ANALYSIS OF A PLAY: PLOT: A BRIEF SYNOPSIS

Exposition
Bondying, Ning Ning, Kiko, and
Bodyok are playing while waiting
for Mr. Tuko. They act like a
basketball player and imagining
that the audience reaction will be
the same as Mr Tuko.
Rising Action
Mr Tuko enter the class and stop
the plays. He started to do
cleanliness inspection such as the
pupil’s hands and their hygiene. He
started the day by implement the
patriotism in the pupils. He started
his lessons on literature, history,
health and science. He asked
Bondying to take the mirror for the
Health and Science lessons.
Climax
While Mr Tuko was writing on the
blackboard and asking pupils to copy
and memorizing the word, Bondying
accidentally drop the antique mirror.
To prevent Bondying from getting
punished , Kiko, Bodyok, and Ning Ning
try to help him by pulling a prank on Mr
Tuko. When Mr Tuko asked the where
about of Bondying, Bodyok, Kiko, and
Ning Ning were trying to fool him by
saying Bondying was holding the
mirror in the class. However the truth was,
Bondying was actually outside the class.
They convince Mr Tuko that something was
wrong with his eye glasses and this was why
he could not see Bondying. Bondying sneak
in with the mirror while Mr Tuko was taking
off his eyeglasses. Mr Tuko realized
something was strange with the mirror and
started cleaning it while Bondying mime and
mimic his movement on the other side.
Mr Tuko then lose his balance and
collapsed all the way through the
mirror. The took Mr Tuko’s
eyeglasses, played around and
hide under the curtains so that Mr
Tuko would not be able to find
them.
Falling action
Mr Tuko found them and punished
them. When the students kept quiet
and not making any movement, he
realized he probably have
overdone it. He was so scared that
the students would report him to
the PTA. He poured out all his
problems and hoped to get
understanding from the students.
Resolution
All of the students and Mr Tuko
agreed on overhauling his system
slowly. Then, they proceeded to
their next lesson.
• Rude
- He constantly labels his students ‘Idiot’ rather than encouraging
them to do more learning.
- Before he starts his lesson one particular day, he wanted his
students to write something in their notebook. Unfortunately,
Bodyok don’t have one and he voiced it out. Mr. Tuko got mad
and shouted him the word ‘idiot’ after saying that a student that
didn’t bring a pencil to school is like a soldier going to a battle
without a gun. It happened when Bodyok did not understand
what Mr. Tuko had said.
Bodyok : Sir, I don’t have a pencil.
Mr. Tuko : You don’t have a pencil! You are like a soldier soing tobattle without a gun!
Bodyok : But I have a gun sir! (brings out toy gun.) bang-bang-bang!
Mr.Tuko : Idiot! What I mean is you should bring your pencileveryday. Who has an extra pencil?
• He loves his country until his students had memorized what he is going to say every time before he starts his lesson.
Mr. Tuko : Thank you. Now, I love my country…..
Pupils : (with action) I love my country. Philippines, my Philippines. Pearl of the Orient. Paradise of the East.
• The spirit of patriotism
- He was carried away by his nationalist feelings when he talk about his country.
Mr Tuko : I must have been carried away again by my nationalist feelings. You see class, whenever I speak about our country, I lost my sense of time.
• Supportive
She gives help to her friends when they need it. For example,
when Bondying accidentally broke the mirror, NingNing asked her
friends to stop blaming Bondying and tried to help him.
Kiko: Our teacher will kill you.
Bondying: Maaaammmmmaaaaa…
NingNing: Oh, please, lets not blame him anymore. Let’s help
him. Is there anything we can do?
• Timid (lack of courage and self confidence)
Bondying was invited to play basketball by his friends but hisscared of the audience. He was insecure and being paranoidwith the audience’s laughter. He thought they were making fun ofhim. So, he refused to play with them.
Bondying : Why are they laughing?
Bondying : I must have said something wrong. I think they’re makingfun of me.
Bondying : I’ll stay here. I’m shy.
• Slow learner
He was hard to remember the lesson that have been taught. it was hard for him to remember even the simplest thing (his name) until he was
asked to write his name one thousand times.
Bondying : maaammmmaaa! Sir, I beg you, please…… I already finished three long pencils writing thousands and thousands names.
• Outspoken
- He dares to describe Mr. Tuko as a skinny, dark man who looks like a corpse.
Bodyok : Hey, you’re all here. Have you been there long? Has ourteacher arrived yet? That skinny, dark man who looks like a corpse? Aha, he’s not yet here. Good, there’s plenty of time to play!
• Clever
• She had questioned Mr. Tuko about the history as it was not like what she had read in another book. This proves Kiko is an advance student compared to the others.
Kiko : E, sir, I read a history book. And according to the book, the events did not happen the way you told us.
