AS-i master interface for the PS4system of programmable controllers
The PS4 system permits consistentdecentralization using the LE4-505-BS1local expansion module as AS-i master. Two AS-i masters can be directlyconnected to a locally expandable PS4controller. The AS-i master passes onthe sensor signals to the PLC and thecontrol commands to the actuators.
Simply ingenious
Simple, flexible, safe and reliable - it isno wonder then that the AS-Interfacehas quickly established itself in industri-al automation. The open, standardizedbus system networks binary sensors andactuators to the superordinate controllevel. The AS-Interface, AS-i for short,is particularly noteworthy as well for itsstraightforward installation via insulati-on displacement, its flexible networkingstructure, its high degree of safety inindustrial environments, and for itsinteroperability throughout.
AS-Interface
Simply Ingenious Networking
for Sensors and Actuators
6
Information and power
The AS-Interface is characterized by itsprofiled, flat, yellow cable, the so-calledAS-i cable. AS-i puts an end to thecumbersome, cost-intensive andsome-times error fraught practice ofindividually wiring the sensors/actua-tors to the PLC.
The signal information and the powersupply for the connected AS-i slaves(sensors/actuators) are transported atthe same time via the standard twocore cable, the AS-i cable.
The Moeller product range
Virtually any application can beimplemented using the extensiveMoeller AS-i range. The productspectrum ranges from PLC to masterinterface, through various controlcircuit devices, switching and protectivedevices, I/O slave modules for use incontrol panels (IP20) and in the field(IP67), to safety oriented sensors(Safety at Work).
The entire AS-i network with all itssensors and actuators is configuredgraphically using the “Sucosoft S40”standard PLC programming software.
RMQ Titan control circuit devices
The new range of control circuit devices,RMQ Titan, can be connected to the AS-inetwork, whether front mounting in thecontrol panel, or base fixing in a surfacemounting enclosure.
The contact elements generate inputsignals (push-button, key release switch,thumb-grip), and the LED elements(indicator lights) and acoustic indicatorsare the output signals.
The SL signal tower also, can be opera-ted directly using AS-i. It indicatesthe status of the machine visiblyand acoustically in all direc-tions.
7
I/O slave modules
Sensors and actuators that are notcompatible with AS-i can be linked toAS-i via I/O slave modules.
The appropriate module for everyapplication: the I/O slave modules areavailable protected to IP67 for use atthe machine, or to IP20 for the controlpanel (top-hat rail).

A safety monitor that switches thesystem to a safe state in the event ofhazard or error, is added to the AS-inetwork for error detection andmonitoring of safety related informati-on. There are matching safety slavessuch as Emergency-Stop buttons andposition switches (protective door swit-ches, limit switches).
The AS-i Safety at Work System canbe used in applications up to safetycategory 4 to EN 954-1.
The special benefit is that it is nowpossible to use a mixture of safety-related and standard AS-i componentsin an AS-Interface network.
The Safety at Work scheme isrecognized by the TÜV (GermanTrade Association) and BIA.
KLAS networkable motor-startercombinations
The KLAS communication capable,motor-starter system makes it possiblefor motor-starters (direct-on-line orreversing) to be networked via theAS-interface bus system
KLAS is available in open modular stylefor application in the control panel, and housed in enclosures to IP 65 forinstallation at the machine.
EASY control relays
Expandable EASY control relays can belinked as active slaves, to even complexautomation systems via the “EASY205-ASI” network module. This permitsinnovative solutions, yet with verysimple operation, in building servicesmanagement or in distributed systems.
In this way, straightforward signals suchas Start, Stop, machine/system running, error etc. can be exchanged betweenmaster and slave controllers.
AS-i for safety
The transmission of safety-relateddata via the AS-i bus is possible withthe Safety at Work system expansionmodule.
• Process automation: sewage works,(petro-) chemical industry, paper-and textile industry
• Power supply and distribution:power stations, switchgear assemblies

The Industrial Ethernet also includesanother application protocol (API) onthe TCP/IP. The API defines the datatransfer protocol and the servicesrequired. At present, several APIs arespecified, although harmonization isstill awaited.
1.Programming via Ethernet
PLCs can be programmed via theEthernet using the CoBox. To do so,you just need a free Ethernet addressand the cable connection.
Each CoBox has its own IP address. Thus all PLCs that are equipped withCoBox can be fully commissionedwithout a cable having to be changedover.
The Sucosoft S40 programming soft-ware for PS4/PS416 PLCs runs underWIN 95/98/NT on any PLC on the net-work.
2. Visualization via operator panel
Communication with display andoperator panels can likewise be carriedout via the Ethernet using the CoBox.For the MI4 and MV4 series of displayunits, CoBox can be used as the Ether-net communication interface.
Connection to the whole world
Ethernet, the widely used, standardizedcommunication infrastructure, can alsobe used for automation. The benefitsof Ethernet are that this networkinfrastructure fits well into the officeworld and consequently is very cost-efficient. Furthermore, virtually everypart of the world is accessible via theInternet.
A link between office and productioncan be implemented effortlessly viaEthernet TCP/IP.
All you need is CoBox - and you’re in
The CoBox Ethernet networking modu-le enables a connection to be establis-hed from every Ethernet slave to a PLC.The CoBox is an expansion unit for thePS4 and PS416 range of PLCs and isarranged on a top-hat rail next to thePS4 compact PLCs. Creating access tothe process data is as simple as this.
The link to the PLC is created via theRS232 programming interface for thePS4-341-MMI, alternatively for PS416via the transparent RS485 interface .
Data transfer via TCP/IP
As protocol software for application-specific functions and reliable datatransfer, TCP/IP (Transmission ControlProtocol/Internet Protocol) has provedto be particularly suitable for officeapplications and for decentralizedindustrial automation.
