Prevention is better than cure, as what the saying goes, the essence of the Nursing Service Program
focused on Breast self awareness and examination is to prevention and control of breast cancer in UAE,
particularly on the selected target group of this program. The program also aims to assess the knowledge and
effectiveness in breast self examination for early detection of breast cancer.
Objectives:
1. To assess the level of knowledge of nurses, technicians and doctors as well as the female cleaners
from our NCE company on BSE.
2. To determine the effectiveness of planned teaching program among the nurses, technicians and
doctors as well as the female cleaners from our NCE company on BSE.
3. To impart knowledge on breast self awareness and examination
4. To demonstrate proper breast self examination.
Content:
The program which will be done on two days will be composed of lecture and return demonstration
activities. The lecture will all be done on the first day and the return demonstrations will follow on the next
day. The program which will be gracefully organized by the Nursing Service department was approved by the
Continuous Medical Committee of 7 CME credit hours. The lectures and demonstrations will be presented by
the doctors and nurses of Dibba Hospital including the head of the OB GYNE department Dr. Shuhoob Taha as
the key speaker of the program.
The following are the topics to be presented in the said program:
1. What is cancer? An overview of the killer disease
2. An overview, what is breast cancer and what do we need to know about it?
3. All about laboratory work, how do we detect breast cancer?
4. How is breast cancer treated? Is there a cure? Let’s talk about the drugs.
5. Importance of early prevention and detection

6. What is Breast Self Examination and how is it done?
7. Prevention is better than cure, find ways to avoid cancer
8. Healthy lifestyle as part of cancer prevention
9. We care, cancer care for cancer patients and survivors
The second day of the program will be the return demonstration of the breast self examination and the
pink caravan bus will be coming over for a free check up and mammogram for the ladies eligible for the test,
the volunteer doctors and nurses of the Pink Caravan will be available to serve the participants from 8am to
3pm. They will be easily located just in front of the Etihad Auditorium of DIbba Hospital.
Target group
The target group of this program – Doctors, Nurses, Technicians and our NCE company cleaners and other
allied professionals interested
Planned activity
Day 1 – A program prepared which consists of different lectures will be given by the speakers
Day 2 – A demonstration and return demonstration and evaluation of BSE will be conducted as well as the
free check up and mammogram from our partner, the Pink Caravan will be conducted.
Methodology:
A pre-test and post test will be conducted among the participants from the different departments of Dibba
Hospital and other guest participants from other institution to evaluate effectiveness of the lectures presented
and to assess the level of understanding of the importance of the breast self examination as early prevention
and detection of breast cancer.

Participants
The Program will be organized by the Nursing Service department of Dibba hospital; the speakers
are doctors and nurses from Ministry of Health and a guest speaker from Dubai. The program is open
for nurses, doctors and other allied profession as well as the NCE Company cleaners assigned in the
different areas of Dibba Hospital.
Venue – Etithad Auditorium of Dibba Hospital
Date – Day 1 November 14, 2015 ( Lecture Day) Day 2 November 15, 2015 (Return Demo and free
check up day)
Funding Source -
o The Dibba Hospital will shoulder the venue of the event
o The Pink Caravan will bring their pink bus for free check up and mammogram on the 2nd day of
the program
o P&G has pledged to sponsor an amount of 5000 AED for the program
o Roche has pledged to sponsor an amount of 3000 AED for the proposed program
The program will be requiring the interested participants to pay the following amount:
o Doctors, Specialists, Consultants etc. – 35 AED
o Nurses, Technicians and other medical professions – 25 AED
o NCE Company Cleaners – Free of Charge
Length of Program – the program will be conducted in 2 days where in the participants can attend the
lecture on the first day and have do the return demonstration and free check up on the second day.
