GENERAL REGULATIONS

SCCA PROFESSIONAL RACING SERIES

The following G eneral Regulations apply to all SCCA-Sanctioned Professional Racing Series.

These events a re conducted under the FIA In ternational Sporting Code (events having an FIA listing), th e SCCA G énérai C om petition Rules (GCR), these G eneral Regulations and the Professional Racing Regulations for the individual racing series, unless otherw ise specif­ied.

1- ADMINISTRATOR AND SANCTIONING AUTHORITY

The Sports C ar Club of A m erica, Inc. (SCCA) Professional Racing D epartm ent ad m in istra tes all SCCA Professional R ac­ing Series and sanctions those even ts within the United S ta tes. Events heid outside of the United S ta tes a re sanctioned by the ASN (N ationai Sporting A uthority) of the country in which the event takes place.

In the event of doubt or am biguity as to th e wording and/or in ten t of th e regulations for Professional Racing Series, the decisions of the SCCA Professional Racing D epartm ent shall prevail and will be binding excep t as provided for under the SCCA GCR. An SCCA Professional Racing D epartm ent repres­en ta tiv e shail be p resen t a t any o ffic ia l m eeting or hearing involving Series regulations. The SCCA PROFESSIONAL RAC­ING STAFF (Series Chief Stew ard, Technical A dm inistrator, Manager of Pro Racing, e tc .) shall have exclusive contro l of all ac tiv ities regarding the operation of any SCCA Professional events. The SCCA Professional Racing S taff reserves the right to am end and/or add to these rules as may be deem ed necessary by them .

2. DRIVER

A. Licenses

1) Each driver in the Can-A m , Trans-Am and Super Vee Series m ust possess a valid FIA D river's L icense.

2) Each driver in the R abbit/B ilstein Series m ust possess e ith er a vaiid SCCA N ational or SCCA Professional License.

3) AU drivers issued an FIA License by a Foreign ASN or U.S. drivers racing outside of th e U nited S ta tes m ust possess a le t te r of au thority from th e ir ASN giving perm ission to race and also m ust possess an In te r­national Medical C ard (Available from th e ir ASN).

*) D rivers m ust presen t th e ir license upon request by the reg is tra r or o ther authorized offic ia ls of the even t.

B. D rivers EquipmentEach driver m ust w ear th e following equipm ent:

0 A sa fe ty helm et which has the 1975 or la te r Snell Foundation decal of approval; the back of each driver's he lm et m ust be labeled indicating nam e, d a te of b irth , blood type, a llerg ies and o th er pertin en t m edical his­tory i.e. te tan u s im m unization, d iabetes, e tc .NOTE: 1980 Snell Foundation approval will be required e ffe c tiv e l / i /8 6 .

2) A face shield or goggles and nomex hood m ust be worn by drivers of open cockpit ca rs; a face shield o r goggles is recom m ended for drivers of closed cars.

Hair protruding from beneath a drivers helm et m ust be com pletely covered by fire re s is tan t m aterial.

3) One piece driving su it, m ade of fire re s is tan t m aterial accep ted by SCCA, or hom ologated by FISA, which effe c tiv e ly covers th e body including neck, ankles and w rists; m ulti-layer suits a re recom m ended. F ire resis­ta n t underw ear is required with single layer and double layer su its. But is not required with 3 or m ore layer driving suits.

9) Socks m ade of fire re s is tan t m ateria l and shoes and gloves m ade of lea ther or an approved f ire -re s is ta n t m ateria l.

ENTRANTS

A. Licenses

1) In all even ts which have an FIA In ternational listing, each e n tra n t m ust possess a valid FIA E ntran t L icense issued by his ASN. Can-Am and Trans-Am series a re both FIA listed.

2) The en try form th a t you sign for every even t contains a com m itm ent on your p a rt. "The en tran t c e r tifie s th a t he has studied th e SCCA G énérai Com petition Rules, Professional Racing Rules and the Supplem entary Regulations for th is even t and agrees to abide by these rules and regulations. E n tran t fu rth er agrees to ensure th a t the d river and th e crew m em bers a re sim ilarly aquainted with these rules." The en tran t is responsible for the actions of his driver(s), crew and guests.

“I. VEHK3.E IDENTmCATlON NUMBERS AND NAMES

Numbers m ust be legible to and approved by tim ing and scoring officials.

The driver's nam e m ust appear on each side of the car or may be on each side of th e roof just above the side windows on closed cars.

A. All vehicles com peting in SCCA Professional Racing Series m ust be reg istered with the SCCA and identified by regis­te red serial num bers.

B. Identification num bers a t least e ight (8) inches high w ith a minimum stroke of 114 inches m ust be carried on both sides and th e fro n t of the vehicle. The color of the number must provide a strong co n tra s t w ith the background color of the c a r , excep t th e Trans-Am Series which has its own special requirem ents.

5. ADVERTISEMENT AND SERIES SYMBOLS

A dvertising and symbols displayed on th e car m ust be in good ta s te and not in te rfe re w ith iden tifica tion num bers. Emblems of conflicting se ries and events, m ust be rem oved from all cars.

The SCCA Decal and Series Sponsor Decal m ust be prom inently displayed on each car as specified by Series O fficials. Failure to comply will resu lt in loss of prize money and points.

6. TECHNICAL AND SAFETY INSPECTION

A. Before en tering the course, all cars will be checked for eligibility and com pliance with the sa fe ty and techn ical regulations for the Series. This inspection does not guar­an tee th e legality of the c a r . C ars considered to be of unsafe construction or not complying with SCCA R egula t­ions may be sum m arily re jec ted .

B. To exped ite th is inspection, ail ca rs com peting in SCCA Sanctioned even ts m ust be reg istered with th e Professional Racing D epartm ent and have a Vehicle Log Book, e ith er Club Racing or Pro Racing, which m ust be presented a t Technical Inspection.

C. The en tra n t shall be responsible for perform ing the dis­assem bly, reassem bly and resulting expense for any inspec­tion to confirm car eligibility ordered by the Series Chief Steward and/or th e Series Technical A dm inistrator.

D. The SCCA Pro Racing Technical M anager and th e Series T echnical A dm inistators a re th e suprem e au thority in en­forcing these rules. They have the au thority under these regulations to am end and/or add to the rules, and to make ad justm ents to ca r specifications on the spot if deem ed necessary.

FUEL

Any grade of au tom otive or aviation gasoline not containing any alcohols, n itro compounds or o th er power boosting additives. GaOTline may con tain anti-ox idan ts, m etal de-ac tiv a to rs , cor­rosion inhibitors, lead alkyl compounds such as te tra -e th y l lead and o th er an ti-d e to n an t additives. Fuel will be checked di- ®^®t:trically (with a to le ran ce of 1%) for oxygen or nitrogen bearing additives. The injection of w ater or any oxygen or n itrogen bearing substances into th e intake system is pro­hibited.

*• q u a l if y in g a n d s t a r t in g POSITIONS

A. Qualifying

1) Each driver will qualify for a s ta rtin g position during th e qualifying sessions. It shall be the ca r/d riv e r com ­bination which qualifies for a s ta rtin g position. Each car shall be considered offic ially qualified only if the qualifying tim e is achieved by th e driver nom inated to drive the ca r.

Cars which a re gridded w ithout the driver having a qualifying tim e shall be s ta rte d from the rea r of the grid. All such cars shall be gridded in an o rder de­term ined by th e Series C hief Stew ard.

2) Ties in qualifying tim es shall be resolved by taking the average o f each driver's th ree (3) fa s te s t tim es posted during the qualifying sessions; then , if necessary , the average of each driver's four (<t) fa s te s t tim es and so on until the tie is broken w ith the fa s te s t ca r being positioned to the front of the grid.

3) To qualify for the sta rtin g grid, th e ca r/d riv er com ­bination m ust achieve a tim e not slower than 110-115% of th e average tim e for the fa s te s t th ree (3) qualifiers. In Can-Am, the tim e of th e fa s te s t U2L car wiil be included in order to ca lcu la te th e cu t off for U2L cars. This ruie may be waived a t th e d iscretion of the Series Chief S tew ard w here he believes a car/d riv er com­bination wouid be com petitive.

't) One D river/Tw o C ar E ntries; In the case of one driver being en te red in two cars , the foiiowing shail appiy:

a) The driver wili be ailowed to p rac tice and qualify both ca rs provided the back-up car is so designated by a supplem entary marking, and the Series Chief S tew ard and tim ing/scoring a re notified before the backup car is used.

b) If a driver quaiifies tw o cars , he m ust notify the Series Chief Steward within one-haif hour a f te r the ciose of the final qualifying session as to which car he will drive in the race .

c) Upon n o tifica tion , th e Series Chief Steward wiii have the s ta rtin g grid prepared reflec tin g the de­cisions of those drivers so invoived.

d) If the ca r which the driver se iected to race is, for some reason, unabie to s ta r t , the driver will be allowed to s ta r t from th e back of th e grid with his back-up car.

NOTE; The Series Chief Steward may modify the quaiifying scheduie/procedure if deem ed necessary.

5) One Car/Tw o D river E ntries;

a) Each driver MUST have his nam e on his helm et as well as on the car in th e place designated.

b) The Pro Racing line s ta ff m ust be inform ed of the in tention to sw itch drivers before the beginning of a session so th a t the Series Chief Steward and Tim ing/Scoring can be notified .

c) The ^ r i e s Chief S tew ard m ust be notified within one-haif hour a f te r the close of the final qualifying session as to which driver will drive the car.

d) Failure to carry out the above procedure will void aH qualifying tim es for the car.

6) Any dispute or aileged inaccuracies in qualifying or grid positions shail be handled by the Series C hief Stew ard.

7) The Series Chief Stew ard, in conjunction with the Professional Racing D epartm ent S ta ff, may a lte r the qualifying procedures a t the ir discretion . A lte rn a te qualifying procedures may be, but a re not lim ited to:a) One car a t a tim e; warm up lap, tw o tim ed lapsb) Dividing the ca rs into groups, each group using a

portion of the scheduled qualifying periodc) The d eta ils of these or o ther a lte rn a te qualifying

procedures will be outlined a t a drivers m eeting. No prior no tice of th is change is required.

B.S tarting Position

1) C ar/d riv er com binations will be positioned on th e s ta r t ­ing grid in th e o rder of th e ir qualifying tim es with the fa s te s t com bination to th e fro n t. The fa s te s t com ­bination shall have th e righ t to se lec t th e pole position, e ith e r le f t or right of the course, such se lection being m ade known by him to the Series Chief S tew ard no m ore than one hour a f te r th e initia l posting of final qualifying resu lts . A fter final publication of the s ta r t ­ing grid, th e p laces of n o n -sta rte rs will be le f t em pty. The o th er com petito rs retain ing th e ir published pos­itions on the grid until th e fall of th e s ta rtin g flag.

2) The maximum num ber of c a rs to be s ta r te d is included in th e inform ation concerning each even t. The ac tu a l num ber of ca rs allowed to s ta r t th e even t shall be a t the d iscretion of th e Series C hief S tew ard. The Series C hief S tew ard, may, in the even t of an unfilled grid, add to th e rea r of the s ta rtin g grid ca rs which w ere unable to qualify during th e qualifying sessions.

3) At th e request of the O rganizer, the Series C hief Stew­ard may increase the num ber of s ta r te r s up to 10% by s ta rtin g them a t the rea r of the grid, when a com ­p e tito r, for good cause, was unable to qualify.

4) The Series C hief S tew ard and th e O rganizer may des­ignate one or m ore a lte rn a te s ta rte rs . These shall be th e next fa s te s t ca r/d riv er com binations a f te r the last qualifie r. A lternates a re to be s ta tioned a t th e ir pit ready to go. They shall move to the ex it of the p it lane onto the tra c k and will aw ait the s ta r t of th e pace lap. If the Series Chief Stew ard determ ines th a t a qualified s ta r te r will not s ta r t , he will perm it the a lternate(s) to join the field . Once an a lte rn a te has le f t the pit lane, the n on-starting qualifier may not join the field and e n te r th e race .

9. RULES OF THE PITS AND COURSE

A. All personnel In the a rea betw een th e p it rail and th e track rail m ust be adequately a ttire d (shoes, long pants and sleeved shirts) a t all tim es during p rac tice , qualifying, and the race . Crew m em bers working in the pit lane or in th e designated signaling a rea m ust be uniform ly a ttire d (m at­ching pants and m atching shirts) a t all tim es.

B, Push s ta r ts prior to the s ta r t and during th e race areperm itted if they do not c re a te a hazard to e ith er the carbeing pushed or to the personnel pushing the car.

NOTE; This does not change the requ irem ent th a t all cars m ust be equipped w ith an on-board s ta r te r and b a tte ry which m ust be in working order a t all tim es.

C. Auxiliary power (b a tte ry assist) may be used a t any tim e excep t during refueling.

D. The s ta r te r will not be used as a m eans of propulsion, e ith e r on the course or in the pits.

E. Service Stops

1) When a ca r stops a t its p it a t any tim e , no m ore than five (5) people in addition to the driver shall be in th e working p it a rea to a tten d to the ca r. Only four (4) people a re perm itted to work on the ca r, the fifth may d irec t operations and signal the driver in and ou t, but cannot provide physical assistance. If the driver or any person behind the p it wall renders such assistance, he shall be counted as one of th e four.

2) In addition to the personnel authorized above, fire extinguisher personnel and a serv ice company rep resen ­ta tiv e exam ining a car's com ponents or equipm ent are perm itted in th e working p it a rea , but shall not render physical assistance.

3) A maximum of two (2) people per car will be perm itted trackside (in a designated location) for the purpose of signaling during p rac tice , qualifying and racing. P er­sonnel crossing the pit lane m ust be kept to a minimum.

4) 3acks and booster b a tte rie s m ust be in a safe position against the p it wall or rail when in the servicing p it. Tool boxes and all o th er equipm ent m ust be behind the pit wall excep t when actually in use.

F. Refueling

1) Each en tra n t m ust make his own arrangem ents for handling gasoline, w ater and oil in his p it. Spillage and /or care less handling of fuel, w ater or oil will not be to le ra te d and may resu lt in a fine or o th er penalty being assessed. It is the responsibility of the crew to clean up any fuel, w ater or oil spills onto the pit space or p it lane as soon as possible.

2) Fuel con tainers and w heels /tires may be placed over the pit wall Into the servicing p it during the lap prior to th e car 's a rriva l and m ust be stow ed behind the pit wail im m ediately a f te r the car 's departu re .

3) During refuelinga. The driver is not required to be out of the car.b. No one shall be under th e car.c . E ither a crew m em ber or a pit m arshall m ust be

s ta tioned a t th e car w ith a fire extinguisherd. When refueling during p rac tice or qualifying, the

engine m ust be shut o ff, excep t for a Can-Am prac tice fuel stop, and booster b a tte r ie s dis­connected .

4) The Can-Am series is the only SCCA Professional race series in which refueling is perm itted during a race . Refueling requ irem ents for th a t series a re specified in the series regulations.

5) The driver and crew a re responsibie for seeing th a t ail refueling and serv ice equipm ent is c lea r of th e car before it is dispatched from its position in th e p its. Failure to comply w ith this rule will resu lt in a fine or o th er penalty being assessed.

6) C ars shall only be refueled in the p its. Addition of fuel on the race track prior to the s ta r t or a t any tim e is prohibited.

G. The en tra n t shall provide a f ire extinguisher in his p its a t all tim es. It m ust be in su ffic ien t working order and of adequate capac ity and type to com bat a gasoline fire . The extinguisher is in addition to th a t which m ust be ca rried in the car and in addition to th a t supplied by the O rganizer.

H. The driver only may repair the ca r on the course. He may walk to and from the p its to obtain p a rts and equipm ent, but m ust not receive any physical assistance.

I. The driver shall no t push his ca r while on the course. Theofficials may move or assist a driver to move a disabled c a r to a safe a rea w ithout penalty to th a t ca r, and th e car may continue in the com petition if it is able.

3. The Series Chief S tew ard may order any car rem oved from the course which, in his judgem ent, co n stitu tes a hazard to o ther com petito rs because of insufficient speed, fluid spill­age, or any o th er reason.

K. C ars rem oved to the paddock a rea from th e course or thep its shall be ineligible to re tu rn to the com petition in progress, excep t as noted in 9.N.

L. All m ajor body com ponents should be m aintained in normalpositions throughout the com petition . In the event th a t loss of bodywork is a sa fe ty hazard , the ca r may be black- flagged. C ars com peting in a race w ith bodywork missing may be penalized if the loss is a perform ance advantage.

M. The addition of engine or transm ission lubricants during thecom petition is prohibited, excep t as provided for in the supplem entary regulations for the even t.

N. No tool which may cause sparks or a high tem p era tu re willbe allowed in fron t of or inside the pits.

If an en tra n t desires to perform work on th e ca r which would cause sparks or a high tem p era tu re , he may request specific perm ission from th e Series Chief Steward to rem ove the ca r to the rea r of the p its for th a t purpose only and then m ust be accom panied a t all tim es by the Pit M arshal.

O. Penalties for infraction of the rules shall be a t thediscretion of th e Series Chief Steward and/or th e Stew ards of the M eeting as provided for in the GCR and these regulations.

P. A sa fe ty ca r will e n te r the c ircu it when Its use for reasonsof sa fe ty is deem ed necessary by the Series Chief Stew ard. The driver of th e sa fe ty ca r shall be licensed by th e SCCA Professional Racing D epartm ent as a sa fe ty ca r driver or possess a valid FIA Driver License (G rade A, B, or C). The passenger shall be a knowledgeable senior race o ffic ia l, p referably with race driving experience. The passenger shall be equipped with a radio for two-way com m unications w ith th e Series Chief Stew ard. The sa fe ty ca r shall be equipped with flashing yellow lights or yellow flag(s). The sa fe ty ca r will e n te r the circu it im m ediately preceding the leading car; should it fail to do so, cars following it will be waved by one a t a tim e until the ca r leading the race in firs t overall place is im m ediately behind the sa fe ty car.

The leading car and those behind it shall not pass the sa fe ty ca r excep t as above. Doing so. will re su lt in an au tom atic one lap penalty . The sa fe ty ca r will rem ain on th e c ircu it as long as is deem ed necessary by th e Series Chief Stew ard, and will rem ain under his con tro l a t all tim es. On th e lap preceding the re s ta r t , th e sa fe ty ca r will extinguish its yellow lights and/or w ithdraw its yellow flag(s), to advise the drivers of its im m inent w ithdraw al from th e c ircu it. The sa fe ty car will pull o ff to the side preceding the display of the green flag a t the s ta rt/f in ish line. There will be no passing by co n tes tan ts until the s ta r te r has displayed the green flag.

Q. PIT ASSIGNMENTAll p it spaces a re "claim ed" on a firs t com e, firs t served basis. To stak e a "claim ", display a board with your num ber, on the p it lane side of the pit wall or pit rail, to ind icate your p it location. Display of a num ber board in th is m anner is a valid m eans of "staking claim " to th a t particu lar pit space as well as assisting th e Pro Racing S taff working the p it lane. D isputes will be se ttled by the Series C hief Stew ard.

R. If m ore than 50% of the c a rs on the s ta rtin g grid a re on rain tire s , th e Series C hief S tew ard will d eclare i t a w et race and drivers intending to s ta r t on dry tire s may be prohibited from doing so or may be black-flagged if deem ­ed too hazardous for th e conditions.If the race s ta r ts as a w et race , changes to dry tire s will be a t the d riv e r/en tran t discretion . If rain falls during a dry race , th e Series C hief S tew ard may stop the race , a t his d iscretion , for reasons of sa fe ty or to perm it everyone to change to w et tire s .

10. RESULTS

The provisional resu lts will be published as soon as possible a f te r th e com pletion of qualifying or a com petition .

11. SCORING

race will end officially when th e overall leader crosses the finish line for the f irs t tim e a f te r the exp iration of th e tim e /d istan ce specified for the com petition . Finishing positions will be determ ined according to the num ber of laps com pleted regardless of w hether th e car is running a t the finish. C ars com pleting the sam e num ber of laps will be ranked according to th e tim e taken to com plete those laps.

12. PENALTIES

Tim e, disqualification , loss of points, loss of prize money, additional fines up to $2,000 and suspension from com petition , e tc . shall be a t the d iscretion of the Series Chief Steward or th e SOM as provided by th e SCCA Professionai Racing R eg­ulations. O ther penalties as provided for by the G .C.R . may be imposed under this au thority . Such penalties may be p ro tested or appealed as provided for below.

13. PROTESTS

P ro tests may be lodged only by an en tran t or a driver. They m ust be subm itted in w riting to the Stewards of the M eeting (SOM), accom panied by a p ro test fee of $100 m ade payable to the SCCA within the tim e lim its specified in the GCR or the FIA/FISA International Sporting Code, if an FIA listed even t.

14. APPEALS

W ritten notice of intention to appeal must be given to the Chairm an of the SOM within one hour of announcem ent of the decision of the SOM. A w ritten notice of appeal signed by the appellant specifying the grounds for appeal and including an appeal fee of $200 shall be received by th e SCCA Manager of Professional Racing within ten (10) days a f te r the announce­m ent of the SOM decision. An appeal may be withdrawn w ithout penalty only with the approval of the Manager of Professional Racing. Appeals will be heard by the SCCA Professional Racing Standing C ourt of Appeals.

15. AWARDS

Prize money will be aw arded according to the schedule publish­ed with the tim e tab le and p ertinen t inform ation for each individual event in the Series. Awards o ther than m onetary will be presented to the en tra n t or his duly authorized rep re sen t­ativ e a t the c ircu it. M onetary aw ards will be m ailed from SCCA's National H eadquarters providing the resu lts are not under appeal, on th e Wednesday a f te r the com pletion of the even t. In order to fa c ilita te prom pt dispensing of prize money checks, the en try form m ust be filled out in full and a com pleted U.S. Governm ent form number 3435 must be on file with the SCCA accounting d epartm en t. MISSING INFORMA­TION WILL RESULT IN A DELAY OF PRIZE MONEY CHECKS. Qualifying money will be paid on the basis of the fastes t car/d riv er com bination recorded during official qualifications, not s ta rtin g grid positions, excep t in the Trans-Am Series.

16. INSURANCE

Events sanctioned by the SCCA a re insured under th e SCCA M aster Insurance Program or equivalent. 17. BAD CHECKS AND OUTSTANDING DEBTS WILL RESULT IN:

Suspension of com petition privileges until debt and service charges a re paid. (Service charge will be $50 to cover bank processing and SCCA clerica l processing.)

18. MUFFLERS

It is possible th a t ce rta in race circu its may requ ire m ufflers on racing cars . If this happens, you will be advised of details.

19. STARTER

A Series S ta rte r and Tim ing/Scoring A dm inistrators may be provided by SCCA to ensure th e Series con tinuity and m aintain provisions of th e GCR and Professional Racing Regulations. They may have a p lurality of duties and shall repo rt to the Series Chief Stew ard.

Should the s ta r t be aborted by th e S ta r te r (no s ta r t) , all flag s ta tions will im m ediately display the standing yellow flag, which will be im m ediately rem oved when next th e S ta rte r signals a race s ta r t .

20. RED FLAG PROCEDURE

Should th e Series Chief S tew ard (or his delegate) decide to stop the race , he will show a red flag a t the s ta rt/f in ish line or in fron t of race con tro l. Sim ultaneously, each flag s ta tio n around the course will display a black flag. These flags will inform all drivers th a t they m ust stop racing im m ediately and proceed to th e ir p its excercising ex trem e cau tion and being prepared to stop if necessary.

21. BLACK FLAG "ALL’VSAFETY CAR

In case of a black flag "ALL" a t s ta rt/f in ish , or if the sa fe ty car is dispatched during th e race , all flag sta tions will go to a standing yellow flag excep t for waving yellow flags a t the s ta tion preceding and a t the scene of an acciden t.

22. If th e race is re s ta r te d a f te r a red flag or black flag "ALL", the cars will be in a single file in the overall o rder in which they com pleted the ir last com pletely scored lap.

23. RACE CAR WEIGHT

For convenience, cars a re norm ally weighed a f te r qualifying or the race , with w hatever fuel is le f t aboard. However, a car must m ee t the minimum w eight a t all tim es. Even if it w ere to be weighed during qualifying or w ith no fuel, it m ust m eet the minimum w eight.

24. PRE RACE TESTING

The race organizer is prohibited from perm itting exclusive pre­race tes ting by any com petito rs during the five calendar days prior to a scheduled race weekend. If the track is available for p re-race tes tin g , all en tered com petito rs m ust be perm itted to p a rtic ip a te on an equal basis. It is the com petito rs responsi­bility to determ ine the availability of the track for testing .If an en te red com petito r does p a rtic ip a te in exclusive p re-race tes ting , he will be subject to disciplinary action .

25. IMPOUND PROCEDURE

A fter the conclusion of each race , one or m ore ca rs will be se lec ted by the Series Technical A dm inistrator for verification of legality . C ars may also be se lec ted a f te r or during quali­f ication , if deem ed necessary . The Series T echnical Admin­is tra to r will determ ine w hat item s a re to be checked or procedure to be u tilized .

In the event com ponent parts are se lected for fu rther verifi­cation which may en ta il a delay in determ ining legality , the p rize money to the car 's en tran t will be held back pending results.

The Series Chief S tew ard has the au thority to penalize the en tra n t as provided for in Paragraph #12 if the fu rther invest­igation determ ines the car to be illegal.

26. FAILURE TO PARTICIPATE

Any driver or en tran t who by com pleting an en try form has agreed to p a rtic ip a te in a com petition shall fulfill said obli­gation unless he offic ially cancels by notifying th e SCCA Professional Racing D epartm ent prior to the opening of regis­tra tio n a t the event.

The penalty for failu re to com pete, unless o fficially cancelled or o therw ise excused, shall be the loss of the en try fee and in addition a fine of up to $100 may be imposed.

27. POINTS

The SCCA Pro Racing D epartm ent reserves the final au thority to s e ttle any questions or dispute regarding point awards.

28. DRIVER BRIEFING

When the Series Chief S tew ard calls a m andatory driver b rie f­ing, a roll call will be taken and non-a ttendance will resu lt in m andatory fines.

REGULATIONS

1. PURPOSE

The SCCA Can-Am C hallenge is a series of FIA In ternationally listed even ts for Can-Am cars to determ ine a driver's cham p­ionship and an en tran t's championship.

2. CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS

3. STARTING PROCEDURE

A. All ca rs m ust be moved from th e paddock to the ir p it.

B. E ighteen (18) m inutes before th e s ta r t of th e pace lap, an announcem ent will be made and signs displayed in the p it lane th a t the p it ex it will open in 3 m inutes.

C. F ifteen (15) m inutes prior to th e s ta r t of th e pace lap, the pit ex it will open. C ars will leave the p its for their w arm ­up lap(s). A yellow flag will be displayed a t the last turn preceding the en tran ce to the p its for as long as cars a re

circu lating th e course prior to the s ta r t of the race . A car may make m ore than one lap, but m ust go through the p it lane to begin each such lap. At the end of th e ir warm -up lapis), they will stop on the grid in th e ir co rre c t s ta rtin g position with th e ir engines not running.

D. The grid will be a tw o-by-tw o grid; th e re will be two columns w ith tw o cars per row. The minimum d istance betw een rows is 6 m eters (20 fee t).

E. Twelve (12) m inutes prior to th e s ta r t of th e pace lap, th e re will be a 2 m inute warning th a t th e pit ex it will be closed.

F. Ten (10) m inutes prior to the s ta r t of the pace lap, th e pit ex it will be closed. Any car still in the paddock or p its will only be allowed to s ta r t in the race upon the order of race o ffic ia ls and a f te r the field has passed the pit ex it s ta rtin g th e ir f irs t scored lap.

G. Five (5) m inutes prior to the s ta r t of the pace lap, access to the grid, from the race course will close. Any car not on the grid and in position a t this tim e must be rem oved to the pit lane and will be allowed to s ta r t th e race only under th e provisions of F. above.

H. NO fuel shall be added to the ca rs excep t in the racing pits.

I. One (1) m inute a f te r the one m inute signal, a green flag will be shown a t the front of the grid to ind icate th a t the cars a re to begin their pace lap. Norm ally th e re will be one pace lap, unless m ore are ordered by the Series Chief S tew ard a t the request of the organizer. All pace laps will be paced by the pace ca r. When there are m ore than one pace lap, th e re will be a no tice to th a t e f fe c t given to ail team s a t leas t 20 m inutes prior to the beginning of the pace lap.

3. If th e field is in good order a t the com pletion of th e pace lap, the s ta r te r will display th e s ta rtin g signai. All laps a f te r th e scheduled pace lap(s) shall be counted to race distance, regardless w hether the s ta r te r has displayed the s ta rtin g signal or not. A fter the last ca r s ta rtin g from the grid has passed the pit ex it a f te r the scheduled pace lap(s), cars held in the pit iane may ex it the pits to s ta r t the race .

K. Should it be necessary a t any tim e to stop the above procedure, a START DELAYED sign will be displayed a t the fro n t of the grid. Should th is occur a f te r the s ta r t of the countdown (five-m inute signal), the s ta r t procedure will resum e a t the five-m inute signal.

L. There will be no overtaking during th e pace laps. Any car not able to move off th e grid shall fall in behind the las t c a r in th e field . Should such a ca r not be able to s ta r t and fall in behind th e fieid im m ediately a f te r th e field has le f t th e grid, it m ust be pushed to th e p it lane and wBl be allowed to s ta r t only under the provisions of F. above. Should th e track layout preven t pushing of th e ca r in to the p its, it shail be moved to a safe piace im m ediately a f te r th e field has le f t the grid. It may join the race only a f te r th e las t ca r in the fieid has passed th e p it ex it a f te r the scheduied pace lap(s).

M. If a ca r is unable to s ta r t the warm -up lap or th e pace laps in its assigned grid position thereby leaving a vacan t spot on th e grid, all ca rs behind and to e ith e r side of such a vacan t spot m ust continue to hoid the ir assigned grid positions.

4. RACE LENGTH

The race length, and purse d istribution , wiil be announced in the individual even t schedule.

5. ENTRIES

The en try fee for each event in the Series is $400 U.S. (Payabie to SCCA) per ca r which m ust be subm itted with the en try form . A back-up car may be en tered for an additional $50, but no additional creden tia ls will be issued for a back-up en try . Back­up cars m ust be cleariy identified during p rac tice and qualifying by the symbol "T" in close proxim ity to the race num ber. Entry fee for en tries received a f te r the en try deadline or en tries made a t the c ircu it will be $500. In order to receive points tow ard th e Can-Am Series Point Fund, the en try m ust be received by th e SCCA prior to the en try deadline. The en try form MUST BE COMPLETELY FILLED OUT and retu rned to SCCA per th e instructions on the en try form.

Entry fees will only be refunded or tran sfe rred to ano ther event when the SCCA Professional Racing D epartm ent is notified of th e cance lla tion by telephone and receives a cancellation num ber from the Pro D epartm ent prior to the opening of reg istra tion a t the even t.

Entry fee inciudes driver and (11) crew m em bers.

In th e case of doubt as to th e accep tab ility of an en try , a conditional accep tance may be g ranted . Such en tries wiil be allowed to p rac tice under th e observance of th e race offic ials. They will not be allowed to com pete unless approved by the Series Chief Stew ard. Such en tries will be advised of their s ta tu s by th e Series Chief Steward a f te r th e warm -up session prior to the race .

Final approval to com pete or any change in the car or driver from th a t specified on th e en try form shail be subject to the approval of th e Series Chief Steward.

6. CAN-AM SERIES IDENTIFICATION

The SCCA Can-Am C hallenge Series c lo th em blem , provided by th e SCCA, m ust be displayed on the chest of the drivers' uniform .

Three (3) SCCA decals and two (2) Can-Am C hallenge Series decals m ust be prom inently displayed, one on each side of the c a r , and one (1) SCCA decal on th e fron t. All decals m ust be located as specified by SCCA O fficials.

Failure to comply with the clo th emblem and decal requ ire­m ents will resu lt in ineligibility to receive prize money and/or points tow ard th e SCCA Can-Am Championship.

7. CAN-AM CAR ELIGIBILITY

Can Am cars shall be four-w heeled com petition cars w ith all enveloping bodywork constructed exclusively for closed c ircu it racing.

A) Body

1) The bodywork consists of all pa rts of the ca r which are in the a irstream with the exception of units defin ite ly associa ted w ith th e functioning of th e engine, tran s­mission, suspension, and sa fe ty roll bar.

2) The bodywork as viewed from the side and above must cover all m echanical com ponents excep t th a t the in­tak e , exhaust and rad ia to rs may be exposed.

The bodywork m ust extend over the full width of the tire s for a t least one th ird (1/3) of th e ir c ircum ference as viewed from the side.

The tire s shall not be seen as viewed from above, although the rear tire s may be exposed as viewed from the rea r. V entilation slots a re perm itted . Cycle type fenders (which only cover the tire and a re not con­tinuous with the rest of the body) a re prohibited.

All e lem ents of the bodywork shall be com pletely and neatly designed and finished w ith no tem porary or m akeshift e lem ents and shall provide com fort and sa fe ­ty for the driver.

3) Aerodynamic devices m ust comply w ith the rules re la t­ing to bodywork, m ust be securely m ounted on the en tire ly sprung part of th e ca r and not be moveable when the ca r is in motion.

The following rules are intended to prevent cars from having the ir ground e ffe c ts enhanced by m aintaining a seal betw een the bottom of the bodywork and the ground.

a . R eference Plane for D eterm ining Bottom of the Monocoque S truc ture

A f la t rigid p la te having a minimum width of 45 cm for single se a te r (100 cm for tw o-seaters) and a minimum length of SO cm m ust be perm anently form ed into the bottom of the c a r , and it m ust rem ain within 12.7 mm (.50") of horizontal when extended to th e p erim eter of the c a r . The longitudinal cen te rlin e of this refe rence p la te m ust coincide with the vehicle cen terline and m ust s ta r t approxim ately 30 cm (11.8") behind the fron t w heel cen te rlin e and extend rearw ards not less than the required 80 cm . If th is re fe ren ce plane does not in fac t coincide w ith th e plane form ed by th e main tub line, then a vertica l panel m ust be form ed to com pletely fill th e forw ard facing gap betw een these two (2) planes.

b. Com ponents Which Are P erm itted to Extend Below R eference Plane

No sprung p art of the ca r shall ex tend m ore than 6.35 mm (.250") below th e plane form ed by th is re fe ren ce p la te as extended to include th e en tire perim ete r of the com plete ca r.

c) Bodywork M aterial (Non-W earing Quality)

Any portion of the ca r which may possibly com e in co n tac t with the road surface m ust be constructed of a t least one of the following m aterials: fiberglass, K evlar, carbon fiber, alum inum , high density polyproplene. Tef­lon, and Lexan. All o ther m ateria ls which a re a ttach ed , imbedded or woven into th e above a re s tric tly pro­hibited.

d) D eflection Standards (Non-Flexible M aterials)

Additionally, any portion of the vehicle behind the front wheel cen terline which may possibly com e in co n tac t w ith the road surface m ust be able to w ithstand the

B) Dimensions-Open Cockpit

1) Height

No p a rt of th e bodywork, w ith the exception of the sa fe ty roll bar, th e engine induction airbox, and th e rea r body side fins, shall exceed a height of 100 cm (39.37") from the ground with the ca r in norm al racing trim w ith th e driver aboard. N either the sa fe ty roll bar or the engine induction system in take shall provide an aerodynam ic dow nforce. The maximum height will be m easured a t the highest point of the rea r airfo il. The re a r body side fins or airfo il side p ia tes shall not extend above 115 cm (95") from the ground.

2) Width

The maximum width shall not exceed 221 cm (87"), however, no portion shall ex tend m ore than 10 cm (3.9") beyond a plane tangen t to the ou ter face of the front and rea r wheels w ith tires.

3) Length

The maximum overall length shall be 985.3 cm (195").

9) C ockpit

The driver's sea t m ust be capable of being en tered w ithout the rem oval or m anipulation of any p art or panel (except for those closed cockpit ca rs which a re specifically waived by SCCA). The cockpit opening m ust comply w ith the following minimum dimensions:

C ockpit length: 60 cm (23.622")C ockpit width: 95 cm (17.717") m aintained over 30cm (11.811") from the m ost rearw ard point of the sea t b ack rest tow ard the fron t.

4) Doors:Two doors a re obligatory .— The word door shall be taken as meaning th a t p art of the bodywork which opens to give access to th e sea ts . The outside door handle m ust be clearly indicated . The dimensions of th e lower door panel (the p a rt which is norm ally opaque) m ust be such as to allow a rec tang le or a parallelogram of a t leas t 50 cm wide and 30 cm high, m easured vertically , to be inserted in it. The corners of the rec tang le or parallelogram may be rounded to a maximum radius of 15 cm.

C ars w ith sliding doors will not be allowed unless they include a sa fe ty system enabling a quick and easy ev acu a t­ion of the car 's occupants in case of acc iden t. The doors must be equipped w ith windows of a transparen t m ateria l each window being a t least UO cm wide and 25 cm high.The doors, when open, m ust affo rd free access to th e sea ts. They m ust be designed in such a way as to never re s tr ic t th e la te ra l vision of th e driver.

5) Windscreen

A w indscreen made of lam inated (safety) glass is com­pulsory. It m ust be possible to f it a 10 cm high (m easured vertically ) by 95 cm wide band m easured horizontally with a tape m easure betw een the inner faces of the windscreen mountings on th e w indscreen (and/or th e fro n t roll bar) the cen te r of which will be 30 cm from the highest point of the ca r.

6) Cockpit

D efinition of the C ockpit: inner volume in which the driver and the passenger sit.D efinition of th e term "seat": the two surfaces constitu ting the seating cushion and the sea t-back or back re s t.Seat Cushion: su rface m easured upwards from th e bottom of the spine of a person norm ally sea ted .

Minimum elbow width above the fron t sea ts: 130 cm (51"), m easured horizontally betw een the padding or inner sur­face of th e doors. It m ust be possible to occupy simul­taneously the driver's and passenger's sea ts which m ust be sim ilar, which shall be located sym m etrically on e ith er side of th e cen terline of the c a r . No com ponent shall in trude into these spaces, ap a rt from a com m unications system ,

Provision shall be made for tw o free spaces which m ust by sym m etrical in relation to the longitudinal axis of th e car and m ust be juxtaposable.Each of these spaces is defined as follows: -— its rec tangular vertica l section of a t least 750 cm and a t leas t 25 cm wide— its length shall be m easured from th e position of the driver's fee t to th e v ertica l projection of the mean of the steering wheel.

7) F ronta l P ro tection

The chassis shall include an im pact absorbing s tru c tu re (which may be a ttach ed ) ahead of the driver's fee t.It shall be an extension of all the skins of the main chassis construction to a point a t leas t 30 cm ahead of the soles of th e d river's fee t when norm ally resting on the pedals in the inoperative position.At this point 30 cm ahead of the d r iv e r 's fee t it shall have a cross section of a t leas t 200 cm .M aterial and thickness will be the sam e as the co rres­ponding skins of the main chassis s tru c tu re . T^e cross section of th e m ate ria l w ill .b e a t least 3 cm in non stab ilized m ateria l and 1.5 cm in stab ilized m ateria l.

E. Brakes

These cars m ust be equipped with a dual braking system operated by a single con tro l. In case of leakage or failu re to any point in the system , e ffe c tiv e braking power shall be m aintained on a t leas t two wheels.

F) Gearbox

Location is free . It m ust be insulated to preven t an ex ternal short c ircu it. If located within the driver com partm ent, it must be m ounted in a com pletely sealed enclosure.

H) Lights

There m ust be a t leas t one red ta illigh t f i tte d w ith a minimum 15 w a tt bulb. This light m ust be visible from the rear and a c tiv a te d upon request of the Series Chief Stew ard. This light is for use in rain or fog.

I) On-Board S ta rte r

All ca rs m ust be equipped w ith an on-board s ta r te r and power supply.

3) Oil C a tch Tank

Engines and/or oil supply tanks with open b rea th ers m ust be equipped with an oil ca tch tank made oif translucen t m ateria l, or f i tte d with a window, baffled to prevent oil spillage, and with a minimum capac ity of one (I) lite r. The con ta iner m ust be clean and em pty a t the s ta r t of the p rac tice and qualifying sessions as well as the race . Should an excess am ount of oil co llec t in this con ta iner, o ffic ia ls may black flag the ca r and order the con ta iner to be em ptied prior to the ca r continuing in th e p rac tice , qualifying sessions, or the race .

K) C oolant C a tch Tank

The cooling system m ust be e ith er a closed system or equipped with a coo lan t ca tch tank (separa te from the oil ca tch tank) made of translucen t m ateria l, baffled to preven t coolant spill­age and w ith a minimum capac ity of one lite r.

L) Safety Harness

All ca rs m ust be equipped w ith a six-point sa fe ty re s tra in t sys­tem as specified in th e GCR Appendix "Y" excep t th ree (3) inch

N) Firew all and Floor

Cars shall have a f ire resis tan t firew all to prevent the passage of flam e from the engine com partm ent or under the ca r to the cockpit. Openings in the firew all for the passage of engine con tro ls, w ires and lines shall be of minimum size necessary . No w ater hoses or header tanks shall be exposed to the driver. The floor of the cockpit shall be co nstructed to p ro tec t the driver by preventing th e en try of gravel, oil, w ater and debris from the road and engine. Bottom panels or belly panels shall be adequately vented to prevent th e accum ulation of fluid.

O) Cables, Lines, E lec trica l Equipment

Cables, lines and e le c tr ic a l equipm ent such as b a tte ry , fuel pump, e tc ., m ust be in com pliance with the requirem ents of the a irc ra ft industry as regards th e ir m ateria l and connections. All e le c tr ic a l ho t-lead connections of the power supply m ust be insulated.

P) Safety Fuel Cells

Total fuel capac ity of the ca r is 30 US gailons for single se a te rs , 26A US gallons for closed cars (Group C) including surge tank , d iscrim inator valve and fuel lines. All fuel excep t for th a t contained in the surge tank and lines m ust be within sa fe ty fuel ce lls conform ing to FIA/FT3 specifications (Appen­dix "X", GCR) which a re produced by a m anufacturer approved by th e FIA or SCCA. The fuel cell bladder m ust be fully surrounded by a con ta iner of 20 gauge stee l or .059" alum inum .

All fuel ce lls m ust contain sa fe ty foam baffling conform ing to U.S. Mil. Spec. MIL-B-83054B. Fuel filler openings and the ir caps m ust not pro trude beyond the coachw ork m ateria l. Provis­ions m ust be m ade for dry-break fuel filler and vent. (See refueling procedure, paragraph 8 below).

0 ) Fuel Surge Tanks

If sep ara te fuel pick-up tanks or surge tanks a re used, they shall have a maximum capac ity of one gallon.

R) D eform able S tructure

The en tire fuel tank a rea of the ca r licked by th e a irstream m ust incorporate a crushable s tru c tu re conform ing to the following specifications (except for tw o -sea te r sports cars previously reg istered with the SCCA). The te rm "licked by the airstream " is considered to define the com plete ex ternal area of th e body/monocoque construction irrespective of such added item s as w ate r rad ia to rs , in let ducts, windscreens, e tc .

1) The crushable s tru c tu re m ust be a sandwich co n stru c t­ion based on a f ire -re sis ta n t co re with a minimum crushing streng th of 25 Ibs./sq. in. W ater pipes are perm itted to pass through its core . The sandwich construction m ust include two sheets of 1.5 mm (.060") thickness, one of which shall be aluminum sheet having a tensile streng th of 15 tons/sq . in. and a minimum elongation of five percen t (5%).

2) The use of magnesium sheet will be authorized only if its thickness exceeds 3 mm (.120").

3) The minumum thickness of the sandwich construction shall be 10 mm (.3937"). The fore and a f t fuel tank area , however, shall provide for a crushabie s tru c tu re of a t leas t 100 mm (3.937") thickness a t such crushable s tru c tu re 's th ickest point. The position of th is widest point to be a t the m anufacturer's d iscretion over a length of a t least 35 cm (13.78") a f te r which it may be gradually reduced to 10 mm (.3937").

S) F ire Extinguisher

An on-board fire extinguisher system with a minimum capacity of 10 pounds of extinguishing agent (Halon or Freon) is required . This system m ust include a manual triggering device which can be operated by the driver on board, as well as by an em ergency crew m em ber outside th e vehicle. The triggering device must be ind icated by a red c irc le w ith the le t te r "E". The en tire fire extinguishing system m ust be located within the main s tru c tu re of the vehicle.

T) Roll Bars

All ca rs must be equipped w ith a roll bar of 1.37" X .080" alloy stee l or 1.5" X .120" mild stee l complying w ith SCCA requ ire­m ents. The top of the roll bar m ust be a t least 5 cm (2") above the driver's helm et when the driver is sea ted in norm al driving position. The top of the roll bar m ust be exposed to enable the car to be lifted by its roll bar. The roll bar in closed cars must also be exposed to be accessib le for lifting or be provided with a lifting eye. All cars m ust have a braced front roll hoop com plying with A rticle D-2, 3 of the SCCA G eneral Comp­e titio n Rules (1.37" X .080" alloy stee l or 1.5" X .120" mild steel).

This c ircu it breaker m ust cu t all e le c tr ic a l c ircu its (ba t­te ry , ignition, fuel pumps, lights, a lte rn a to r, e tc .) exclud­ing an on-board fire extinguisher. It shall be clearly m arked by the in ternational symbol (spark and blue t r i ­angle).

2) The c ircu it breaker controi(s) m ust be m ounted in close proxim ity to the right hand upright m em ber of the roll bar, but in a location so th a t it cannot be opera ted accidently .

3) C ars equipped w ith a m agneto ignition system m ust u tilize a sep ara te c ircu it breaker for such a system if it is not incorporated in the general c ircu it breaker system .

4) C ars m ust be equipped w ith an engine cu t-o ff sw itch, easily accessib le to th e driver when in norm al driving position and may be te s te d a t tech inspection.

V) Wheels

1) Must u tilize tire -b ead retain ing devices (i.e. in tegral re ­taining lips or retain ing bolts).

2) Modular wheels having th e segm ents in teg ra ted by adhesive bonding exclusively, a re prohibited.

3) All wheels m ust be crack-checked periodically . Wheels with evidence of visible dam age will be sum m arily r e je c t­ed.

It) Rim diam eter 13"or 15". Closed cockpit ca rs (Group C)may use wheels having 16" d iam eter.

W) Tires

All tire s used for o ffic ia l p rac tice , qualifying, and racing m ust be specifically designated for racing by their m anufactu rer and approved by SCCA. Tires will not be approved as qualifying tire s only and tire s used in qualifying may be required to be m ounted on the car for th e race s ta r t . 8. REFUELING

The engine need not be shut o ff. Refueling is perm itted only from a single SCCA-approved 11 gallon refueling can equipped with an approved dry-brake coupling and a maximum hose length of th ree (3) fe e t. A maximum of 11 gallons (one refueling can) can be used during a single pit stop. If m ore fuel is needed, th e ca r m ust retu rn to the race course and com plete a t leas t one lap before stopping again to refuel. If the fuel cell requires venting during refueling , a fuel vent con ta iner with a dry-brake coupling or a d iscrim inator valve (ATL) m ust be used. The 11 gallon refueling can m ust be hand held by a person standing on the ground (not on th e pit wall, ra il, or o ther elevation .) Fuel tran sfe r m ust be by gravity only and shall not be assisted by vacuum or pressure.

The person handling th e fuel con tainer may tak e a position close to th e p it wall or ra il im m ediately prior to th e car arriving for its refueling stop, but shall not step out or cross in fron t of th e approaching car until it has com e to a com plete stop.

The refueling crew m ust w ear fire -re s is ta n t ou ter clothing which covers th e body from neck to ankles and w rists, whenever fuel is added to the ca r while in the p it lane during p rac tice and qualifying. When refueling during a race , the refueling crew must w ear goggles, f ire -re s is ta n t hoods, socks, and gloves In addition to th e f ire -re s is ta n t ou ter clothing.

C. The Professional Racing S taff working the p it lane a re "Judges of F act" regarding the legality of Can-Am p it stops. Their decision is final and cannot be p ro tested .

D. All Can-Am com petito rs (en tran ts , drivers, team m anag­ers, crew ch iefs, and m echanics) whose duties require their presence on th e trackside of th e p it wall, m ust w ear a Can- Am com petito rs p ic tu re pass during p rac tice , qualifying, and th e race . To qualify for th is pass, th e com petito r must hold an FIA Driver or E n tran t L icense issued by th e ir ASN or be a full m em ber of SCCA or CASC.

E. Upon com pletion of the race NO fuel shall be added, tire s changed, or o th er work perform ed on cars to be impounded w ithout specific approval of the Can-Am Series Technical A dm inistrator or his designated rep resen ta tiv e .

F. Engine displacem ent checks may be made random ly among the co m petito rs . Not necessarily those who finish in the firs t three!

G. The Can-Am fo rm at is based upon p it stops for all com pet­itive ca rs . In order to com plete the race d istance , ca rs of over two (2) li te r displacem ent m ust make a t leas t one (1) p it stop in a 120 (approx.) m ile race , two (2) pit stops in a 150 (approx.) mile race , and th ree (3) pit stops in a 175 (approx.) m ile race . C ars not com pleting this requ irem ent will be penalized one lap.

SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS

1. PURPOSE

The SCCA Trans-Am Championship is a series of even ts for Touring (sedans) and Grand Touring (production sports cars) cars to determ ine a M anufacturer Champion and a D river Champion.

2. MANUFACTURER CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS

The SCCA shall aw ard Championship points and m aintain the point standings. Points will be aw arded to th e m anufacturers based on th e ir highest finishing positions.The points will be aw arded as follows:

1st — 9 Points 9th — 3 Points2nd — 6 Points 5th — 2 Points3rd — 9 Points 6 th — 1 Point

The Championship will be aw arded to the m anufacturer ac ­cum ulating the m ost points. Ties in final standings for the Series shall be resolved based on the m anufactu rer's record of firs t place finishes; then , if necessary , the num ber of second place finishes, th e num ber of th ird place finishes, taking into account the m anufactu re r's record as follows:

A. The num ber of firs t, then second, then th ird place finishes in the races counted tow ard the Championship, counting only one place for each m anufacture r per event.

B. The to ta l num ber of f irs t, then second, then third place finishes in all of the races in the Series.

3. DRIVERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS

The SCCA shall aw ard Championship points and m aintain the point standings to determ ine the Trans-Am Series D river C ham ­pion. Points shall be aw arded to the drivers based on their finishing position a t each even t.

The Championship will be aw arded to the driver accum ulating the m ost points. The e n tran t, however, will receive any prize money due for th a t race .

In case of ties in final point standings, they shall be resolved according to each driver's record of firs t place finishes; then , if necessary , th e num ber of second place finishes, e tc .

1». RACE LENGTH

The race length shall be approxim ately 100 m iles. Refueling during th e race is prohibited. If the series includes endurance races , refueling deta ils will be announced.

5. ENTRIES

The en try form is to be com pleted for each even t and sen t with the en try fee to th e SCCA according to the instructions on the en try form .

Entry fee for each even t is $300 U.S. payable to SCCA (which m ust be subm itted w ith the en try form) for each ca r/d riv er en te red . A back up car of the sam e make and model may be en te red for an additional $50.00 but no additional creden tia ls will be issued.

Events may be p re-en te red for a fee of $250.00 U.S. provided the en try form w ith fee is received by SCCA m ore thar 30 days prior to event._________________________________

E ntries m ade a t the c ircu it will be $350.00 U.S.. no exceptions

Entry fees will only be refunded or transfe rred to ano ther event when the SCCA Professional Racing D epartm ent is notified of the cancellation by telephone and the en tra n t receives a cance lla tion num ber from the Pro D epartm ent prior to the opening of reg istra tion a t the even t.

Entry fee includes driver and eight (8) crew m em bers.

Such en tries will be advised of th e ir s ta tu s by the Series C hief S tew ard no ia te r than; following the warm -up session preceding the race .

Final approval to com pete or any change in ca r or driver from th a t specified on the en try form shall be sub ject to the approval of th e Series Chief Stew ard.

6. TRANS-AM IDENTIFICATTON

A. The SCCA decais and the Trans-Am Championship Series decals will be provided by th e SCCA and m ust be prom ­inently displayed on the ca r as illustra ted .

B. The iden tifica tion num bers m ust be a t least fourteen (l<f) inches high w ith a minimum stroke of two (2) inches. The num bers m ust be e ith er BLACK or WHITE and provide a strong c o n tra s t w ith th e background color of the c a r . Approval of l.D. num bers will be to ta lly a t the d iscretion of the Series A dm inistrator. The side num bers m ust be on th e door as shown and th e re m ust be a number on the front of the ca r.

C. The driver's nam e m ust appear on each side of the roof just above the door window.

D. Engine d isp lacem ent (in cubic cen tim ete rs or cubic inches) m ust be displayed on each side of the hood.

E. Advertising, sponsor nam es and symbois on car doors must not in te rfe re with the legibility of the ca r iden tifica tion num ber and the SCCA and Series decals. Emblems of conflic ting series and even ts m ust be rem oved. Ali adver­tising and symbols m ust be approved by SCCA Series A dm inistrators.

F. All crew m em bers m ust be uniform ly a ttire d (m atching pants and shirts) a t all tim es.

The SCCA will publish a list of approved sedans or coupes (no roadsters or convertibles) having a maximum w heelbase of 110 inches and body sty le not m ore than five (5) years old (1980 and la te r only). In case of doubt involving specifications, re fe ren ce may be m ade to m aintenance books, general catalogs, MVMA specifications and FISA Homologation form s for make and model.

See Appendix A for list of eligible m akes, models and weights.

AUTHORIZED MODIFICATIONS

A. G eneral

1) It is not perm itted to make any changes, a lte ra tio n s or m odifications to the standard autom obile or any com ­ponent as produced by the m anufactu re r, unless such m odifications a re required under sa fe ty equipm ent or specificaily authorized by these rules.

Any springs (including torsion bars) on th e autom obiie such as c lu tch , suspension, e tc . , may be replaced by o thers of u n restric ted origin, but w ith no change in the number provided by the m anufacturer and on condition they can be f itte d w ithout a lte ra tio n of the original supports or a ttach m en ts , excep t as specifically autho­rized by these Rules.

Where a lte rn a te suspension and drive tra in equipm ent is au thorized , m odifications to the car/chassis a re p erm it­ted to install au thorized equipm ent, provided the mod­ifications serve no o th er purpose.

B. Chassis and Bodywork

The in ten t of the following rules is to m aintain the recognizable ex ternal fea tu re s of the m anufacturers m ake and model while providing th e necessary sa fe ty and per­form ance m odifications. The restric tio n s regarding the ex ternal shape of the body and the use of belly pans is intended to preven t unauthorized a tte m p ts to obtain a ground e f fe c t by provisions in the rules which perm it one- o ff chassis and fram es. The provisions w ere made to reduce the cost of building and repairing a Trans-Am ca r...n o t to bring in high technology stream lining and/or ground e ffe c ts .

1) The ex ternal shape of the body cannot be changed excep t when specifically authorized i.e ., fenders, fron t and rea r spoilers and authorized a lte rn a te hoods. S tan­dard grilles, window moldings, rain g u tte rs , and all ex ternal trim and model iden tifica tion or approved facsim iles m ust be retained .

2) Com ponent pa rts of the bodywork such as hood, doors and deck lid may be lightened or replaced by ones made of a l te rn a te m ateria l provided the shape is identical to the original p a rt or approved a lte rn a te .

3) The orginal roof, windshield and angle of the windshield 1 m ust be m aintained.

<t) Glass headlights, fron t parking lights, front signal lights, lenses and bulbs m ust be rem oved.

5) The headlight openings m ust be covered with a wire mesh screen or panel made of m eta l, fiberglass or o ther approved m ate ria l having the sam e contour as the original lens, mounted so th a t the headlight bezel/rim rem ains in place m aintaining the standard appearance of the production autom obile. Side m arker light assem ­blies m ust be rem oved and th e resulting openings cov­ered with a p la te whose dimensions do not exceed those of the original parts . O ther lighting parts and operating ancillaries may be rem oved. In the case of pop-up headlights, th e en tire assem bly may be rem oved and the opening covered with a screen or p la te (as above), but w ithout the headlight bezel/rim requ irem ent. However, the headlight doors m ust provide a stock appearance .lt is not perm itted to re lo ca te the standard openings for headlights, parking lights, signal lights, e tc .

H eadlight, fron t parking light, fron t signal light and sim ilar standard openings in the fron t of the car may be used for ducting air to the engine, front brakes and/or oil coolers and ducts may pass through in terio r panels for this purpose. The cross sectional a rea of a single duct shall not exceed the cross sectional a rea for th e original (single) headlight lens.

6) Bumpers may be rem oved providing all projecting hardw are is rem oved, excep t when the bum pers a re an in tegral p art of the txjdywork, in which case they may be replaced w ith replica(s) of d iffe ren t m ate ria l. Bumper b racket holes in the bodywork may be covered provided such covering serves no o th er purpose.

7) All standard production sea ts and sea t backs must be rem oved. The driver sea t m ust be replaced with a racing type of bucket se a t providing ia te ra l support for the torso. Seat mountings m ust be rein forced and sea t backs m ust be braced to prevent their failure. The driver's sea t m ust be located so th a t ano ther se a t of equal dim ensions could be f itte d to the passenger side of the car.

8) Doors m ust be pinned to prevent the ir opening in case of an acciden t. Pins or straps may be added to engine hoods and trunk lids to supplem ent or rep lace the la tches. Standard door hinges and la tch m echanism s may be rem oved, and doors m ust be capable of being opened.

9) Floor m ats, in terio r door panels and in terio r trim are not required.

10) The contour of the fenders may be changed for t ire c lea ran ce provided the shape (in horizontal projection) including the wheel opening is the sam e as the original and does not confuse the Identity of the ca r. The tire shall not extend beyond the fender opening a t the highest point of the tire . Fenders may be made of a lte rn a te m ate ria l. Body panels (including hood and fenders) and in terio r panels may not have ven tila tion openings excep t where f itte d in standard production or specifically au thorized , and a re subject to approval of the Trans-Am Technical A dm inistrator.

R ear fenders extending onto the door panels may be approved upon specific application. These fenders and extensions m ust be produced in production quan tities and readily availab le from a fte rm a rk e t sources. Ap­proved a lte rn a te s a re listed in Appendix 'B'.

I t ) The chassis, fram e or sub-fram e may be lightened, re in forced , or replaced provided com ponents and a t ­tachm en ts a re not re located excep t w here specifically perm itted . Reinforcing does not au tho rize the use of belly pans forw ard of the original firew all location or a f t of the fron t edge of the rea r wheel opening. The floor in th e driver/passenger com partm ent m ust m ain­tain the basic shape of the original floor, however, on th e passenger side it may be raised (not higher than the original drive shaft tunnel), approxim ately 6 to 8 inches to accom odate th e installa tion of th e exhaust system .

No p art of the bodywork or chassis to the rea r of the front wheel opening shall touch the ground when two tire s on the sam e side are defla ted .

12) The firew all betw een the engine com partm ent and the driver com partm ent may be m odified for installa tion of exhaust headers or to allow engine relocation as au th ­orized by these rules.

13) The steering wheel may be replaced and th e rake of the steering column may be a lte red . A collapsible type of steering column equivalent to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 204 is m andatory

14) Inside door handles, window cranks & window m ech­anism s a re not required.

15) Driver and passenger door window glass or p lastic is not p e rm itted . R ear q u arte r, rear side and rea r windows may be m ade of c lea r transp aren t polycarbonate m a­te ria l having a minimum thickness of .125", but m ust rem ain in the sam e position in the fram e or opening as the original glass.

16) The rep lacem en t, addition or rem oval of accessories, gauges, sw itches, indicators and o th er in terio r mod­ifications for the convenience of the driver and to perm it the installation of required sa fe ty equipm ent is authorized , provided such m odifications have no in­fluence w hatever on the m echanical perform ance of the

car. Such m odifications do not include th e substitu tion , rep lacem en t, or rem oval of any elem ent of the body­work or chassis excep t w here specifically authorized . The use of a ir jacking system s is pro­hibited.

17) A spoiler may be f itte d to the fron t of the car below the horizontal cen terline of the fron t wheei hubs. (An in term ed ia te mounting device may be used on cars w here the bottom of the fron t bodywork te rm in a te s above the cen te rlin e of the wheel hubs).

The spoiler shall not protude beyond the overall per­im eter of the ca r as viewed from above, or a f t of the forw ard-m ost part of the front fender opening (cutout).

Openings a re perm itted in the fron t spoiler for the purpose of ducting air to the brakes and/or oil coolers.

18) It is perm itted to f it a rea r deck iid spoiler which com plies w ith e ith er of the following:

a) A production rea r spoiler th a t is standard equipm ent for the m odel, or approved a lte rn a te .

b) An opaque duck ta il or lip type of rea r spoiler, painted to m atch the color schem e of the car contiguous with the deck lid f itte d rearw ards of the rear window compiying with the foliowing:

1. Max. Height: 6 (six) inches as per the accom ­panying sketch .

2. Max. Width: Not exceeding the width of the coachw ork excluding flaring of th e fenders.

3. Overhang: Shall not extend rearw ards of therear-m ost ex trem ity of the coachw ork.

1) The b a tte ry is un restric ted provided it is securely mounted and if not in the engine com partm ent, it m ust be enclosed in a n on -e iec trica i conductive p ro tec tive box.

2) The e le c tr ic a l system is u n restric ted provided fully operational s ta r te r m otor, two (2) ta il lights and two (2) brake lights a re installed.

3) Any d istribu tor or transis to rized ignition system , firing the sam e number of spark plugs as the original dis­trib u to r, any wiring harness and any spark plugs may be used. M agneto ignition is prohibited unless f itte d in production.

E. Engine and D rive Train

1) Exhaust manifoid(s), header(s), ta il pipe(s) and muf­fler/s) may be of un restric ted origin. The exhaust pipe(s) and/or m uffier(s) may be recessed into the floor panel and/or rocker panel, but shall not pass through the door. Exhaust opening(s) m ust ex it to the rea r of the wheelbase cen terline- away from the c a r . R otary piston engines m ust use an SCCA approved m uffler. In 1985 all ca rs m ust comply w ith G .C .R . Appendix N "Sound Control".

I 7) The cooling fan may be modified, substitu ted or re ­moved. The w ater pump(s) may be replaced with any

8) The cyiinder bore may be changed and any pistons and piston pins may be used.

9) Any cam shaft(s) mounted in standard location may be used.

12) It is perm itted to lighten, balance or modify in shape by tooiing the standard or optional com ponents of the engine and drive tra in provided it is alw ays possible to identify them positively as such. M aterial shall not be added to these com ponents unless specifically au thor­ized.

13) The use of a lte rn a te engine and drive train com ponents considered rep lacem ent parts such as seals, bearings, nuts, bolts, studs, washers and gaskets is perm itted provided they a re of the sam e type and dimension.

15) The com pression ra tio may be a lte red by machining, using any head gasket(s) or elim ination of head gasket(s).

16) Use of any oil pan (sump), oil pump(s) and/or oil pickups is allow ed. Oil pump(s) m ust be driven m echanically by the engine. Dry sump system s a re perm itted . The oil tank m ust be located within th e bodywork, and all oil lines m ust be m eta l braided Aeroquip with AN threaded coupling nuts. The tank, cap and all f ittings m ust be isolated so th a t in case of spillage, leakage or failu re , oil will not reach the driver.

17) Any axle tube, final drive housing, gear ra tio , lim ited slip or locked d iffe ren tia l may be used. Final drive units which perm it ra tio changes while the ca r is in m otion a re prohibited excep t w here standard pro­duction.

18) Any readily available transm ission having no more than 5 forw ard speeds and a reverse , may be used provided it is located in th e sam e basic position as used in the production car and any shift linkage may be used.

19) Any m odification may be m ade in the linkage betw een the clu tch pedal and the clu tch housing including the rep lacem ent of m echanical linkage with a hydraulic system .

20) A heavy duty drive shaft may be used. S teel re tain ing strap(s) m ust be used to prevent the drive shaft from dropping in case of a coupling failu re.

Transverse mounted engines may be re ­located for axle/CV joint alignm ent or may be re - iocated to a longitudinal position with specific au thor­ization.

F. Cooling System

1) The use of any engine, transm ission and d iffe ren tia l oil coolers is perm itted provided it/th e y a re mounted com ­ple te ly within or under the bodywork, but not in the driver/passenger com partm ent. A ssociated oil cooler pumps and lines a re perm itted for th e transm ission and d ifferen tia l.

2) The use of any w ater rad iato r is allowed provided th e re a re no changes in the ex terio r bodywork of the au to ­mobile to accom odate its use. S eparate expansion or header tanks a re perm itted , provided they a re mounted in the engine com partm ent.

3) Sealing or shrouding the a ir flow a rea betw een the norm al grille opening and the w ater rad ia to r is p erm it­ted .

») On w ater-coo led cars, therm o sta ts may be m odified or replaced with blanking sleeves or re s tr ic to rs .

G. Fuel Induction Svstem

Induction system (intake m anifold, carbu re to rs , injectionsystem , tu rbo-charger) m ust be as listed in Appendix A.

1) Any a ir filte r may be used or the f ilte r may be rem oved. Dynamic a ir intakes may be f itte d on the ca rb u re to r. Air may be ducted to th e carbu re to r provided the ducting is contained within the engine com partm en t and the a ir is supplied through normal openings in the bodywork (or as specifically authorized in 8.A.5.). All inducted air m ust pass through the th ro ttle venturis.

W C ockpit opera ted boost contro l is prohibited.

5) Any fuel pump(s) may be used and the location of the pump(s) may be changed. Fuel pumps shall not be located in the d river/passenger com partm ent.

6) All fuel lines passing through the d river/passenger com ­partm en t m ust be m ade of m etal braided hose. The num ber of fuel lines is free .

7) Any th ro ttle linkage may be used, but m ust be equipped w ith a positive m ethod of th ro ttle closing by use of ex te rn a l springs.

H. Brakes

1) The use of any dual m aste r cylinders and/or pressure equalizing device is perm itted .

2) Servo-assist system s are free .

3) Backing p la tes or d irt shields may be v en tila ted or rem oved and brake air ducts may be f itte d provided they extend in a forw ard d irection only and no changes a re m ade in the bodywork.

U) Parking brakes a re not required.

5) Brake lines m ust be stee l tubing, m etai braided hose or flexible brake hose. They may be re located and may be given additional pro tection .

6) Any brake discs, ca lipers and/or drums may be used provided drum s or discs are in the sam e location (inboard vs. outboard), as on the recognized model.

7) W ater cooling system s a re perm itted .

9. SAFETY EQUIPMENT REQUIRED ON ALL CARS

A. There m ust be a m eta l bulkhead separa ting th e d riv er/fro n t passenger com partm ent from the com partm ent containing th e fuel tank. The fuel tank cap, fille r neck and all fittin g s must be isolated so th a t in case of spillage, leakage or fa ilu re , fuel will not reach th e driver.

B. Safety fuel ceil complying with SCCA/FIA FT3 requ ire­m ents. Maximum fuel ce il capac ity is 120 lite rs (31.68 U.S. gallons).

C. Fuel tank fille r cap m ust be a non-vented cap and m ust not pro trude beyond th e plane of the bodywork. Where refueling is p e rm itted th e fille r m ust be an approved dry- brake coupling type and not protrude beyond the plane of th e bodywork.

D. All fuel tank vents m ust incorporate check valves toprevent fuel spillage. D iscrim inator valves m ust notpro trude beyond the plane of bodywork.

E. Roll cage to SCCA requ irem ents (GCR Appendix 2) m ust include NASCAR type side bars across driver's opening.

F. A window sa fe ty n e t m ust be mounted on the roll cage so so as to prevent the d river's arm and/or head from acciden tally protruding through the window opening.

G. Windshield sa fe ty clips and rea r window safe ty straps mustbe installed on all cars. Three (3) clips (3" X 1" X .125")m ust be bolted or rive ted to the body a t the top of thewindshield. Two (2) clips (sam e dimensions) m ust be bolted or rive ted to the cowl and extend over the bottom edge of the windshield. Clips m ust be spaced not less than 12" ap a rt. The rea r window m ust be secured by two (2) m etal straps (l"w ide X .125" thick) bolted or rive ted to the body both a t the top and bottom of the rea r window. It is recom m ended th a t th ree one (1) inch wide strip s of stee l or aluminum be installed behind the windshield to support it from collapsing inwards if it becom es dam aged.

H. O n-board (Halon) f ire extinguishing system having a min­imum capac ity of 10 pounds. O u tle ts d irec ted to driver and fuel tank com partm ents, optionally to engine co m p art­m ent.

L. Scattershield

Scattersh ie ld or explosion proof bell housing is required on all ca rs w here the failu re of the clu tch or flywheel could c re a te a hazard to the driver. Recom m ended m aterials are:

M. Mirrors

M irrors shall provide driver visibility to the rea r of both sides of the ca r.

N. Oil C a tch Tank

All engine crankcase, d iffe ren tia l and transm ission/ transax le b rea th ers m ust te rm in a te in con tainers having a minimum capac ity of one (1) U.S. quart. These con tainers cannot be m ounted in the driver/passenger com partm ent.

O. Towing Eve

ROBERT BOSCH/VW SUPER VEE CHAMPIONSHIP

REGULATIONS

1. PURPOSE

The SCCA R obert Bosch/VW Super Vee Championship is a series of even ts for In ternational Form ula Super Vee Racing C ars, sponsored by Volkswagen of A m erica and R obert Bosch C or­poration.

2. CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS

The SCCA shall aw ard Championship points and m aintain the point standings. Points shall be aw arded to drivers based upon th e ir finishing position in each even t as follows:

1st — 20 Points 2nd — 16 Points 3rd “ H Points lith — 12 Points

3. RACE LENGTH

R ace length shall be a minimum of 50 m iles and a maximum of 65 m iles. If. a t the com pletion of th e originally scheduled pace lap(s) th e s ta rtin g field is not given th e green flag, all ad d it­ional pace laps prior to the display of the green flag will count tow ards the announced race d istance.

ENTRIES

The en try fee for each event in the Series is $250 U.S. (Payable to SCCA) per car which m ust be subm itted with the en try form . A back-up car may be en te red for an additional $50, but no additional creden tia ls will be issued for a back-up en try . Back­up cars m ust be c learly identified during p rac tice and qualifying by the symbol "T" in close proxim ity to the race num ber. Entry fee for en tries received a f te r th e en try deadline or en tries made a t th e c ircu it will be $300. The en try form MUST BE COMPLETELY FILLED OUT and retu rned to SCCA per the instructions on the en try form .

Entry fees will only be refunded or tran sfe rred to another event when th e SCCA Professional Racing D epartm ent is notified of th e cance lla tion by telephone prior to the opening of regis­tra tio n a t the even t. Entry fee includes d river and four W crew m em bers.

The num ber of en tries to be accep ted shali be a t the discretion of the O rganizer and may exceed the num ber of cars to be s ta rte d in th e Championship com petition .

5. VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION (See G énérai Supps. Item H)

A. Iden tification num bers a t least 8" high with a minimum stroke of 1.5" m ust be on the fron t of the car and on each side of the bodywork im m ediately forw ard of the rear wheels. In addition, the num ber (6" minimum height) m ust be displayed near th e top of both rea r wing end piates.

B. Three (3) SCCA decals, th ree (3) Bosch decals, and th ree (3) VW M otorsport decals m ust be prom inently displayed (on each side of the ca r and on the fron t in locations as specified by the series Technical A dm inistrator).

6. CAR SPECIFICATIONS

A. C ar C onstruction A form ula for sing le-seat open wheel racing cars based on original VW com ponents.

1) The only original VW standard com ponents which will be accep ted a re those appearing in the m anufacturing com pany's parts lists and/or unm istakably m arked as original VW parts . They m ust have been subjected to all the m anufacturing processes which th e company applies to parts for incorporating into standard pro­duction vehicles.

5) Unless authorized by these regulations, no new m ateria l shall be added in any way to VW p arts . Specifically, no m ateria l shall be added to the engine by welding, adhesive joints, e lectro lysis , e tc . Chassis and body parts , how ever, may be p lated or painted to enhance th e ir appearance.

6) Except for the crankshaft, engine parts shall not be n itrided or tre a te d in sa lt baths.

7) Bolts, nuts, spring washers and o th er types of washers are u n restric ted .

B. Weight

Minimum weight - 959 lbs. (935K), as qualified or raced(w ithout driver).

C. Suspension

1) F ront wheel suspension may be of any design.

2) The steering m echanism may be of any design.

3) Any form of rea r wheel suspension may be used, pro­vided it incorporates standard VW constan t velocity joints (reworking to f it is perm itted).

D. Wheeis

1) Any m ake of wheel rim may be used. The following dimensions a re compulsory:

2) Only four (9) wheels a re perm itted . They shall be iden tical for the le ft and right front axles, and iden tical for the le f t and right rea r axles.

Emission contro l a ir injection holes in th e cylinder head (standard VW U.S. model) may be plugged w ith standard pipe plugs provided they serve no o th er purpose o th er than to blank off these ex te rn a l holes.

8) Pistons. Piston Pins, RingsAny pistons, piston rings and piston pins may be used provided th e piston does not p ro jec t beyond the upper face (sealing face) of the engine block a t the top dead cen te r.

10) Exhaust SystemThe exhaust pipes from all cylinders m ust lead re a r­wards. Their ac tu a l design or construction is unres­tr ic te d , provided the ta il (outlet) pipes a re not higher than 29 inches from the ground. The ends of the pipes m ust not p ro jec t by m ore than 26 inches rearw ard of the rea r axle cen terline .

11) Bushings may be installed w here none a re f itte d as standard , provided they a re concen tric and the ce n te r- line of the bushed p art is not changed. No com ponent shall be re located and no prohibited m odifications shall resu lt from the use of the above bushing. Threads may be repaired provided the position and the d iam eter of the th reads a re not changed.

G. Transmission

1) A VW gear box housing incorporating not m ore than four (9) forw ard speeds and an operational reverse gear m ust be used. Reworking to adapt to the VW engine and to acce p t various gear ra tio s is perm itted . Side p la te s may be m odified or replaced.

2) L im ited slip, locking d iffe ren tia ls , or fully locked dif­fe re n tia ls a re prohibited.

H. L ubricating System

1) Dry sump engine lubrication is perm itted including the necessary m odifications to the crankcase and oil c irc u it. The oil sump is un restric ted .

2) Any oil cooler may be used, but m ust be supplied through se p a ra te oil lines. If rea r m ounted, coolers must not extend beyond the inner edge of the rea r tire or be m ounted in a dangerous position.

3) The oil tank m ust be mounted in a sa fe position.

9) Oil hoses m ust comply with the standards specified above and the regulations for fuel lines.

3) The bodywork ahead of the front wheels m ust not exceed 39.9 inches (100 mm) m easured from the c en te r of the fron t wheel hub. The maximum width of body sections ahead of the fron t wheels is 53.1 inches (1350 mm). No part of th e body ahead of the fro n t wheels and exceeding the overall width of 37.9 inches (950 mm) may extend upwards beyond th e upper edge of a fron t wheel rim .

9) The cockpit opening m ust have th e following minimum dimensions:

5) R ear wings (aerodynam ic aids) a re required a t all tim es and m ust m eet th e following conditions:

a) They m ust be adequately secured to th e fully sprung mass of the vehicle and be firm ly fixed when the car is in m otion. They m ust be mounted sym m etrically to the vehicle's longitudinal axis.

b) The maximum height of the top of the airfo il or endp la te from the ground under all conditions (in­cluding driver on board) m ust not exceed 35.9 inches (900 mm). Minimum height of a irfo il from the ground is 26.0 inches (66 cm).

c) The maximum width of the wing m ust not exceed 37.9 inches (950 mm). Minimum width is 31.5 inches (800 mm). Minimum area of 500 square inches (3226 cm ).

M. Fuel Tank

1) Must be a sa fe ty fuel cell produced by an FIA/SCCA ce rtified m anufacturer.

2) Must be com pletely enclosed in a con tainer of 20 g a u p stee l or .059" aluminum and m ust be iso lated from the engine com partm ent by a fireproof bulkhead.

3) The tank filler pipe and/or cap m ust not p ro jec t beyond the bodywork.

4) The fuel tank cannot be vented into the roil bar. Any air vents must end beyond the bodywork and a t leas t 9.8 inches (250 mm) behind the driver's seat.

5) Any type or make of fuel pump is perm itted , but must not be located in the cockpit.

N. F ire Extinguisher

1) The car m ust be equipped w ith an on-board (Halon) fire extinguisher system w ith a minimum capac ity of 5 pounds. The b o ttle m ust be m ounted so th a t a sub­s ta n tia l p ro tec tiv e s tru c tu re surrounds and will re ta in th e b o ttle in even t of m ajor fron t end dam age. The b o ttle m ust also be m ounted so th a t it can be rem oved easily for fully-charged verifica tion by weighing.

2) The prim ary operating m echanism (trigger) m ust be readily visible to a person engaged in rescue work and accessib le to both rescue personnel and the driver. A second trigger opera ted in conjunction with the m aster kill sw itch or located im m ediately ad jacen t to the ex ternal kill sw itch is strongly recom m ended.

3) All cockpit and ex ternal operating triggers m ust be m arked w ith th e le t te r "E" inside a red circle .

If) The system m ust discharge e ffec tiv e ly onto the right side of the engine as well as throughout the cockpit.

O. D river R e stra in t System

All ca rs m ust be equipped w ith a six-point sa fe ty harness re s tra in t system as specified in th e GCR, Appendix Y.A. Three inch wide shoulder harness webbing or th re e inch

wide padding is required from the chassis a ttach m en t point to the length adjusting hardw are a t th e driver's ches t. A lternatively a th ick padded collar with two inch wide webbing beneath it may be used. The driver m ust u tilize th is re s tra in t harness a t all tim es during p rac tice , qualifying, and racing.

P. S teering Wheel

1) To aid in rem oving injured drivers from cars, steering w heel hubs m ust be designed so th a t m anipulation of only one locking device by hand, w ithout tools will enable the en tire steering wheel to be rem oved.

2) A rem ovable steering wheel hub pad (min. 1 inch thick) m ust be installed over the steering wheel hub.

Q. Mirrors

All c a rs m ust have a t leas t two m irrors adequate to provide driver visibility to the rea r of both sides of the ca r a t all tim es.

7. MISCELLANEOUS

A. T ire Rule

All tire s used for o ffic ia l p rac tice , qualifying, and racing m ust be specifically designated for th e Super Vee Series by the ir m anufacturer and approved by th e SCCA. The SCCA shall publish a list of approved compound tire s by manu­fac tu re r and compound num ber. The compound number m ust be clearly indicated on the outside sidew all of all approved tire s . Buffing, rem oval or modifying the com ­pound num ber m arkings from the tire sidewall is pro­hib ited . The m anufacturer of any approved tire must have suffic ien t tire s a t th e track to equip for qualifying and racing a t least 50% of all ca rs en tered . Approved tire s must be available to all com petito rs under the sam e term s and conditions and the m anufacturer m ust provide chang­ing balancing, and techn ical services to all com petito rs throughout the duration of the en tire race even t.

8. OVAL TRACK PROCEDURES

A. P rac tice

1) During p rac tice sessions, all ca rs m ust e n te r the pit a re a and stop a t th e ir p it a t their firs t opportunity a f te r observing a yellow light a t any light sta tion on the track . No car may re -e n te r the track from the pit lane until the yellow light s itua tion is solved and the course becom es green again.

2) The scheduled tim e a llo tted to p rac tice is to ta l running clock tim e , not o n -track green flag tim e.

B. Q ualification

1) C ars will qualify in the o rder in which they a re lined up in designated position. These positions are reserved as long as the ca r rem ains in the designated place until the en tra n t is ordered to make his qualifying a tte m p t.

2) If an en tra n t does not proceed with the qualification a t ­tem p t when ordered to do so, he will fo rfe it his position in the qualification order and he may be penalized fu rth er by th e loss of one qualifying lap.

3) If qualification is suspended for a considerable period of tim e , en tran ts a re not required to m aintain their ca r in th e designated place provided the ca r is re tu rned to position within the announced tim e period. Any suspen­sion of qualifying will be announced as well as the designated tim e a t which ail cars m ust be retu rned to th e qualifying line up.

U) An offic ially en tered back-up car may be qualified, but shall only s ta r t the race in the position in w hich it qualified and it m ust be driven by the driver who qualified it. However, a ca r or driver, not qualifying, may s ta r t a t the rea r of the grid a t the Series Chief Stew ard's discretion .

5) A qualifying a tte m p t shall be considered s ta r te d when the fron t wheels of the car cross the s ta rtin g line a f te r the qualifying s ta r t signal is given by th e s ta r te r .

6) The num ber of warm -up laps will be indicated by the Series C hief S tew ard a t the Qualifying Briefing. If the c a r stops anyw here on the course before th e qualifying s ta r t signal is given by the s ta r te r , the driver will not be charged with a qualifying a tte m p t.

C. S tart

SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS

1. PURPOSE

The SCCA R abbit/B ilstein Cup is a series of even ts for Volks­wagen R abbits, and is sponsored by Volkswagen of A m erica, Inc. and Bilstein C orporation of Am erica.

2. CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS

The SCCA shall aw ard Championship points and m aintain the point standings. Points will be aw arded to drivers based upon th e ir finishing positions in each event as follows:

1st — 20 Points 2nd — 16 Points 3rd — 14 Points 4th ~ 12 Points 5th — 11 Points 6 th ~ 10 Points 7 th — 9 Points 8th — 8 Points

9th — 7 Points 10th — 6 Points 11th — 5 Points 12th — 4 Points 13th ~ 3 Points 14th — 2 Points 15th — 1 Point

The Championship will be aw arded to the driver accum ulating th e m ost points. In case of ties in final point standings, they will be resolved according to each driver's record of f irs t-p lace finishes; then , if necessary , the number of second-place fin­ishes, e tc .

If m ore than one driver drives a given autornobile in any one race , ne ither driver shall rece ive Championship points for th a t race . The e n tra n t, how ever, will receive any prize money due for th a t race .

RACE LENGTH

R ace length shall be approxim ately 50 m iles.

4. ENTRIES

The en try fee for each event in the Series is $250 U.S. (Payable to SCCA) per car and driver which m ust be subm itted with the en try form . Entry fee for en tries m ade a t the c ircu it will be $300.

D. The drivers' nam e m ust appear on each side of th e roof just above the door window.
