We have designed Valencia so that it can be used as stand alone or fitted together using the Linx System. The Linx System allows our popular 620mm semi-countertop base unit and 700mm, 800mm and 1000mm vanity base units, with their practical slab top style basins, to be incorporated into runs of furniture alongside floorstanding storage units and our back to wall WC units. Things to consider

• One of the essential requirements for a fully fitted look are continuous worktops and plinths. A variety of sizes of each are available; it is important that the correct sizes are selected for each installation.

• Plinths can be cut down when used in a run with a back to wall WC unit by concealing the joint behind the WC pan.

• Worktops are provided on the 300mm floor units, however, this is a painted finish rather than laminated and is more suited to stand alone configurations. If used in a run of furniture you may prefer to order a 624mm worktop and cut to size. Additional edge strips are provided with all worktops to allow edges to be neatly trimmed. When planning your installation, pipework runs are an essential consideration.

ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATION

Lighting canopies – All canopies include shaver/electric toothbrush socket. Lighting canopies can only be fitted to Valencia mirrors.

Electrical specification – Valencia lighting canopies with shaver sockets and heated mirror pads have been designed and independently tested for compliance to British Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1994. Standards applicable are: BS EN60598-2-6:1995, BS EN60742:1996, BS EN61558-2-5:1998 and BS EN60335-2-30:1997. Lighting canopies are Class II double insulated - no earth connection required. Canopies are supplied with 500mm cable and should be connected to a fused 3 amp supply. Electrical connections should be made according to national wiring regulations. Installation by a competent electrician is advised. Canopies are suitable for use in bathrooms - but should not be used in a sauna or shower cubicle. Canopies should not be located where they will be directly splashed by shower spray, or such that they can be operated by someone whilst in the bath. Valencia lights use low voltage halogen (12 volt, 20 watt) type G4.

Shaver socket – Suitable for shavers and rechargeable toothbrushes. Maximum power output 20VA. The shaver socket is switched independently to the lights. It is recommended that the shaver socket is switched off when not in use.

Heated mirror pads – Operated automatically when the canopy lights are switched on using the IR sensor. No additional electrical connections are required.

TMV2 – the safe choiceTMV stands for thermostatic mixing valves which are a safeguard against accidental scalding. TMV2 is the standard for domestic use. You can be assured that your Roper Rhodes valve has been engineered to the highest manufacturing standards, and many of our valves have been certified by the TMV2 scheme for domestic showers or tested to an equivalent standard. Extensive mechanical testing is carried out independently by Build Cert, a Notified Certification Body, who test for compliance with the TMV scheme. Scald preventionSudden changes in hot or cold water supply can lead to injury through scalding or shock. The patented thermostatic cartridge within all Roper Rhodes valves maintains the selected temperature during showering. Also, in the event of a sudden loss of either the hot or cold water pressure, the shower valve will automatically shut down, therefore reducing the risk of injury.

Thermostatic showeringAll Roper Rhodes shower valves are thermostatic, allowing you to set and maintain your chosen maximum temperature.

Accurate temperature controlShowering with water that is too hot can cause scalding. To ensure the temperature of the water is maintained at a safe level the thermostatic cartridge continuously monitors and adjusts the mixed water temperature to within 1.5˚C, ensuring a comfortable and safe showering experience. Maximum temperatureTo guarantee that the valve temperature cannot exceed the safe temperature of 44˚C, the temperature control is fitted with a safety stop mechanism. When it comes to our taps there are many features to choose from. We have therefore developed a series of useful icons to help you choose the right one for you. Look out for the icons on each page to help you identify which features apply to each tap range.

LOW PRESSURE 1Taps with this symbol are suitable for all plumbing systems including conventional gravity fed ones with a minimum 0.1 bar pressure and above.

HIGH PRESSURETaps with this symbol require a minimum pressure of 0.5 bar or above and are more suitable for modern pressurised plumbing systems.

LEVER ACTIONThe single lever action, makes it extremely easy and practical to use.

TEMPERATURE CONTROLA great safety feature for all the family, particularly useful should unsupervised young children be likely to use the taps. Designed to limit the temperature of mixed water by restricting handle movement. Taps are supplied with the limiter in the fully open position, but can be easily adjusted prior to installation.

CERAMIC TECHNOLOGYTaps with this symbol have a smooth, easy-to-use action giving accurate flow control. Quarter turn ceramic taps only require a 90° turn of the handle to move from fully open to closed.

WATER PRESSURE AND FLOW RATES EXPLAINEDPlumbing systems can sometimes suffer from poor flow rates. The UK is unique in that many homes are still using the more traditional, low pressure plumbing systems. This type of system is referred to as gravity fed, and is most commonly found in older properties. Often tap manufacturers provide products more suitable for the mainland European market, which tend to use modern high pressure plumbing systems. This raises problems as it conflicts with the low pressure plumbing systems most commonly found within a lot of the homes within the UK. For this reason it is not unusual to have a disappointing flow rate when using taps.

At Roper Rhodes we have identified this problem and resolved it by engineering our taps so that many of them are suitable for use with low pressure systems. To help you identify which taps are suitable for low pressure systems, we have created LP1, LP2 and LP3 symbols which are denoted beside each tap type.

More recently built or renovated homes will often incorporate modern pressurised plumbing systems, and under these circumstances satisfactory flow rates are possible regardless of the type of tap fitted.

In order to help identify your own plumbing system and select the right range of taps for you, please read on.

When you see the following symbols:

Taps with a HP symbol require a minimum pressure of 0.5 bar* or above

Taps with a LP1 symbol require a minimum pressure of 0.1 bar* or above

Low pressure systems These are more conventional types of plumbing systems, often referred to as gravity fed and are most commonly found in older properties. Typically, you may have a cold water tank in your loft and a gravity fed hot water cylinder in your airing cupboard. Cold water usually varies in supply from either the mains, or supply from the cold water tank, this also affects the pressure and flow rate of your water supply. If you have a gravity fed system, you must consider the issue of pressure, and the head of water (in metres) dictates the amount of pressure you can achieve in your plumbing system. There is a selection of taps suitable for this type of system and are identified in this brochure with the LP1, LP2 and LP3 symbols.

If you are unsure, we recommend you seek professional advice from your plumber who will advise you on the type of plumbing system you have and the likely water pressures it can achieve. If pressures are too low even for our low pressure (LP) taps, you will be able to increase your water pressure using a suitable water pump, and again your plumber can advise you on this.

High pressure systemsA typical high pressure system is where you may have a combination boiler, which heats water on demand. Another example is an unvented supply system where water is stored under pressure in a large cylinder. In both of these instances there should be sufficient pressure to give you an adequate flow rate with all our tap ranges.

Installation, connections and flexible supply hosesAll of our taps are simple to install by either a competent DIYer or a qualified plumber. All connections use standard BSP (British Standard Pipe) sizing. Our range of basin mixers are supplied with high quality 350mm long stainless steel braided flexible hoses with 15mm compression fittings for easy installation.

Chrome plating Repeated and extensive polishing operations followed by the highest standards in chrome plating ensure that our taps will stay looking good for many years to come.

Ceramic disc / ceramic cartridge technologyAll Roper Rhodes taps incorporate the latest highly reliable

ceramic cartridge and ceramic disc valve technology. These precision components are all supplied by vastly experienced specialist manufacturers.

Inspire, Wessex, Reef, Bora and Aero ranges feature quarter turn ceramic disc valves. These provide a rapid and easy to use on/off action when compared to conventional valves.

Designed for low pressure – Hydra, Fresh, Paradox, Factor, Insight, Stream, Storm and Neo taps are fitted with a special low pressure ceramic cartridge that allows not only a simple to use hot, cold or mixed flow but enables both the flow rate and temperature to be limited if required. Temperature limiter adjustmentTemperature limiters can be used to prevent possible scalding from excessively hot water. The maximum temperature on Hydra, Fresh, Paradox, Factor, Insight, Stream, Storm and Neo taps can be adjusted to six different settings, allowing the maximum temperature to be reduced by as much as 50%.

Flow limiters help save water, making them kinder on the environment. They are also particularly useful in houses where water pressures are very high causing splashing when the tap is turned on. Flow rates on Hydra, Fresh, Paradox, Factor, Insight, Stream, Storm and Neo taps can be adjusted to three different settings, allowing the maximum flow to be reduced by as much as 25%. For further ways to save water please see our range of add on-regulators and aerators opposite.

Flow rate adjustment

At Roper Rhodes we take our responsibility to the environment seriously, and have developed a variety of ways to help save water and energy, when it comes to our brassware.

A number of our taps feature built in flow and temperature limiters.

Hydra, Fresh, Paradox, Factor, Insight, Stream, Storm and Neo taps are supplied with cartridges that can be adjusted to limit water flow and temperature. Adjustments can be made during installation or at anytime later.

Shower & tap regulatorsOur range of shower and tap flow regulators provide you with the opportunity to save water and energy. Regulators help maintain a constant flow of water regardless of variations in pressure. Aerators introduce air into the water stream to produce a larger stream that is soft to the touch and non-splashing. See overleaf for more details.

Two distinct designs in three striking finishes – oak, walnut and brilliant white. Choice and style is always paramount, whatever your storage requirements.

Please note: the product must be mounted a minimum of 150mm from an adjacent wall/surface or obstruction to ensure correct function of the infrared sensor. FEATURES FOR ALL CLARITY MIRRORS*

Heated demister pad All the mirrors within the Clarity range (apart from Atom and Apollo)

have been fitted with heated demister pads, making steamy mirrors a thing of the past. The heated demister pad will heat the mirror to a few degrees above room temperature within 2-3 minutes, preventing the mirror from misting in even the steamiest of bathrooms. The demisting effect will spread approximately 10-20% further than the pad itself.

Infrared no touch on/off switchRoper Rhodes has also introduced a safe and easy to use infrared on/

off switch, enabling the user to activate the lighting without the need to touch the mirror.

Atom and Apollo are operated using a standard on/off pull cord.

IP44 All mirrors are IP44 water resistance rated and are suitable for use in

zone 2 and outside zones in the bathroom.

fluorescent back lighting. In addition, Escape, Opus, Velocity, Radiance and Equator mirrors feature ambient lighting. This low-key lighting effect casts a subtle glow over wall and basin, helping create a relaxing mood in your bathroom. Please refer to individual mirrors for details on their ambient lighting.

Tempus mirror clockThe Tempus mirror incorporates a digital clock. A subtle LED displays

the time in red – so now there’s no excuse for running late in the morning!

Recharging socketThe Radiance mirror incorporates 4 integrated storage shelves. A handy shaver/toothbrush socket on

the right hand side ensures all you need to get in the morning within easy reach.

The heated mirror pad energy consumption is approx. 0.046kw/h. LEDs have a life expectance of 60,000 hours in continuous use. All light fittings are replaceable and are available from Roper Rhodes Customer Service. These seats are manufactured from thermoset plastic (not to be confused with cheap polypropylene), a highly durable material capable of withstanding heavy household usage. Its strength and suitability as a material for toilet seats is down to the manufacturing process. The seat is heated under high pressure and then left to set, providing an extremely hardwearing and impact-resistant surface.

Anti-bacterial protectionAn environmentally friendly, built-in additive provides a hygienic finish which protects against bacteria, fungi and microbes. It works on impeding the spread of bacterial cultures on the surface of the seat and kills them at specific intervals.

Non slip, high strength, colour co-ordinated seat buffersBuffers on solid wood seats are made from co-injected nylon and rubber materials. The nylon core offers excellent strength against crushing whilst the colour co-ordinated rubber outer surface prevents slipping and seat movement. This, in turn, reduces the stresses placed upon the wood.

WOOD VENEERED OR PAINTED (MDF) SEATSThis type of seat differs from solid wood in that a layer of real wood veneer, or a high quality painted finish is applied to an MDF core. This core is extremely strong and gives a blend of beauty and strength. But although veneered seats are quite common, we recommend you check out the following features:

Water resistant finishAll our wooden seats are coated in hardwearing polyurethane varnish for a long lasting, hygienic finish. Thermoset plastic seats are naturally waterproof.

SOFT-CLOSING HINGESSoft-closing hinges are available with Glow, Stealth, Define, Zenith, Mercury, Juno, Elite, Curve, Infinity, Comet, Neutron, Origin, Jupiter and Traditional models of toilet seats. We have developed a soft-closing hydraulic hinge mechanism for controlled and quiet closure of the seat lid and ring.

This automatic closure mechanism is invisibly integrated into the hinge body (or in the case of Glow, Stealth, Define, Zenith, Mercury, Juno and Neutron, the seat body) so as not to interfere with the design of the seats, as well as ensuring the lid and ring can be closed gently and with minimum noise. A single fingertip touch is enough to trigger the mechanism. Soft-closing mechanisms are particularly handy in households with children and have been tested to 100,000 cycles, which is equivalent to approximately 50 years of use.

EXTREMELY STRONG HINGESRoper Rhodes has undertaken special metallurgical tests to ensure the strength of our seat hinges. All our standard hinges are made from solid brass, except for Infinity and Curve models, which feature a corrosion-resistant, stainless steel hinge mechanism.

TOP FIX HINGESThe special ‘top fix’ hinge on our Glow, Stealth, Define, Zenith, Mercury, Juno and Neutron seats allows them to be quickly and easily installed either from above the WC pan or from below in the conventional way.

‘NO CORRODE’ HINGESAll of our toilet seats feature corrosion-resistant hinges, with the exception of Malvern. Hinge corrosion – for so long the nemesis of toilet seats, has been banished forever. High quality chrome plated hinges (or stainless steel for standard Infinity, Curve and Comet models) feature stainless steel screws and our gold finish hinges are PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) coated – a tarnish and scratch resistant titanium coating.

CORNER POSTS One of the unique features of the range is the corner post, available in walnut, real wood veneer or gloss white finish. Corner posts enable panels to be adapted for use with 1800 x 800mm or 1700 x 750mm baths, as shown below. They are available in a height of 600mm, suitable for plinth installations, but can be cut down to suit your installation.

Corner posts can be used on all models that have this symbol.

PLINTHSMatching adjustable plinths are available to assist the installation and help achieve a perfect fit. Plinths can give you an additional height adjustment range of 120mm (max). Please note: plinths are not required for Uno, Signatures, Valencia or 800 Series as they are already supplied. Plinths are walnut veneered or white painted finish.

The Porto panel has been designed and independently tested for compliance to electrical equipment (Safety) regulations. Standards applicable to the Porto panel are; BS EN 60598 -1:2004 EN 60598 -2-1:1989 BS EN 60598 -2-2:1997 incl Amd1 BS EN 60529: 1993 incl Amd 1 and 2 to IP65. LED’s have a life expectancy of 60’000 hours continuous use. All Porto LED components are replaceable and are available from Roper Rhodes customer service. Fitting in bathrooms is subject to the appropriate location (Refer to IEE Regulations) The LED units when installed within the fitted bath panel are suitable for zones 1, 2 and outside zones according to the latest IEE regulations. The LED system is manufactured to class ll category and do not require an earth connection.
