Previous Example

Page 3: Production of flyers

This an example of a previous flyer that was created by the organisation that my client works for. The flyer was created a year ago, however it looks quite old due to its poor quality images and general design. The lighting of the images are off and they clash together, the images and text are not colour coordinated well either because there are so many different colours that looking at the flyer can be confusing, there are also a lot of different text styles and fonts that are tricky to read, but it also makes different text seem out of place giving the flyer an unprofessional look to it because some of the text has an eroded look where as the logos and title are in different fonts, the title itself is very complex with its two toned text as well as the use of a sharp lightning esc font. It looks like the flyer was targeted at a younger audience who would care about the design but more about the holiday itself.

XCiTE Flyer (Final Piece)

This is my final piece for one of the two flyers, in my personal opinion I think that this is the best looking flyer out of the two, this is because mainly because of the specific design of the flyer and the font used for the title. The font I used for this flyer was bold and bouncy which represents the target audience as well as being fit for purpose. The specific design of the flyer is nicer in this flyer because the flyer is split up evenly in 4 pieces whereas the other flyer is split up evenly apart from one section which is marginally larger than the other images however this XCiTE flyer has got continuation with the sizes of all the images. Another part of the design that I like is the colour scheme, the choice of green not only matches with the organisations website, but it also contrasts well with the images. Green is normally seen as a childish colour because a lot of products advertised at children mainly feature the colour green, which is also the colour that is linked to the outdoors which is fit well for a flyer that advertises an adventure holiday. Finally an aspect of this flyer that makes it better than the other flyer I created is that the text in the coloured text box fix better in the XCiTE flyer than it does in the XPLoRE flyer. I believe that this flyer met the brief set by the client, this is because it covers all the information that was mentioned on the brief, both specific requirements and personal preferences and as time went by the brief grew more expansive with improvements set by the client and the organisation. These improvements were made as soon as possible, and have paid off because the organisation have used the flyers for advertisement on social media pages such as Facebook and Instagram. This shows that I reflected on all the feedback that was given, people from the organisation and the target audience complimented the flyer and that’s where they would ask for some small changes and improvements. The only problem with this flyer is that some of the images that I used had a lot of diluted colours which made the flyer look like it didn’t have any life to it, to fix this issue I changed the saturation and the brightness on the images to make them more vibrant.

XPLoRE Flyer (Final Piece)

This is my final piece for the second of the two flyers I was told to create, in my opinion I think that this flyer is not as appealing as the other flyer that I created, however I still believe that it fits the clients wants and needs. The reasons why I don’t think this flyer is as good as my other final piece is because of the design work and the text used, the design work for the flyer is similar to my other final piece which means that there is some continuation between the two designs. Unlike the XCiTE flyer which is split up evenly throughout the whole flyer, the XPLoRE flyer is split up evenly until the bottom half of the flyer where all the text is which is significantly larger than all the other images that make up the flyer. Another reason why this flyer is not as good as the XCiTE flyer is because the font used for the title, it is suitable enough to work with the flyer and the target audience however I do not think that it works as well as the title used in the XCiTE flyer. The flyer does have some good points as well, I like the choice of images that were selected to be placed on the flyer, they are a good representation of the holiday and show people having fun which is the main objective for the flyers. Another positive aspect of the flyer is the information section of the flyer in general, the colours used for the background triangle looks very nice and works well with the title, and the text inside the triangle has a nice fit with the shape and is well spaced out.

Communication with ClientMost of the communication that was done with my client was through vocal discussions that we would have about once a week when I would visit him at his place of work. At this point we would go through the brief and I would continue production of the work whilst he observed and gave improvements along the way, because of this I was able to finish the production of the flyer quicker than I had scheduled. Some of the communication was done via email, this allowed me to have a documented note of the improvements that I was told to make, this means that I do not have to try and remember what was said during the meetings with the client. Personally I preferred having vocal communications with my client because it was easier and quicker to talk about improvements, it was also a lot more laid back than emailing, however even though talking via email takes a lot more time, it also means that the conversations are documented for future purposes so if needed I could go back and see if there were any more improvements that needed doing.

Legal, Regulatory, and Financial issues

I did not face any legal, regulatory and financial issues during production however there were multiple points when I was developing the flyers when I could have faced these issues. I could have faced legal issues when choosing my photos because the subjects in them were under 18, however because I took the photos from the organisations website I did not have to get parental consent because the organisation would have already got it when they wanted to take the photos in the first place. I could have faced regulatory issues again when choosing my images and fonts, however all the images I used were from the organisations website meaning that I could use them as I was creating promotional material for them, the fonts that I downloaded from the internet were 100% free so I didn’t have to pay for them or ask the creator if I could use them. Finally, I could have faced financial issues during the time of production however I cycled to the client meetings which meant I didn’t have to pay for transport, and I had all the equipment provided by college which means I didn’t have to pay for a new laptop or Photoshop.
