Australia and Vietnam share many common challenges when it comes to safe, secure, efficient and sustainable water management. We are both experiencing new climate extremes featuring record droughts, floods and temperatures. Through these challenges, our water industries must develop greater resilience, flexibility and capabilities and strengthen a culture of innovation and collaboration.

Vietwater 2015 marked the start of the AWA - DFAT program to connect the Australian and Vietnamese water sectors which saw the largest Australian delegation to ever travel to Vietnam including over 60 water professionals from the private sector, government, R&D and water utilities in attendance. Building from the momentum established at Vietwater 2015 will see the largest Vietnamese water delegation to ever travel to Australia for Ozwater’16 (60 delegates). The Australian delegation to Vietwater’16 will continue this momentum to build collaborative relationships and strengthen trade and investment, by helping to improve the business climate and expand the scope of business opportunities for mutual benefit.

Delegates participating in the Australian mission to Vietwater will be involved in a series of tailored events designed to connect you with the right people across the Vietnam water sector. You will have your own space in the Australian booth, meet with water leaders, NGO’s, donor agencies, private sector companies and water utilities in a series of workshops, business meetings, site tours and social events.

We are proud to extend the invitation to individuals and organisations to participate in the Australian delegation to Vietwater 2016 to showcase your water capabilities and technological innovations.

We look forward to meeting you at Vietwater 2016.

Invitations from the CEO of the Australian Water Association & the Australian Ambassador to Vietnam

Craig Chittick The Australian

Ambassador to Vietnam

Jonathan McKeown Chief Executive Australian

Water Association

The Australian Government has played an active role in assisting Vietnam’s water sector since 1993. Through working in partnership with the Government of Vietnam we have accomplished the significant achievement of providing water to 85 per cent of the rural population. This equates to an additional 7.5 million people now having direct access to clean water in their homes.

The Government of Vietnam is committed to transform the water sector so that all people have access to clean water in their homes. To support this commitment Australia is now working with Vietnam to increase private sector engagement and delivery of clean water and sanitation services. There is a demonstrated demand for Australia’s expertise in water supply and demand planning, water quality, water asset management, network operation, climate change adaptation, and governance and regulation. The Australian water sector has a lot it can offer to Vietnam.

Vietwater’16 will be a valuable opportunity to showcase Australia’s capabilities, technical know-how and innovations. The exhibition will serve as a platform for increased business opportunities for Australia and Vietnam.

I look forward to welcoming you at Vietwater’16.

Vietwater’16 is the largest water exhibition in Vietnam attracting over 10,000 delegates from across the world. The Australian Water Association, in partnership with DFAT, ANZ Bank and the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association have put together a program designed to connect Australian Expertise and technical innovation with the demand for this in Vietnam.

The Australian program at Vietwater is your chance to meet with Vietnam’s water leaders including CEOs of water utilities, Ministers and senior government officials, NGO’s, private sector organisations and peak water associations through workshops, site tours, business introductions and social events. Please register your interest with An Nguyen, AWA International Coordinator at: [email protected]

GroWING opportuNItIes IN VIetNAM’s WAter seCtor

Since the early 2000s, Vietnam has opened its economy to international markets. In July 2006, Vietnam updated its intellectual property legislation to comply with world standards, and it became a member of the WTO on 11 January 2007. Vietnam is now one of Asia’s most open economies and is one of Australia’s key trading partners.

Vietnam has been rising as a leading agricultural and industrial exporter and an attractive foreign investment destination. Accordingly, the government has set ambitious targets for urban, industrial and rural growth. In Ho Chi Minh City, there are among 310 industrial zones that have been earmarked for 100% centralised water and wastewater systems. Moreover, Ho Chi Minh City is the country’s biggest consumer market and it provides a contingent of skilled and dynamic workforce and well-developed commodity distribution system.

In Hanoi, there are 107 industrial zones that have been earmarked for 100% centralised water and wastewater systems.
