MPG-plus 2-Finger Gripper for Small Components

The MPG-plus is the most powerful 2-finger small component gripper on the market. Its enormous efficiency, resulting from the combination of oval piston drive and anti-friction guideway, boosts the gripping force by 25%. The 30% higher load rating enables 50% longer gripper fingers. The higher gripping forces at the same volume-mass ratio makes it possible to use smaller sized versions.

Rotary Unit SRU-mini

The lightweight and fast pneumatic universal rotary unit SRU-mini is equipped with very small, power-ful hydraulic shock absorbers. This allows much shorter rotary cycles at high loads. The SRU-mini features diverse options such as fluid feed-through, hydraulic shock absorpti-on and pneumatic middle position. The large end position adjustment and the middle position provide for maximum flexibility and the upward continuation of the series ensures a broad spectrum of applications.

For the linear axes with adaptable drives, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta and ELS, SCHUNK will provide you on request with configured servo motors designed for your specific application and technical

requirements. We prefer servo motors from Bosch-Rexroth, Siemens or SCHUNK. We will be glad to provide you with the required controllers of the InraDrive series from Bosch-Rexroth or the Sinamics series

from Siemens, depending on the servo motors used. Of course, you also have the option of mounting any other servo motor on the linear axes.

2-Finger Parallel Gripper PGN-plus

The world’s first gripper with robust multi-tooth guidance. This gripper features high-precision handling and higher maximum torque for use of longer fingers and higher gripping forces.

Diverse options for special applica-tions, the large range of different sizes available and high gripping forces make it a universal solution for many fields of application.

Long-stroke Gripper EGA

The robust EGA is a long-stroke gripper with an adaptable drive. The capability of mounting a standard servo motor facilitates integration in the control system and ensures the many advantages of an individual customer controller.

The motor can be mounted either parallel or at right angles to the direction of movement. Like a normal servo axis, the EGA can be controlled directly and interpolated with existing axes.

Swivel Head SRH-plus

The SRH-plus series is sure to impress you with its time-tested rotary modules, media feedthroughs and electric feedthroughs. Its high-performance hydraulic shock absorption enables higher loads, shorter cycle times and reliable rotating processes.

Both the swivel head and the gripper to be rotated require no hoses for the compressed air supply. The advantage: The higher torque in a smaller installation space enables more compact system designs.

Electric Small Component Gripper EGP

The electrically driven small component gripper EGP concentrates on what is most important. It is the counterpart to the pneumatic gripper MPG-plus and is controlled by digital inputs, as by a valve on a pneumatic gripper. The status of the gripper can be monitored by optional sensors. The EGP requires no additional external control units. For more dynamics and energy efficiency of the higher level system, the weight was also reduced through con-sistent use of a lightweight design. The result: high speed with simul taneous high grip-ping force.

Rotary Module ERS

The compact dimensions of the ERS and the center bore for cables are ideal preconditions for the design of compact and organized high-performance systems. The hollow shaft torque motor is completely wear-free, with efficiency of up to 80%.

Ring Indexing Table RST-P

The pneumatically operated ring indexing table RST-P can cycle to the left or right, or alternating, without modifi-cation. With angles of rotation up to 90° per cycle, it is the ideal solution for rotating and turning workpieces. The cycle can easily be set to 4, 6, 8 or 12 steps by means of spacers.

Heavy-duty Grippers

Safe and flexible handling of components up to 700 kg and maximum safety due to mechanical gripping force maintenance. The servo-operated heavy load gripper from SCHUNK implements a large range of strokes with a maximum gripping force of 23000 N.

As an accessory for especially heavy loads we also offer the heavy load changer SWS, which allows an additional load of up to 1310 kg.

Example Applications

Grippers

Standard grippers with product-specific gripper fingers reach into the printed circuit board from above. A single board is cut out from below with an end milling cutter. An efficient dust extractor, fitted with a brush, prevents dust accumulation on the products. Then the separated board is placed in a pallet or a downstream system.

Fast assembly applications. With the SCHUNK modular system

In assembly automation, cycle times, process reliability and quality are the decisive factors for success. To meet these requi-rements, SCHUNK offers one of the world’s most comprehensive modular systems for Pick & Place applications. One example is a manufacturer of electromagnetic components for automotive and industrial technology. The high-performance assembly system processes a total of 3 million parts per year. The blanks come directly from a rotary transfer machine, where they are turned and machined from bar stock. In the assembly system a camera checks for the correct position and that there are no chips, after which a rubber seal is supplied, optically

inspected and mounted on the component at a roll burnishing station. After another inspection the component is turned 180° and provided with a second rubber seal on the back, in an identical process.

This example clearly shows how the SCHUNK modular system can be used efficiently for widely differing applications. From the SCHUNK modular system with more than 7000 combination possibilities for high-performance assembly, numerous applications for small component handling and assembly automation can be created.

Pick & Place units

The specifications for the handling concept were clearly defined: At a cycle time of 5 seconds the system had to feature maximum process reliability with minimal downtimes and very low maintenance. SCHUNK servo-electric Pick & Place units PPU-E offer the optimal preconditions for these requirements. Very fast cycle times and excellent repeat accuracy are their decisive com-petitive advantages. They perform high-speed assembly tasks with the utmost precision. The cycle time including switching and gripping times is only 0.58 s with a 40 mm vertical stroke, a 120 mm horizontal stroke and 2 kg of moving mass. About 80% of all Pick & Place applications in assembly automation can be achieved with the compact PPU-E units from SCHUNK.

Rotary table

The rotary table on which the components are assembled is completely equipped with handling components and assembly groups from SCHUNK. Some of these are taken directly from the SCHUNK modular system. For example, the compact rotary gripper module GSM, which not only grips, but also rotates the compo-nents. With minimal design and construction work it is possible to implement highly efficient Pick & Place units, compound slides or rotary gripper units, gantry systems and entire functio-nal assemblies. Even multi-axis systems can be achieved entirely with standard elements.
