Renaissance Program Description

Kingsway Regional Middle School students are offered the opportunity to participate in our Renaissance

Program. Renaissance is a nationwide program that rewards students for academic excellence, good

attendance, and behavior. This program partners with local businesses, the community, and our parents

to recognize students and staff for hard work and effort in a variety of ways.

Mission

The mission of Kingsway Regional Middle School’s Renaissance Program is to foster a culture and

climate of excellence by recognizing individual student growth and achievement while building

partnerships with the community, parents, staff, and students.

Goals

The goals of this program are as follows: celebrate individual student growth and achievement, improve

school accountability (attendance, discipline, homework, and grades), build parent and community

involvement, increase school spirit and morale, and encourage service to others.

School Spirit & Community Service

To increase school spirit and morale and cultivate a culture of caring in our community, students are

encouraged to participate in school activities, clubs, a sport, or community service to be eligible for the

Renaissance Program. We want all of our students to participate! This is a requirement for the

Renaissance Program.

End of the Marking Period Event- All students in the Renaissance Program will be invited to

attend an on-campus celebration or field trip.

quiz exemption in math during the second marking period, they must choose a different course if

they qualify again.

Homework Exemption- Students may redeem one time per course. (same as the Quiz

Notes:

Renaissance Labels are issued to all eligible students. When received, students place label

on student identification (ID) cards.

If a student loses a Student ID (with the Renaissance Label), they may apply for a new Student

ID during lunch (ask a teacher on lunch duty). Unfortunately, it will be very difficult to keep

track of redeemed rewards (quiz and homework exemptions); therefore, new cards will be

exempt from receiving the label and thus the rewards.

Rewards earned in the 4th Marking Period will be recognized during the 1st Marking Period in

the succeeding year.

Students must turn application in during the three day window at the close of each marking

periods – late applications cannot be accepted.

Once Renaissance cards are issued, students have three days to request review of Renaissance

status if they did not receive a card. After the three day window, requests may not be honored.

KRMS Renaissance Program Triple G’s Plan

What is Triple G’s?

Triple G’s (“Get Good Grades”) is a program designed to provide recognition to students who

raise their grades into an acceptable range and maintain or continue to raise them from one grading

quarter to the next.

What are the goals of Triple G’s?

Teach students how to establish and reach their academic goals.

Recognize all students for their academic growth.

How does Triple G’s benefit students?

Students are empowered to participate in their own academic success, which builds self-

confidence, perseverance and character.

What are the criteria to participate in Triple G’s?

Students are invited to participate in the Triple G’s Program after receiving a D or F on their report

card.

Triple G’s Applications are in the form of a Goal Sheet and are made available to eligible

students at the beginning of each marking period. Example Goal: Increase D in math to a C by

the end of the 2nd marking period, while maintaining other current grades.

Qualification for Triple G’s rewards/incentives requires students to Qualification for Triple G’s

rewards/incentives requires students to improve one or more grades (D or below) by one letter

grade without allowing other successful grades (A thru C) drop below a C (74%).

Who monitors and sponsors the program?

At the beginning of each marking period, Kingsway Regional Middle School team leaders,

Renaissance advisors, and/or school counselors introduce the program to students during

homeroom.

o Participation in Triple G’s is voluntary for eligible students.

o Eligible students receive an invitation to join Triple G’s. Interested students must return

their application by the assigned deadline to be a member of the program.

o Triple G’s participants, counselors, and team leaders work together to select and monitor

an academic goal.

What can students earn each marking period?

Improved academic success!

Renaissance Program Initiatives

Community Partners

As part of Kingsway Middle School’s Renaissance initiative, local businesses are encouraged to offer

support with sponsorship of the program. It is with their support and donations that we can provide this

program to students.

Dragon Deeds

Faculty and staff who witness good deeds and random acts of kindness at any time during the school day

can recognize a student with a dragon deed raffle ticket. Dragon Deeds aim to encourage respect and

acceptance of all students as #1DragonFamily and provide recognition opportunities for all of our

students. Dragon Deeds raffles occur approximately every three weeks and include prizes ranging from

take-out lunch, to KRMS coupon books, to gift cards.

Dragon of the Month

One teacher is nominated each month, awarded a certificate, and recognized at the monthly faculty

meetings.

People’s Choice Awards

Annual event highlighting students demonstrating any of the six pillars of character (trustworthiness,

respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship). Teachers, paraprofessionals, staff, and

administrators may select students who positively impact the school and/or classroom

environment. Students are not made aware of the staff member who nominated them until the night of

the event.

Perfect Attendance

As a district, we promote the importance of student attendance because students who attend school

regularly learn more and are more successful in school than those who do not. Each marking period,

students who have perfect attendance receive special prizes. Perfect attendance recognition is extended

only to students who are in school bell to bell every day of the marking period. Although excused

absences do not affect Renaissance qualification, they do impact perfect attendance. For example, if a

student misses a period of school for a doctor’s appointment, this is not perfect attendance.

Spotlight Students

Teachers nominate students who demonstrate character based on the following six pillars of character:

trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Students are rewarded and

recognized at our monthly Board of Education meetings.

Teacher Appreciation Week

This is a special weeklong event celebrating our teachers! We want to thank them for their dedication

and hard work by showing our support with different surprises every day.
