Synopsis & Treatment

Who am i? Who are You? is a 5 piece photographic piece about what represents women within their own beliefs. The photography will convey just one person but show their beliefs within 5 photographs. In order to portray her beliefs I will Research Feminism and how women today and back in the late 30s/40s.

In terms of shooting these photographs I will have a white backdrop that could portray purity. These photographs will be portrait and depending on how these photographs will turn out I’m considering have these photographs edited in black and white as this could become a very effective piece in black and white. Researching a few similar ideas of what feminism is and what it represents could be a good way to start my project.

Research & Inspiration

ResearchFeminism is a political movement that share a common goal which is the beliefs that everyone especially women should have the same rights everyone else does (men).Rights for women included women being able to pursue and establish equal opportunities for women in education and in employment.

Feminist movements have continued to campaign throughout the years and especially the right for women to vote, to work and to earn equal pay. Although these actions were the most common in women’s rights another right was to protect women and girls from rape, domestic abuse and violence and sexual harassment. Charles Fourier (a French philosopher) coined the word féminisme in 1837, however it did not start till in France and the never lands till 1872. Feminism did not start in Great Britain till 1890 and in 1910 feminism started in the untied states of America. However the first appearance of feminism was in 1852, in which all movements goals was to obtain that women should be considered as feminism movements.

In the late 19th century and the early 20th century an organisation called the suffragettes was formed in which advocated the right for women to vote. Emmeline Pankhurst was the most memorable activist in England “she shaped an idea of women for our time; she shook society into a new pattern from which there could be no going back."Emmeline Pankhurst made the feminist act more approachable in which after her death the right for women to vote became more acceptable in which because of Emmeline Pankhurst now in the 21st century women are able to vote.

Inspiration

The inspiration to produce this piece was the thought of how far we have come today and how far women have come since the right for women to vote.

Although this is not how I want to shoot my photography the choice of text wording is what inspired me the most by researching feminism photography.

Another movement was the civil rights movement, which became well known for the Baptist minister Martin Luther king JR in which he helped within the segregation between white and black people and the inequality between the two in which he is commonly known for his I have a dream speech.

Lighting

Page 9: Production Pack

This is how I hope to position the lighting however it will be with a white background.

Page 10: Production Pack

I Really like this style of lighting within the model and the whole composition so this is a great example on how I will position and composite my own photographic piece.

If I style the model perfectly in the way she is positioned this could be approached as the way this style inspires me.

This lighting style is a really good contrast, however I do not like some parts of the face are shadowed out in which I do not wish to do .

I think the way light balances off her face is a great contrast however I feel like this distracts us from the other side of her face and how you can’t see half o0f it
