Fohhn loudspeaker systems have been manufactured in Germany for over 15 years and are renowned for their outstanding workmanship and sound quality. As the company has developed, its goal has been to provide the customer with solutions that involve state-of-the-art technology and complex functionality, but are easy to use.

In addition to manufacturing high quality products, we also want to make sure that end users are able to achieve the best possible results. That’s why we have created the Fohhn Partner Programme in which specialist dealers are certified as either a “Fohhn Partner” or “Fohhn Sound Expert”. Fohhn Partners are trained audio providers who have been approved to advise on Fohhn products and their applications, including areas such as room acoustics, audio system planning, room simulation, installation and measurement.

Fohhn’s in-house planning and project engineers are always on hand to support a Fohhn Partner throughout an entire project. With theirextensive technical knowledge and practical experience, they are happy to advise every step of the way and can even assist during the final stages of testing at a venue. The Fohhn SoundLab plays host to a series of regular training and professional development events for Fohhn staff, Fohhn Partners and other professionals. Our speakers have included several of the world’s leading audio specialists including Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ahnert, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Anselm Goertz, Prof. Dr. Jürgen W. Meyer and Dipl. Ing. Volker Löwer. We also offer regular training on commonly used room simulation programs such as EASE and Ulysses, as well asthe EASERA measurement system.

The FOHHN SOUNDLAB.

THE FOHHN SOUNDLAB.In the Nürtingen factory premises, Fohhn’s new SoundLab offers the great opportunity to carry out fundamental audio research and to develop, measure and test leading-edge technology. Engineers from a range of different backgrounds work closely together to push the boundaries of audio technology. The SoundLab also provides custo-mers with an excellent venue for thorough testing of the capabilities of Fohhn audio systems.New paths to tread better solutions to develop and the highest tech-nical levels to aim for – that’s the mantra of Fohhn’s R&D division. The same goal-driven, scientific approach is applied in all areas of development from electronics and software to acoustics and mecha-nics. Creative concepts for new loudspeakers are quickly translated into theory, based on extensive calculations. Numerous computer simulations and prototyping phases follow, in which each parameter – frequency response, dispersion characteristics, dynamics, distorti-on, large signal response – is recorded, adjusted and optimized. The next stage involves specifically optimizing the amplifier electronics, digital signal processors (DSP) and remote control / networking technology for the loudspeaker. Each development phase, from the mechanics through to the software, is carried out at Fohhn.At the end of the development process, all newly created products undergo lengthy and rigorous practical tests; both at Fohhn and in live situations. “Practical testing” at Fohhn includes everyone involved in the development process. Fohhn engineers, marketing and distribution personnel, who all have experience as live sound engineers, musicians or DJs. This way, each new product can also be carefully scrutinized from a user’s viewpoint. The result is a perfect loudspeaker system that combines optimum sound characteristics with total operating reliability. A system that is simple and safe to use, ready to give maximum performance and real listening pleasure.

OPTIMUM RESEARCH AND TEST CONDITIONSWith a floor area of 24 meters x 14 meters and a height of 6.5 meters, the Fohhn SoundLab is one of Germany’s largest and best equipped audio measurement facilities. It enables developers to measure each loudspeaker parameter very precisely and to assess the relevance of the captured data while listening. Only under such specialist conditions can a loudspeaker’s performance be optimi-zed to the highest level. A combination of room size and highly developed FFT measuring systems enable to obtain reflection free measurements down to 100 Hz – something that is usually difficult to achieve. The amount of wall clearance means that dampening the room to achieve an “anechoic chamber” effect has not been neces-sary. Instead, at great expense, absorbers and diffusers have been used to convert the former warehouse into a dedicated listening space with superb acoustics. With a natural room reverb of approx 0.4 seconds, Fohhn’s new SoundLab offers top testing conditions..

FOHHN’S 2-AXIS MEASUREMENT ROBOTAnother technical highlight of the Fohhn SoundLab! This impressive device gives us the opportunity to measure very large loudspeaker systems. The robot has been specifically developed by Fohhn for this purpose, and is able to pan through both speaker axes at 360°, with a positioning accuracy of 0.3°. The device enables the speaker’s directional characteristics to be assessed and optimized during each development stage – from the speaker chassis to the finished prototype.The polar pattern data obtained by running Fohhn loudspeakers through room simulation programs such as EASE or ULYSSES, can also be analyzed and optimized. This is achieved by making several hundred individual measurements, with the robot positioning itself at a different angle each time. A series of measurements for a single system can take 12 hours or more to complete.

Our highly popular wireless EasyPort systems will be renamed and will undergo a number of changes as we introduce a new generation of wireless sound reinforcement technology.

The most important change to the system will be its new modular construction. Two basic systems will be available: the FP-11 modular and FP-22 modular. These EasyPort base systems can be fitted with any current radio microphone system and a CD player, according to customer requirements. The radio microphone systems can either be supplied by Fohhn, following appropriate consultation, or supplied by the customer. Due to the changing radio frequencies in Europe, we no longer offer our own microphone systems. The CD player can be fitted at a later date, if required.

Improvements have also been made to the sound, with state-of-the-art high frequency drivers included. All other product features remain identical to those in the current models.

The “Direct-Media” compact active loudspeaker system will also undergo an acoustic overhaul. In summer onwards, this will be known as the “FP-Media”.

PT-6 Plug & Play line array systemThe new PT-6 is an very powerful plug & play line array system designed for stand mounted, stacked or flown applications. Six 6.5” mid-to-low long excursion speakers offer a powerful performance. Three high performance 1.4” compression drivers and a specially developed HF phase EQ ensure crystal clear, precise reproduction of high frequencies.

A vertical dispersion angle of 30° guarantees excellent results even in challenging acoustic environments, while a 110° horizontal dispersion angle makes the loudspeaker ideal for a wide range of sound reinforce-ment applications and venues such as festival tents, clubs, smaller open-air events and concert halls.

Three different models are currently in development: 1. Fully passive with integrated filter network and an impedance of 6 Ohms. 2. Two-way active/bi-amp operation 3. Fully active with integrated Class D amplifier.

PT-8 The combination of two 6.5” neodymium transducers of the low-/mid range, each incorporating an 1.4” voice coil, allows a low crossover frequency. This way the WaveLine Compact System is suitable for full range use in special applications.

The HF-Phase-EQ coupled to a high power 1.4” neodymium driver achieves an accurate and highly exact sound conduction in the high-tone range, which results in an extended high frequency bandwidth.

The construction determines an extremely low crossover frequency to the compression driver which optimizes the horizontal dispersion of the system. 14.5 kg

The EASE Focus Aiming Software is a two-dimensional acoustic simulation software that serves for the configuration and modelling of Line Arrays close to reality.

PS-9 activeThe 21” high-powered subwoofer, with its constantly controlled speaker system and 8.5 kW (peak) amplifier power, has just redefined the whole concept of bass sound.

For easy transportation, the PS-9 is supplied with a sturdy trolley on 80 mm wheels. Innovative SmartLock Locking System.

The housing is made from birch plywood, which is waterproofed, slotted, glued and double-screwed. A scratch-resistant polyurethane coating has also been applied to help withstand the everyday rigours of touring. Eight ergonomic handels. Weight 104 kg.

WAVELINE SUBWOOFER SYSTEMS FOR FLYING APPLICATIONSThe Fohhn® PS-2 and PS-4 are high power subwoofer systems, equipped with a high performance sub low loudspeaker, equipped with an extremely heavy-duty neodymium engine. It can be used to supplement the LF headroom of the PT-8 and PT-9 elements. The shape relates just to 2 elements WaveLine PT-8 and PT-9 respectively. Special editions without handles or special colours i.e. for fixed installations are available.The WaveLine PS-2/4 Sub can be combined as top flown element with WaveLine PT-8/9 elements within a line, as well as a separate and parallel hung column with a couple of PS-2/4 sub systems. Used with the stacking cradle the PS-2/4 sub serves as basic element at the bottom of the line. The loudspeakers are mechanically connected using WaveLine rigging links on both sides of the cabinet at front and rear.

The intuitive Fohhn operating concept incorporates cable connected and wireless remote control options for fixed and mobile Fohhn sound systems. The remote control devices are extremely user-friendly and give the user complete control over the audio system from a central location. Individual devices and entire systems can be operated synchronously from one of several devices, opening up a whole range of different application possibilities.

All Fohhn active speaker systems, DSP amplifiers and DSP controllers are equipped with two Fohhn-Net network interfaces as standard, which can be used to monitor and remotely operate each individual device. If you are using several Fohhn devices, you can easily interlink and monitor or remotely operate them from a central location. The Fohhn-Net system is nothing more than a control network, no audio data is transferred, only control data. Fohhn-Net can operate a maximum of 254 devices simultaneously via cable at distances of up to 1800 m. At live events, you can use any available microphone cable or your multicore and for fixed installations, you can use conventional telephone or network cables.Bus or star networks are also an option here. A circular cabling arrangement will achieve additional redundancy and ensure that the star network will function correctly if interrupted at any point. The Fohhn-Net was designed in line with established industrial standards and is very reliable due to a stable transfer protocol and permanent monitoring (continuous feedback during data transfer).
