WELCOMEWELCOME

WELCOME TO CAMPWEST 2021 – SURVIVE THE UNKNOWN!

You’re joining more than 750 Cub Scouts, Scouts and Girl Guides on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Plus, we’ve got a huge 60 Venturer Scouts joining us, and 120 adults who will be supporting you throughout your Campwest experience.

As our theme suggests, this Campwest will be different! It’s the first major Scout Section event in Western Australia to fully embrace the new program, and we’ll be expanding across parts of Manjedal Activity Centre that many people didn’t know existed!

You’ll have the chance to embrace all that Scouting has to offer. Everyone will visit Dwellingup to paddle the Murray River and zip between the treetops – we’ve even thrown in a sneaky visit to the Perth Aqua Park! Patrols will enjoy a selection of water activities at Waylen Bay and explore Perth Zoo. Then there’s the onslaught of onsite activities, with vertical challenges, mountain biking, target sports and a STEM zone. Plus, evening entertainment – movies, discos and chill zones – each and every night. This all culminates with a huge trip to Adventure World on Friday 16 April, when we’ll send 25 busloads of Scouting people down the hill for a final day of fun.

The entire program has been put together by our Design Squad – a group of Scouts WA youth members from across Western Australia!

Thanks for joining us on this adventure to ‘Survive the Unknown’!

Yours in Scouting, Campwest Event Team

UNIT COUNCIL

Every Unit is strongly encouraged to have a Unit Council every day at Campwest. It doesn’t have to be a long meeting – it could be a 10-minute chat before the Unit Leader and Patrol Leaders head to bed.

Set a routine early at Campwest and stick to it for the entire event.

UNIT LEADER MEETINGS

Nightly Unit Leader meetings will be held at Two Gum Oval at 7.00pm, just before the evening entertainment starts. For the Unit Leaders camping in the Aganoa Village, you’ll be able to catch a lift to Two Gum Oval in a golf buggy. The buggies will depart Aganoa Village Hub at 6.45pm.

If your Unit Leader can’t make it one night, nominate a Patrol Leader to attend instead.

PATROL LEADER RECEPTION

All Patrol Leaders and Unit Leaders are invited along to a special breakfast on Market Day at 8.00am. The breakfast will be held at Gilwell near the Open Air Cinema.

Enjoy some tasty treats and relax with the other young leaders from across Campwest.

BRANCH SCOUT COUNCIL

Come and have your say at the Branch Scout Council on Market Day at 4.30pm. Connect with Scouts from around Western Australia, get info on upcoming events and have your say on Scouting in WA!

The gathering will be held at Gilwell near the Open Air Cinema.

FEELING SAFE AT EVENTSFEELING SAFE AT EVENTS

Bullying:

Bullying is not okay, even if you are not involved and it is never the fault of the person being bullied.

You can play a part in stopping it by:

• Refusing to join in the bullying if you are a witness

• Telling a responsible adult such as your Leader• Always have a buddy and stick with that

person so that you can look out for each other

Being bullied may happen to you from anyone including youth members or adults and could include things like:

• Being called names• Being teased• Having your property taken• Being hit, pushed, pulled, pinched or kicked• Being ignored or left out• Being attacked or abused because of your

religion, gender, sexuality, disability or appearance

Feeling Safe:

You have the right to feel safe at all times. Trust your instincts - if you have a ‘funny feeling’ about someone or something, don’t ignore it. Act on it and tell a responsible adult.

Being made to feel unsafe may happen to you and could come from anyone including youth members or adults and could include things like:

• Physical force like hitting or shoving• Threats• Teasing• Humiliating words or actions• Unwanted touching• Sexual behaviour

Tell Someone:

Telling someone about how you may be feeling unsafe will not only help, it can also protect others. Tell an adult straight away if you experience anything that makes you feel unsafe or unsure. If you report anything to a responsible adult, you will not get into any trouble and the report will be kept as confidential as possible with only those who need to know being informed.
