Wilderness First Responder Course led by SOLO instructor. The Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is the recognized industry standard for those who work as backcountry trip leaders, camp counselors, mountain guides, river guides, and ski patrollers. Study includes response and assessment, musculoskeletal injuries, environmental emergencies and survival skills, soft tissue injuries and medical emergencies. More advanced than Wilderness First Aid. Wilderness First AidCourse led by SOLO instructor. Learn basic first aid assessment and care protocols. Two-year certification satisfies American Camp Association requirements for leaders of overnight camping trips. Useful to guides, scout leaders and anyone who enjoys outdoor recreation. LifeguardingCourse led by American Red Cross Instructor. Learn preventative and emergency response skills for pool and waterfront. Strong swimming skills required. Water Safety Instructor (WSI)Course led by American Red Cross instructor. The Adirondack Training Institute supports outdoor leaders and camp professionals through a series of conference and certification opportunities. Instructors and presenters come from national associations and are recognized experts in their fields.

These opportunities are hosted at YMCA Camp Chingachgook, a year-round retreat center and summer camp on Lake George on the southern end of the Adirondack Park. We offer an enjoyable, rustic experience. Cabins and yurts are equipped with electricity, bunks, mattresses, and heat during winter months. Hearty and nutritious meals are served three times a day in our communal dining hall.

Safe Powerboat HandlingCourse led by US Coast Guard Licensed Captain. This classroom and on the water course teaches safe powerboat operation and improved boat handling skills. The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators, which represents the boating authorities of all 50 states, has approved the course. Upon successful completion of the course and exam, a US Powerboating and NYS certificate will be granted. For more information, visit www.uspowerboating.com. NRA Range Instructor / Rifle InstructorCourse led by NRA instructor. The NRA certification course trains riflery instructors to teach rifle marksmanship and safely operate a camp rifelry range. The full three days is recommended for staff operating a range at a summer camp. The course is recognized by the American Camp Association and Department of Health. Introduction to Kayak InstructorCourse led by American Canoe Association instructor. The certification exam requires demonstrating effective instruction in craft safety and kayaking skills as well as basic boat control skills, teaching ability, safety awareness and technical knowledge. Level 1 & Level 2 Archery InstructorCourse led by USA Archery instructor. Level 1 Instructors learn to accurately shoot a bow, teach beginner archers, manage a basic archery program and repair equipment. Recognized by the American Camp Association for archery range instructors. Includes sample lesson plans. The Level 2 course includes the Level 1 certification. This course encompasses more advanced equipment and shooting techniques, as well as qualifying students to teach the Level 1 Archery Instructor Certification Course. High 5 Adventure Basics CourseOur four-day course, led by a certified High 5 Adventure Instructor, will give you the important first steps in understanding group flow and experience while running an effective challenge course program. Participants will acquire a variety of icebreakers, games, and teambuilding activities relevant to the entire camp community. Using our low ropes and high ropes challenge course as well as our 56-foot climbing tower, students will leave with useful knowledge in spotting, equipment use, knot tying, belay skills, and risk management techniques. Level 1 Waterski InstructorCourse led by Water Ski Works instructor. Learn water ski instruction skills including: safe navigation of tow boat, safe towing of skiers, effective driving techniques, equipment maintenance, regulations and standards. Mountain Bike Ride LeaderCourse led by International Mountain Bicycling Association. This course offers hands-on training to prepare students for leading rides and mountain bike guiding in a group situation with an introduction to instruction. Camp Food Service and Maintenance ConferencesFor staff and directors involved with food service delivery and property maintenance at a camp.
