Dear colleague,

it is my pleasure to announce you the “III International Congress IFUNA” which will be held at the Dental School - Lingotto, University of Turin (Italy) from the 1st through the 4th October 2009 and which is organized by the department of orthodontics.The IFUNA (International Functional Association) has been founded in 2007 in Paris. The aim of this association is 1) to organize a network between Universities and associations interested in the functional orthodontics, 2) to preserve the already existing techniques teaching them to the young orthodontists, 3) to develop new know-how and to analyze the relationships between the anomalies of mastication and the health of the body, 4) to spread the functional therapies.About the network, right now are involved the Universities of Turin (Italy), Moscow (Russia), Barcelona (Spain), Toluca (Mexico) and we are trying to obtain the collaboration of La Havana University (Cuba).To preserve the functional techniques already existing, in the meeting in Paris 2007, IFUNA decided to create a worldwide library with the literature published in the functional orthodontic field, and I am pleased to say that the chosen university is the University of Turin. To develop new knowledge we are working to obtain “official agreements” for an international scientific collaboration between the interested Universities, as it is happening between the University of Turin and the Universities of Moscow (Russia) and Lodz (Poland), beyond the University of Rochester - New York (USA), already signed. The agreement considers also the exchange of students of the orthodontic school and PhD students also.About the spreading of the functional therapy, courses has already been organized in Europe, Central and South America, with volunteers speakers.

voglio segnalarti il “III International Congress IFUNA” che si svolgerà dal 01/10 al 04/10/2009 presso la Dental School del Lingotto, Congresso organizzato dalla mia Cattedra.L’IFUNA (International Functional Association) è stata fondata nel 2007 a Parigi, con lo scopo di 1) formare un network tra Università e singole associazioni interessate all’Ortodonzia Funzionale, 2) preservare le tecniche già esistenti insegnandole alle nuove generazioni di ortodontisti, 3) sviluppare nuove conoscenze e analizzare i rapporti tra le anomalie funzionali della masticazione e la salute del resto del corpo e 4) diffondere il Funzionalismo. Per ciò che concerne il network, al momento hanno aderito (oltre a quella di Torino) le Università di Mosca (Russia), di Barcellona (Spagna), di Toluca (Messico) e si sta cercando di ottenere l’adesione dell’Università di La Havana (Cuba).Al fine di preservare le tecniche già esistenti, già nell’incontro di Parigi 2007, l’IFUNA ha deciso di creare una biblioteca mondiale della letteratura pubblicata nel campo dell’ortodonzia funzionale, e ho il piacere di comunicarti che la sede prescelta è l’Università di Torino. Al fine di sviluppare nuove conoscenze si stanno stipulando “accordi quadro” di collaborazione scientifica internazionale fra le Università interessate come quelli in via di definizione tra l’Università di Torino e quelle di Mosca (Russia) e Lodz (Polonia), oltre quello già in atto con l’Università di Rochester - New York (USA), che prevede anche lo scambio di Specializzandi e di Dottorandi.Per ciò che concerne la diffusione del Funzionalismo si sono già organizzati corsi in Europa, Centro e Sud America, su base volontaria da parte degli oratori.

Welcome Address Dear Colleagues and Friends

On behalf of IFUNA, the International Functional Association, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the III International IFUNA Congress which will be held at the new Dental School-Lingotto, University of Turin (ITALY) from October 1 to October 4 2009. IFUNA has been created in response to the demand and interest of a growing segment of our profession to build an International platform for the documentation, preservation and education of Functional treatments-starting to treat at an early age and treating the whole body. The aim of the IFUNA is to become a network for everybody in the world that is interested in Functional treatment. Today IFUNA is engaged in many projects internationally: A) Education, B) International Research Projects, C) Publishing a new Handbook of Functional Treatment , due this year, D) the IFUNA Electronic Journal, also due later this year, and, E) From 2010, an International Masters Programme in Functional Orthopaedics with the University of Barcelona, Spain. In this Congress we are privileged to count with the participation of most prominent representatives of Functionalism at the highest International level. The clinical practice following the evidence based medicine (Evidence-Based-EBD) establishes protocols which are useful for the success of treatment. The control of the change of therapeutic posture is the goal of functional orthopaedics and it is necessary the knowledge of the posture position, of the movements and of important physiologic events such as rhythmic muscular control. Cases treated with functional appliances only, will show adapting cycles. Among other characteristics, the type of anchorage and of cephalometry used in functional orthopaedics only, represents the specific profile of the specialty. It will be possible the teaching of such a huge subject.

La pratica clinica strutturata su una corretta base scientifica (Evidence-Based-EBD) determina vie protocollari che offrono sostegno per la riuscita del trattamento. Il controllo del cambio di postura terapeutico è la identità della Ortopedia Funzionale ed esige conoscenze sulla posizione posturale, movimento ed una cascata di eventi fisiologici importanti come il controllo musculare pulsatile. Casi trattati solo con apparecchi funzionali mostreranno cicli di adattamento. Fra le altre caratteristiche, i tipi di ancoraggio e la cefalometria usati unicamente in Ortopedia Funzionale tracciano il profilo indiscutibile della specialità. L’ insegnamento di un tema tanto ampio sará possibile.
