Electrical Power Technology ASThis A.S. degree focuses on instrumentation and controls—thetechnology that keeps machines running safely and correctly. Studentsbuild the knowledge and skills needed in many fields, including powergeneration, aerospace, electrical or mechanical engineering, andhydraulic and pneumatic technology, which powers machinery usingfluids or compressed gases. Through intensive courses and hands-onlabs, you will be prepared to work in many dynamic settings: powerplants, wind farm control centers, solar power plants, smart grid andremote control systems operations, and helicopter, jet and rocketmanufacturers. Plus, through our industry contacts, we assist you inobtaining internships and employment. Graduates also may pursuePalm Beach State’s B.A.S. degree in Supervision and Management.

Machining TechnologyMachinists are at the core of manufacturing. These highly skilled, well-paid individuals produce precision machine parts for many industries,including aerospace, computer, medical device and automotive.

Students learn to set up and operate both manual and computer-controlled machining equipment inside one of the best machineshops in the state, using top-of-the-line Haas Automation CNC lathesand milling machines and Hexagon Metrology precision measuringequipment. By the time you graduate, you’ll be armed withknowledge and skills in computer-aided design/manufacturing(CAD/CAM), computer numerical control (CNC) programming, appliedmath and blueprint reading, manufacturing and inspection methods,measuring technology, and machining concepts and theories.

Residential & Commercial ElectricianGood electricians are always in demand. From wiring new homes tobringing older office buildings up to code, electricians have skillsneeded everywhere, for every type of structure.

Taught by licensed electricians, the program covers all aspects of theelectrical trade, from terminology and circuitry to the proper use oftools and more. In challenging projects, you’ll develop essential skillsin wiring installation and repair for residential and commercialproperties. Graduates pursue careers in electrical construction,maintenance, public utilities and contract work. This program also maybe a steppingstone to local electrician apprenticeship opportunities.

Trade ApprenticeshipsAn apprentice is an employed worker who learns a recognized tradewith the goal of becoming a qualified journeyperson.

In PBSC’s apprenticeship programs, you can achieve journeypersonstatus in 4–5 years, depending on the trade. Offered in partnershipwith private sector sponsors, the programs annually consist of 2,000hours of on-the-job training and 144 hours of classroom instruction.Students also earn multiple certifications related to their trade.Graduates receive a certificate from the Florida Department ofEducation, a PSAV certificate from Palm Beach State, and arerecognized worldwide as journeypersons.

Security & Automation Systems TechnicianGone are the days when security was a simple lock on the door, andturning on lights required flipping a switch. Now wireless buildingtechnologies control everything, driving the demand for technicianswho can maintain the high-tech systems that keep homes andbusinesses safe, energy efficient and easy to manage.

In this program, you’ll master the low-voltage electrical skills requiredto install and repair the latest smart technologies, including remoteaccess control systems, whole house audio and video, closed-circuittelevision, nurse call and fire alarms, intrusion detection systems, andturnkey gate automation. If you’re detail-oriented and like technology,prepare now to enter this fast-growing field.

Welding TechnologyThis nationally recognized program prepares you to work in afabrication or repair capacity in a variety of industries, such asagriculture, aviation, utilities, marine and many more.

You will train in modern facilities featuring individual booths andequipment for learning all major welding processes, including torchcutting, MIG/TIG, flux-cored arc, plasma arc and pipe welding.Taught by certified welding professionals, hands-on lab activitiesfocus on industry standards and fabrication techniques for weldingcarbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum metals. You will alsopractice for certification testing and learn blueprint reading, metalsidentification, and workplace safety and efficiency.

HVAC/RThe heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industry isin constant need of skilled technicians to support residential andcommercial clients.

Through real-world projects—including “on-the-job” experiences—you’ll achieve hands-on knowledge of HVAC/R operations, installationand repairs, troubleshooting, and key issues like safety and indoor airquality. The College’s lab gives you access to a wide range of up-to-date equipment, including residential split heating and coolingsystems, commercial water-cooled systems, ice machines,refrigerators and freezers.
