The proposal is submitted to a person who is entirely involved with the development of the tool, GISMO which needs to be enhanced. GISMO is based on Java Applet. It is a nice tool to generate report using charts for the instructor of a course to have an idea about the course. He is concerned with how the interaction between GISMO and Moodle can be optimized so that it can play much more significant role in understanding the social, cognitive and behavioural aspects of students. Moreover, he possesses expertise about current and future trend of students’ performance monitoring software.

GISMO
A graphical interactive student monitoring and tracking system tool
Entirely based on Java Applet Generates reports retrieving data from
Shortcomings from technical point of view Programmer dependency More efforts for little changes Adaptability/interoperability problem Exception handling Version Incompatibility High server load
Updating and redesigning the Gismo tool
Technological-Design (1/2)
Possible solutions Data representation in a standard
format and retrieval of data using a simple parser.
Knowledge of XML data is sufficient for any modification.
Standard interface for retrieving XML data.
Updating and redesigning the Gismo tool
Technological-Design (2/2)
Error handling using standard Document Type Definition (DTD).
Increasing server utilization by pulling XML data and generating charts in client side.
