may be held to aid participants travelling long distances.

If a Study Day is missed, it may be possible to attend the Study Day the following year, provided the module is running that year.

About the CourseEach distance learning module consists of five units. The first of the units will be sent out in January along with a module timetable which will inform you of when each subsequent unit will be issued and when to return assignments to the department. Each assignment will be assessed by a Module Tutor and a feedback sheet from the tutor will be returned following submission of a home-based exercise; this will include the grade awarded by the Module Tutor.

Following satisfactory completion of a distance learning module, a Certificate of Satisfactory Completion will be issued; this will also include verifiable CPD hours which will be awarded as follows:5 hours for each satisfactorily completed assignment of each unit5 hours for the study dayThis is equal to 30 CPD hours for each module

Web-based ModulesThe department has developed a number of well established distance learning modules on line. We currently offer four modules via the dental postgraduate website:– < Oral Medicine< Psychiatric Disorders for the GDP< Health & Safety in Dental Practice< Imaging in Dentistry< Orthodontic Diagnosis< Adhesive Restorations

Details are available on our website at: www.dentpostgradwales.ac.uk/pdf.htm. Assignments will be assessed in the same way as those not undertaken on line.

Page 4: Programme

More InstructionsTo aid the smooth running of the course, we would be grateful if participants could adhere to the following pointers:

Copies must be kept of each assignment. This helps tremendously, if assignments are mislaid in the post and a request is made to forward another copy.

Names must be clearly written on all pages of the assignment and labelled on practical assignments, along with the Homework Covering Sheet which will be included with each assignment. Please note: assignments will not be marked without this information.

Assignments are to be returned in the addressed enveloped provided, directly to the Course Administrator and not the Module Tutor.

Once an assignment is received at the department, an acknowledgement card or email will be sent to notify participants that their assignment has been received and is being processed through the department for marking. Please keep acknowledgments, as this is proof that we have received your assignment.

HelpA 24 hour answer phone is available; the department will endeavour to respond to calls within 48 hours. Two course administrators are available to answer any queries; contact details are as follows:Mrs Jan Prosser-Davies / Mrs Kath LiddingtonDental Postgraduate Department: direct line: 029 20743959Email Addresses: [email protected] / [email protected]

The Module Tutor will also be available should there be any queries regarding the units or home-based assignments. To contact the Module Tutor, please contact the Dental Postgraduate Department on the above number, in the first instance.
