Entry-Level CRT Projectors

Back to the Products Index ...

Updated: November 24, 2009

Questions or want to buy? See the Contact Us page. We accept PayPal in addition to money orders and bank transfers. One year warranty on new tubes, six months on used tubes, and 90 days on the chassis (though I'm pretty liberal with the chassis warranty!).  See our Shipping Information page for shipping prices.

Entry-level CRT projectors are perfect for the individual that wants to add high quality video to their home theater but doesn't necessarily want to break the bank with the latest and greatest CRT projector.  Entry-Level CRT projectors offer the following features:

7" and 8" tube sizes with light output usually in the 600-800 lumen range Electrostatic focus

Analog or digital convergence (depending on model)

Capable of displaying 1080i (HDTV) resolution (Video grade units excluded), some will do 720p as well

Most are smaller in size to the Intermediate/High Performance counterparts

Blu-ray, HD DVD and other HDMI devices can be connected to these projectors by adding HDfury or Moome cards/converters.

More information on these features and what they mean is available in the CRT Primer, including our Hooking it all up FAQ.

All of these projectors are perfectly suited for home theater use (satellite/cable TV and DVD playback), and most will display 1080i high definition TV (HDTV) as well. All have been thoroughly tested and many have had modifications done to them to increase reliability.

Be forewarned that the words 'Entry-Level' can be a bit misleading!  These projectors are tagged as 'Entry-Level' simply because newer and better models are available. These are all commercial/professional grade projectors that often originally sold for $10K and up!

For some example screenshots of one of these 'entry-level' projectors, please visit this post in our forum.  They were taken by the webmaster on his 26K hour (yes, 26,000 hours) Barco 800 bought from me back in 2000.

Barco 'Special'   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

These are older 7" ES focusing sets with analog convergence. These sets were originally installed into Boeing jets for the in-flight movies in the 80s. I normally don’t sell these sets due to the tubes being bad, but these two appear to have very little use on them as the tubes are perfect with good light emission and decent focus. They are video only sets and are best suited for a 72” screen or similar, don’t expect to peel the wallpaper off the walls with these sets, but as a set to play with or for the kids to play videogames on, this is a good little set. I figure these are rated at 450 lumens or so, they have analog convergence and are video only sets. They are small, lightweight and quiet. I’ll give minimal support for this set due to the age and price, but the set works and shows a decent image. This new one (I sold both Vstars) needs the coolant flushed on all tubes. It’s got gunk in it. The gunk is loose and floating, so a simple flush and coolant refill will fix this. Three prices: $50.00 as is, you flush the coolant out. $75.00 and I’ll supply enough coolant to do the tubes. $100.00 and I’ll flush the coolant for you. Note that this set has dual focus lenses as opposed to the Vstars, so it has better focusing than the Vstars.

Sony 10xx series   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

Page 3: ProductsForSale.doc.doc

Sony made a whole bunch of these projectors from about 1984 to 1996 or so. More info can be found in the CRT Primer. Generally these are video and S-video only sets, the 1031 can take line doublers with a custom cable, and can (barely) do 1080i. These sets are small, quiet and reliable. Spare parts are plentiful and the popular SD 187 tubes can be found in many other projectors out there. I’ll include ceiling brackets for these at no extra charge!

The Sony 10XX series are great little entry level sets. They feature 7" Sony tubes that are very reliable, and offer 600 or 750 lumens depending on whether you're getting the early or late version tubes. Analog convergence, very quiet operation and a small physical size make for a great pub unit for gaming for the kids or as an entry level set to see what the hype is all about with CRT projectors. In general, these sets are very reliable and are easy to set up. The Sony 1031 projectors can accept line doublers and 1080i HDTV signals, the rest have video and some have S-video input jacks depending on the model. The 1001 model is somewhat unique in that it is a late model (1996)10XX series with a wireless remote control. On screen menus and the brighter tubes make for a bit sharper picture than the other 10XX series.

I've got sets with near mint cases and some with cracks. Again, I've got enough tubes and parts so that I can more or less build you a set to suit based on your needs and budget. If you're building the set into a coffee table, then a cracked case isn't really an issue. If it's a set for the kids Xbox or Nintendo, then a bit of tube wear won't matter.

Zenith PRO 851 / Runco 750 HT   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

The Zenith PRO 851 (and other similar chassis) are what I consider to be the most popular CRT projector out there. It was cheap, super reliable, and it's convection cooling made it perfect for heavy smoking sports bar environments. You can have as much dust or dirt floating around in the ear (read NICOTINE!), and the sets will continue to function. The Pro 851 is a video only unit with one composite video input. 750 lumens from 7" tubes, modular construction, on screen menus, analog convergence. I've sold about 300 of these since 1985, and worked on 100's of others.

Ampro 2000   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

Very similar to the Electrohome ECP, and about the same age as the ECP 4100, these scan to 80 Khz (55Khz if data grade), have a wired remote, and have digital convergence for an easy set up. Very shallow sets, only 10" tall, so these are great for low ceilings.

Ampro 2000: I’ve got a decent set here that I’ll sell off cheaply as well. These are full data grade sets and will scan to 55 Khz scan rate, good to past 720p. RGB and video/S-video inputs. Wired remotes included. A slim set, only 10” tall makes it ideal for low ceilings. Good tubes in both sets. Lots of spare parts available for these. 600 lumens from SD 187 Sony tubes.

1 $250.00

Electrohome ECP series   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

THE ECP Series of sets are very popular, I've sold lots of them. The 3000 series scans to 55 Khz, the 4000 series to 80 Khz. 600 lumens from 7" Sony tubes. Modular, quiet, easy to set up. Dual RGB input modules come stock with these sets, I've got video and S-video boards as an option. Wireless remotes included.

Note: I've got ACON cameras available for the ECP series for $80.00 USD per camera and PC board. I've got about 6 tested units in stock. I've also got lots of RGB input boards and virtually every other part in stock for these.

ECP-3000: I’ll still be selling the ECP 3100 and later model sets, but I have one great condition ECP 3000 that I’ll blow out here. This is similar to the Ampro 2000 above. 55 Khz scan rate. RGB, video and S-video inputs, wireless remote, Great condition Sony SD 187 tubes, digital convergence, on screen menus. Easy to set up and reliable. The focus mod has been done on this set, it’s a great performer.

1 $300.00

ECP-3100: This set is in great working shape. All tubes in good condition The sets have all mods done to them (focus resistor, cleaning of module contacts and reseating of chips) and the cases are in really good shape.

Barco Data:  Great shape - fully tested!  These use the Sony SD 130 tubes, and this set has ZERO wear. Heck, at this price, buy the set and I’ll pull the tubes out if you want to use them in other later model sets like Ampros or ECPs. Lots of brightness out of this set, and all functions work fine. It’s got RGB inputs only, I’ve tested it with a line doubler and it puts out a really nice picture.

2 $100.00

Barco Data 400:  A trade in that I sold 3 years ago, the customer upgraded to an ECP with digital convergence. This set will scan to 720p, the tubes are in good shape, what more do you need for an entry level set... :) RGB inputs only, so add a transcoder or a line doubler, and you're ready to go!

1 $100.00

Barco Data 600:  Another analog model, slightly later vintage than the Data above. It will scan to 42 Khz, so it will lock to a 1080i HDTV signal. Again, tubes in decent shape.

1 $100.00

Great 8" set, very easy to set up.  Similar in performance to the Sony 125x/127x series. The data series scans to 58Khz, the Graphics to 92Khz.  Both have digital convergence, and on screen menus.  I always do all of the mods required to these sets to ensure long term reliability. 825 lumens from 8" Sony tubes.

Barco Graphics 801: Good to 92 Khz scan rate, tubes in great shape, minimal blue wear, none on the R and G. Case in good shape as well.

Sony 125x/127x series   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

All projectors have digital convergence, on screen menus, come with a wireless remote, and I back the sets as I do any others. The performance of all 12XX series sets are quite similar, with the 1252 and 1272's being the newest models.

OK, I just got about 10 more of these sets in as listed below. All have good cases and come with a universal remote. I’m blowing these out, see the Tube Conditions below. Note that I do have other good used blue and green tubes that I will drop into the worst ones, and I’ll update this list as I do. I am listing the worn tube units as there might be some of you that have good tubes but a dead set, and that would be an inexpensive way to get a set running.

Barco 70x series / Runco DTV-947   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

The 70X series are great little machines, and is one of the smallest case sizes out there for a data grade set. Video, S-video and RGB inputs. Digital convergence, near silent operation, on screen menus, very easy to set up.

The Data 701 scans to 50 Khz, making it good to past line tripling and 750 lumens from Sony 7" tubes.  The Data 701s has the same specs but with 1000 lumen Toshiba tubes and an added component input.

The 708 is the latest version in the 70X series with some upgrades to the chassis. It's also about 2 years newer than the 701s.

Barco Data 701s: Two units here that are in great shape. Both have good original tubes. Brighter tubes than in the Barco 700 and 701, these put out 1000 lumens. These scan to 64Khz and are small and quiet units.

1 $800.00

Runco DTV-947: 2500 original hours on this set, a new green tube was installed, zero wear on the tubes overall. A great 1080i/720p set. Very small footprint, very quiet, has all the features of a larger Barco with digital convergence, but in a smaller package. 1000 lumens, easy to set up.

1 $2000.00

DWIN 500/700   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

Page 9: ProductsForSale.doc.doc

These use the same tubes and lenses as the Barco 708/Runco DTV 947 above, but are slightly smaller than the 70X chassis and are quieter as they only contain one tiny fan in the power supply that can’t be heard when you're more than 3 feet away from the set, making it essentially silent. 1000 lumens from very sharp P16 tubes, these sets have an RGB input only and lock to 1024p. A great 1080i/720p set.

Note: I've gotten really good at repairing these PRO 900x sets. I've got virtually all parts in stock for these units...

Intermediate Level CRT Projectors

Back to the Products Index ...

Updated: November 24, 2009

Questions or want to buy? See the Contact Us page. We accept PayPal in addition to money orders and bank transfers. One year warranty on new tubes, six months on used tubes, and 90 days on the chassis (though I'm pretty liberal with the chassis warranty!).  See our Shipping Information page for shipping prices.

Intermediate Level CRT projectors are a step up from the Entry-Level projectors. They offer the following advantages over the Entry-Level projectors in a home theater environment:

8" and 9" tube sizes for increased light output (usually in the 1000-1200 lumen range) Sharper (most have electromagnetic focus instead of electrostatic focus)

Most have digital convergence for easier setup

Capable of displaying both 720p and 1080i (HDTV) resolutions (as all are data or graphics grade), many will do 1080p as well

Some add liquid-coupled (LC) optics for better contrast ratio and less halo'ing

Blu-ray, HD DVD and other HDMI devices can be connected to these projectors by adding HDfury or Moome

Page 12: ProductsForSale.doc.doc

cards/converters.

More information on these features and what they mean is available in the CRT Primer, including our Hooking it all up FAQ.

All of these projectors are perfectly suited for home theater use (satellite/cable TV and DVD playback), and will display 720p and 1080i high definition TV (HDTV) extremely well. All have been thoroughly tested and many have had modifications done to them to increase reliability. These are all commercial/professional grade projectors that often originally sold for $20K and up!

The Intermediate Level of CRT projectors currently represent the 'sweet spot' in the price/performance ratio for home theater use.

For some example screenshots of one of these 'intermediate-level' projectors running at 1080p, see this post in our CRT Projector discussion forum.  They were taken on a Marquee 8500 fitted with HD144 lenses by using special adapter plates to give the projector better colour and focus.

Curious how one of these CRT projectors stacks up against others? Check out our Projector Rankings page to see exactly how the different units compare in terms of performance in a home theater environment!

NEC PG series   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

A step up from the electrostatic focusing sets, these are EM focus sets that scan to 60 Khz for the 6 Pg, 90 Khz for the 9 PG. 800 lumens from 7 1/2" tubes. The 6 PG sets are equipped with an RGB input, the 9 PG's with a video and S-video jack as well as the RGB input. Many of you know that NEC's are my personal favourite projector for fleshtones. c/w wireless remote. Perfect for use with a computer or a line doubler/ tripler.

The 'PG+' sets added astigmatism control to the set, which gives better side and corner focus over the plain PG series. The picture and specs are otherwise the same.

The 'PG Xtra' sets are one slight step down from the NEC XG series and a step up from the PG + series, these sets put out 1000 lumens. If you're looking for a top performer in a relatively small package, this is the projector to get. Greatly underrated and often overlooked in my opinion..:) These sets give a very punchy picture with super nice fleshtones.

Barco 808 series   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

As mentioned in my CRT Primer, the basic performance of the BD 808, BD 808s and BG 808 are about the same, as all use 8" MEC tubes. The BG 808s uses non rebuildable Sony tubes, so unless these BG 808s sets come in with very good condition tubes, I scrap the sets. Right now, the Sony tubes for the BG 808s sets are $1300.00 USD each, but I'm working on a modification for these.

All of these sets are 8" EM focus sets, 1200 lumens, have digital convergence, on screen menus, wireless remotes, and are very easy to set up. I do the power supply modifications, and I've had great success shipping these all over the world. 75 Khz scan rate out of the Data models, 110 Khz out of the Graphics ones.

Barco Data 808:  Mint condition, case in great shape, zero tube wear. 1 $1800.00

Barco Graphics 808s:  I’ve got about 10 left of the 29 that I bought back in January. I’m getting rave reviews from customers that have already purchased these, 1080p isn’t a problem with these sets, and people switching from a lower end Barco Data 808 say the image of these is quite a step up due to the newish tubes. Pricing varies depending on tube condition, from good to mint.

Barco Cine 8: Very hard to find, the latest version of the Barco G808s. This set has been modified to take the more commonly found Panasonic tubes over the Sony's. P16 tubes installed throughout, which are step above the Panasonic DVB tubes as far as resolution and focusing goes. All new tubes, zero wear of course, razor sharp, great for 1080p.

Barco 1000 / 1001 / 1500 / 1600   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

These are ES focusing 9" LC sets with analog convergence. 1200 lumens, super bright! These use the hard to find Sony SD 146A tubes also used in the Ampro 4000 models. I will sell these complete with road cases or will part them out if you just need boards or tubes. It is a good way to get into a high resolution 9" sets for far less than the newer 9" LC sets sell for.

Barco Data 1001:  I've got one of these sets in excellent shape. These use the Sony 9" ES focusing tubes, and are analog convergence but will scan to above 1080i or 42 Khz. I'll throw in some spare modules for these as I've scrapped some of the sets I had here.  Very cheap at $400 each. These will give a very bright image for any SD or HD signal. Very low hours on the tubes, these came from an A/V rental company that had them in storage most of the time.

Electrohome Marquee 8xxx series   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

Basically, all Marquees are very similar in performance. All 8XXX series (non LC models) use the same 8" EM focusing tubes. Very similar in set up to the Barcos in general, these sets are quiet. Not as long as the Barco's in size, they are about 3" taller than the Barco series. Very modular in construction, and super reliable. Video, S-video and RGB inputs.

Here's the breakdown:

Marquee 8000: 1000 lumens. Circa 1994-1995.Marquee 8110: 1200 lumens. Circa 1995-1998.Marquee 8500: 1200 lumens. Circa 1995-1998. (Adds astig controls that the 8000 and 8110 do not include, for slightly better corner focus).

The 8500LC model adds liquid coupled tubes for even better contrast ratios and less halo'ing.

I do all of the mods (including anamorphic squeeze mod and the power supply mods) required to make the Marquees more versatile and reliable. I've sold lots of these in the past with great results.

I've also got a slew of new Marquee sets in as below, with more on the way. Now, here's the scoop. I have a LOT of good used tubes for these sets. I will drop pricing significantly based on the actual tube condition. Also as a bonus, the new tubes are indeed NEW for the next short while, while I use up the supply of NEW tubes that I have. I've got buckets and buckets of Marquees in stock, with more coming in.

Ampro 3300:  This set is in really good shape. The green and red tubes are original and in great shape, I've put in one of those sharp new P16 tubes for the blue. This is a later model 3300 (I see no difference between it and the 3600, the remote and menus are the same, and with the price here, this is a great way to get into a higher end 8" EM focusing set without spending the big bucks). 1200 lumens, 105 Khz scan rate, 1080p capable, late model wired remote included.

Ampro 3600:  Light tube wear, new arrival, 8000+ hours out of this set. Cheep! 1 $1000.00

Ampro 3600 retro chassis:  This is a super sharp chassis as used in the Ampro rear projection sets. LC lenses with HD lenses on it, good for up to a 72” diagonal set. 8” tubes, 1200 lumens, zero tube wear. Good working shape.

Barco 1208 series   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

This is a step up from the 808 series, it has a higher scanning rate and video bandwidth.  Originally designed as a slightly higher end set than the Barco 808, the 1208 scans to 135 Khz, and has a bit more control over the image as compared to the 808 and other Barco models. The video chain has slightly higher bandwidth as compared to the 808 as well. The chassis is slightly larger than the 808, but is quiet and no taller than the 808.

Sony 1292   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

This was Sony's flagship set prior to the G90 being released. It uses the same tubes as the Ampro 4200 and Barco 1200. Razor sharp performance with full 9” tubes, 110 Khz scan rate, 1000 lumens digital convergence, similar to the easy to set up 125X and 127X Sony sets. This is another great way to get into a true 9” EM focusing set.

The 1200 was Barco's first entry into the 9" LC market. It used the same Sony 9" tubes as the Sony 1292 and Ampro 4200, and has the same basic chassis as the Barco 1208 or 1209. 1200 lumens, 135Khz scan rate.

The Ampro 4200 are full 9" EM focusing LC sets. These use the same tubes as the Sony 1292. 90 Khz scan rate, 1080p ready. 1000 lumens. These are a great inexpensive way to get into a 9" set. Sure, they don't have quite the focus of a G90, but they will outperform an 8" EM focusing set.

High Performance CRT Projectors

Back to the Products Index ...

Updated: November 24, 2009

Questions or want to buy? See the Contact Us page. We accept PayPal in addition to money orders and bank transfers. One year warranty on new tubes, six months on used tubes, and 90 days on the chassis (though I'm pretty liberal with the chassis warranty!).  See our Shipping Information page for shipping prices.

High Performance CRT projectors represent the pinnacle of CRT projector technology and are installed in home theaters where absolute video perfection is desired.  They offer the following advantages over the Intermediate Level projectors in a home theater environment:

High performance 8" and 9" tube sizes for increased light output (1200+ lumen range) and sharpness Even sharper still (all use electromagnetic focus and advanced magnetic/astig control)

Most have advanced digital convergence for easier setup

Capable of 720p, 1080i, and even 1080p (HDTV) resolutions and beyond (as most are graphics grade)

Most employ liquid-coupled (LC) optics for better contrast ratio

Blu-ray, HD DVD and other HDMI devices can be connected to these projectors by adding HDfury or Moome cards/converters.

More information on these features and what they mean is available in the CRT Primer, including our Hooking it all up FAQ.

These projectors represent the highest level of performance in home theater for current satellite/cable TV, HDTV, and DVD playback. They are also capable of resolving the highest resolution (1080p) that will be found on HD-DVD and Blu-ray discs. All have been thoroughly tested and many have had modifications done to them to increase reliability. These are all commercial/professional grade projectors that originally sold

Page 21: ProductsForSale.doc.doc

for $30K-40K+ and up!

The High Performance CRT projectors are best suited for home theaters with larger screen sizes or where the user wants the absolute best video display available.

If you're looking for an incredibly large and bright CRT projection system then BlendZilla is an option you may want to consider.

Curious how one of these CRT projectors stacks up against others? Check out our Projector Rankings page to see exactly how the different units compare in terms of performance in a home theater environment!

NEC XG series   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

All NEC XG projectors are true 1200 lumen 8" EM focus sets. Digital convergence, on screen menus, video, S-video and RGB inputs are stock, the component option is available on the NEC XG 852 models. 100 point convergence allows for super accurate convergence. The NEC has more control over the picture than other 8" sets, making a full set up a bit daunting, but when it's complete, you'll find it's well worth the effort. Smaller than most competing 8" sets, they've been very reliable, and I've sold lots.

Here's the breakdown:

XG 75: Scans to 75Khz (past 1080p).XG 85: Scans to 85Khz (and has component inputs!).XG 110: Scans to 110Khz.XG 135: Scans to 135Khz.

For home theater use, these models all behave very much the same.

'LC' models add liquid coupled tubes for better contrast ratios and less halo'ing.

NEC  10 PG   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

The NEC 10PG is an EM focus set.  1000 lumens super sharp. 92Khz scanrate. It is the only 9" LC colour filtered  set that NEC ever made. Based on the popular PG series of sets, but with the full 9" tubes. 1080p capable.  Those that own one of these (see my forum), swear by the picture. This set gives those nice NEC fleshtones that I love and with 9” tubes, the tubes will last forever. A great way to get into a silky smooth 9” set.

These are state of the art 9" sets, and cost $58K back in 1996-1998. Full 9" tubes, liquid coupled. 110 Khz scan rate. A lot of adjustments on the convergence and picture parameters, this set is on par with the Marquee 9500LC, Barco 1209s, and apparently the Sony G 90.

New glycol is in the tubes, as the old Ampro coolant tends to yellow over time. Superb condition overall, wired and wireless remotes included. 9” LC tubes.

Electrohome Marquee 9xxx series   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

State of the art 9" sets.  9" liquid coupled tubes. 135Khz and 1200 lumens with astig adjustments for perfect corner focus. Scheimpflug adjustments are stock on these units.

Very easy to set up. Not as long as most projectors, they are about 3" taller than the Barco series. Very modular in construction, and super reliable. Video, S-video and RGB inputs.

I do all of the mods (including anamorphic squeeze mod, the power supply/filament mods, and replace a bunch of parts on the video boards that commonly fail) required to make the Marquees more versatile and reliable.

Marquee 9500LC Ultra: Original less than 600 hour chassis, perfect, perfect, perfect. No wear on the tubes, high resolution lenses, great condition case. 1080p ready, can’t get better than this!

1 $6000.00

Vidikron Vision One/Marquee 9500LC Ultra: This set is identical to the Marquee 9500 LC Ultra with a year 2000 build date, with some extras. First off, I’ve added a Moome HDMI input card for 1080p plug and play. I’ve also added a red C lens. These red C lenses are now discontinued, so I managed to get a hold of three new ones, this set has one of them. Finally, the Vidikron set comes with a gorgeous piano black (or white) finish fibreglass case that added thousands to the original price of the set. The case is in really nice condition. I’ve got a foam lined large shipping case for this unit as well, that will protect the piano finish case well. Finally, I’m throwing a ceiling bracket into the deal! Remote and power cord included of course. Low chassis hours, this set was installed in a home theater, not used in a commercial application. Since I have a bit less into this set than normal, I’ll reduce the price of the unit significantly, and at $6000, this is one heck of a deal for state of the art 1080p performance! All three have new green tubes installed, zero wear on the R and B.

3 $6000.00

Madrigal Labs MP9: Same as the 9500 LC above, this set has a fancy case around it, along with a brand new green tube as the original had a bit of wear. All tubes are now in great shape, the set will last 10,000 hours +. Same specs as the other 9500s, 135Khz scan rate, 1300 lumens, 1080p ready. This set sold for over $60K when new. I’m selling this one for a mere $6000.00.

Sony G90   Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

3200x2560 resolution180Mhz bandwidth 180Khz max scanrate 9" tubes with advanced 6-pole beam correction 81 zones of convergence

The Cine 9 / 909 is rated #1 on our projector rankings list.

Runco DTV 1200: I have access to one more of these rare units and I now have some replacement parts in stock for these as well. The current model and the highest end Barco ever made. 9” tubes, a completely redesigned chassis with 180 Mhz video amplifiers. Here’s the scoop:

This set is the equivalent of a Barco Cine 9, but with the case painted black, and red and green colored C elements installed for more accurate color reproduction over the original Cine 9. . The original hour count was 2700 hours on this one owner set, but I’ve put in another controller board, so the hour count reads under 1000. The set had light wear on the tubes, so I’ve put in a brand new set of super sharp LUG tubes. This set works and acts as new, at a fraction of the original $60,000 price tag. Original remote included. HFQ-900 lenses. An all digital chassis makes these sets more stable compared to other CRT projectors.

These prices are lower than I’ve seen advertised before for 909 projectors, especially with no tube wear. Grab them while you can!

Startech scaler/transcoder (Identical to the Audio Authority 1365): I've switched from the AA 9A65 to the AA 1365 that is actually a mini scaler to convert component to RGB signals. It handles up to 720p input, and will output up to 1024p. It acts as a reverse transcoder as well, it will convert RGB to component signals. Note: The Startech version sold here comes with a plastic wall bracket, an AC adapter with various US/European connectors on it as seen above.

On screen menus walk you through the setup, and allow control over brightness and contrast, tint and color saturation. This is a lot more than what the AA 9A65 did.

XBox360 'red ring of death' repair service: As is well documented on the internet, the Xbox 360 consoles have been plagued with the 'red ring of death' or RROD failure. This causes the machine to shut down completely, and the power/diagnostic LEDs on the front of the 360 console turn red.

To be perfectly upfront, Microsoft is repairing these under warranty, and on July 5, 2007 announced that the red ring of death problem will be covered for 3 years from the date of purchase, and they will repair this problem/partial design flaw. So why am I offering the repair as well, you might ask? Well, as it turns out, the turnaround time for

Microsoft can be anywhere from 3-8 weeks depending on the repairs required. In addition, if your Xbox 360 has been opened already and the Microsoft tamperproof sticker has been removed or altered, Microsoft will not even look at your machine! So for those that have hacked into the unit, Microsoft will not repair these machines, period. I’ve also heard that at least some of the returned consoles that were repaired under warranty have failed again shortly after being received from being repaired at Microsoft.

I therefore offer the following:

I will repair the red ring of death (RROD) problem for $80.00 USD (Canadian at par!) if you pick up and drop off at my shop, or $99.00 USD/CAD incl return shipping if you ship it in.

Turnaround time is typically 2 business days, including me running your unit for 12 hours after I repair it to make sure the repair is solid. I’ve repaired about 12 of these machines so far, and all are working fine.

All I need is the console itself. I don't need the power supply, games, controllers or hard drive.

Other problems that do not display the red ring of death, such as 'audio works but the screen is blank' can also be caused by the same cure that repairs the more common red ring of death.

What we do when we repair the red ring of death:

Install a fan mod so that the CPU fan is at full speed. This increases the noise of the

XBox slightly, but the internals of the box run a lot cooler, extending the life of your XBox 360.

Enhance the heat sink mounting method so that the main PC board does not flex.

Install new heat sinking compound that has superior properties to the original compound.

Test run your machine for 12 hours to ensure long life out of the repair.

Note that I cannot repair other Xbox 360 faults at this point such as intermittent reading of discs, bad power supplies, controllers, etc, but I perhaps will in the future.Send me an email if you want to send your Xbox 360 in for repair. If you're shipping it to me, make sure to follow these instructions.

Need to re-repair your Xbox360? See our instructions for the most common re-occurring problem yourself to save time!

SVGA to 5 BNC breakout cables: I’ve got a great source for high quality 5’ molded breakout cables. These are surprisingly well shielded cables (I’ve cut one apart) with heavy duty molded ends. I use these all the time instead of making up custom cables; I’ve found that many custom built SVGA cables are very flimsy at the SVGA connector end, resulting in intermittent signals. For longer runs, I use one of these short SVGA to BNC cables, then use female to female couplers to couple the BNC ends to longer custom built BNC to BNC cables. If the SVGA end ever breaks, you only need to replace the short cable and not the entire expensive long one.

$25.00 each

Custom cables with BNC or RCA connectors: I’ve now purchased the proper crimpers and crimps ends to make high caliber 5 RCA to RCA or 5 BNC to BNC cables, custom built to whatever length you need. The manufacturer claims that the crimps are solid enough so that the cable will break before the crimp does. The cable is great Belden YR 46942 as found here (140K PDF). I’ve run lengths up to 160’ in SVGA mode with minimal losses noted.

$3.00/foot for 5 runs of RGB Belden cable.

Plus $50 for 10 crimp-on ends, either BNC or RCA and heat-shrink at the

breakout point.

Sony 1270 switchers: I've got about 5 of these switchers here. 8 inputs, modular construction so that you can add extra input modules at will. I'll sell the bare switchers at $50.00 each with no input cards. I've got rack ears for some at no extra charge.
