Technical and technological innovations

▪ Object-related and PLC-based process control system: brewmaxx has been developed for programmable logic controllers from Sie-mens and Rockwell Automation.

▪ The brewmaxx class concept: The open and object-related class concept for two control platforms can be individually further developed.

▪ Compiler-less system architecture: brewmaxx enables process programming without stopping production.

▪ Parameterisation instead of programming: Core principle of brewmaxx, integrated PLC code is parameterised rather than programmed to enable Plant control.

▪ Re-designed user interface: The new version 9 user interface has been developed to the latest Microsoft and open standards and with the help of usability experts.

▪ Pre-configured automation classes: The brewmaxx standard version already includes numerous pre-configured automation classes. This integrated process-specific module library supports simple configurations and quick commissioning.

▪ Based on Standard-Software: brewmaxx is exclusively based on Microsoft operating systems (Windows) and databases (SQL).

▪ Process recording and output: Thanks to the brewmaxx Visu-Recorder add-on, brewmaxx is the only system that offers an application which, similar to a VCR, records all process sequences and outputs them on a process image within the control system. It is ideal for process optimisa-tion and a “must-have” for anyone striving for the continuous improvement of processes and wishing to train staff efficiently and effectively.

▪ Integrated MES functionality: brewmaxx already includes integrated MES functionalities. As option the MES solution brewmaxx Integrate can be installed without an existing brewmaxx PCS.

▪ Process graphics via drag & drop: Graphic objects (vessels, valves, pipes) can be created very easily using the new process image de-signer. Alternatively, industry-specific process graphics are available, which are inserted via drag & drop and linked automatically.

▪ Multilingual process control system: Multiple system languages like English, Spanish, German, French, Russian, Portuguese, Dutch and Chinese.

▪ Webportal: Integral part of all brewmaxx base systems, with Software Developer Kit (SDK) for the creation of individual Web reports.

brewmaxx is not a SCADA system

brewmaxx is a process control system with vertical orientation developed by ProLeiT AG specifically for the special requirements of breweries. Besides integrated MES functions, the standard system already includes a large number of pre-configured and industry-specific automation classes and supports the “parameterisation instead of programming” principle.

SCADA systems on the other hand are horizontally oriented systems which have neither integrated MES functions nor industry-specific automation classes. The IT system architecture of more intelligent SCADA systems usually consists of several servers (e.g. SCADA server, Batch server, Reporting server, MES server, etc.) which must be configured and maintained. Therefore, the adaptations and extensions which must be programmed lead to increased effort. Furthermore, SCADA systems are compiler based (the server or PLC must, e.g., be restarted to activate changes), which can result in increased downtime during production.

One of the major advantages of brewmaxx compared to SCADA systems is its compiler-less and flat sys-tem architecture with just one central production server on which all production data is stored centrally. brewmaxx is therefore

▪ easier to develop and implement,

▪ easier to operate,

▪ easier to maintain and

▪ easier to extend (without data loss).

Benefits over SCADA systems

brewmaxx is an open and independent process control system

brewmaxx is a manufacturer-independent process control system, as it has been developed for program-mable logic controllers from Siemens and Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley).

Traditional process control systems (PCS) on the other hand are manufacturer-dependent and horizontally oriented systems which possess only a few, or perhaps no, industry-specific automation classes and only support just one control platform.

The base functionality of the IT system architecture in traditional process control systems (process control) usually consists of one production server; numerous other servers are, however, normally required for additional applications (e.g. liquid handling, recipe management, batch system, materials management, MES functions, reporting and connection to external ERP systems). This means that all other solutions must be additionally configured and maintained when adapting and extending the software. Furthermore, most PCSs are compiler based (the PLC must, e.g., be restarted to activate changes), which can result in increased downtime during production.

One of the major advantages of brewmaxx compared to traditional PCSs is its compiler-less and flat sys-tem architecture with just one central production server on which all production data is stored centrally. brewmaxx is therefore

▪ easier to develop and implement,

▪ easier to operate,

▪ easier to maintain,

▪ easier to extend (without data loss) and

▪ independent with regard to the applied control platform.

New in Version 9 Some new features at a glance

User InterfaceThe new Operation Manager is the central user interface for operators and is available not only for the base systems but also for all add-ons and modules. The revamped user interface complies with the latest usability standards and facilitates operation, monitoring and control of production processes. The new Process Screen Designer is an in-tegral part of the process control systems and offers extensive librar-ies of industry-specific graphic objects which can simply be added via drag & drop.

Stand-alone MES Solutionbrewmaxx Integrate is a new, stand-alone MES basic system that can be used with or without the brewmaxx process control system. Based on standard software components (e. g. SSRS from Microsoft), information from various sources is centrally processed, prepared and displayed on a wide variety of end devices via the web.

WebportalThe brewmaxx web portal ensures the process control system brew-maxx has a host for web applications with standardized user manage-ment, language switching and user interface design. This enables the presentation of all types of reports, messages and measured values via web browser. In addition, the web portal contains a software de-velopment kit (SDK), which allows the integration of your own web-sites and third-party components.

High Attention Library and new Curve ViewerThe new high attention library has been specially developed to graphi-cally highlight messages and faults. The new curve viewer optimizes the display of measurement curves while providing additional func-tions for research, commenting and comparing measured values. This means, for example, that order and batch comparisons from differing time periods can be quickly analyzed and displayed.

New add-onsSince brewmaxx V9 the following add-ons are available: brewmaxx LMS, brewmaxx Maintenance and brewmaxx Integrate Batch Cockpit.

Archiv Management SystemThe new brewmaxx archive manager module enables the archiving of all transaction data of the control system and its presentation for several years.

New Automation Classes New automation classes have been developed especially for SIMATIC controllers, type S7-1511 to S7-1518. These newly created classes are particularly suitable for connecting micro plants and package units (e. g. utilities, CIP) and provide a further key component for modular automation (MTP).

Integrated OPC Unified Architecture ServerProcess and production data can thus be exchanged even faster and more securely with partner systems such as SCADA, ERP or quality management systems, and the continuous communication from individual sensors and actuators to the ERP level is optimized. With OPC UA, the connection of package units or intel-ligent peripheral modules is fast and simple. Built-in security mechanisms ensure maximum IT security when transferring data points. Secure and ideally prepared for the implementation of Industry 4.0 applications.

brewmaxx is a PLC-based process control system for programmable logic controllers (PLC) from Siemens and Rockwell Automation.

The flexible and transparent licencing model of brewmaxx does not differentiate between PLC manufac-turer or the type and equipment of the applied programmable logic controller.

However, due to the PLC manufacturer specifications, the functional scope of brewmaxx varies according to the selected control platform. The various features are described in the platform-specific chapters of this catalogue (see also Siemens and Rockwell Automation).

The graphic below provides an overview of the availability of brewmaxx base systems and modules according to the PLC manufacturer.

brewmaxx archive solutionsStandard filing

The integrated archive functions enable the archiving of all the transaction data in the process control system over a period up to three years. An integrated and automated data access interface archives the entire database (online and archive) and provides it for research requests. The special features of this type of archiving are:

▪ Calendar-controlled transfer of data from the online system to the archive

▪ Automatic, calendar-controlled backup of the archive

▪ Overfill protection of the online database

The following installation variants are available:

Without archiving function

The transaction data is deleted irrevocably in accordance with the archiving settings, e.g. after three months.

With archiving function

The archive data can be found on the production server, in a database optimized for archiving.

The transaction data is provided for a period of up to 3 years.

Prerequisite: a separate hard disk for the archive data

Recommendation: Use this variant for all medium and large systems.

Licencing note

A Microsoft SQL instance is required for utilisation of the brewmaxx archiving functions. This licence as well as a separate licence for the brewmaxx production server is part of the MS SQL Server Package, which is provided by ProLeiT at special conditions (see also chapter database software). Therefore, the MS SQL Server Package is best equipped for all common plant configurations.

In principle, a Microsoft SQL Server licence for brewmaxx archiving functions can also be pur-chased from an official dealer. In this case, however, we recommend the customer to ensure correct licencing through a Microsoft licence consultant, because number and type of licences are highly dependent on the particular system configuration.

Long-term filing – brewmaxx archive manager

The brewmaxx archive manager is a solution for long-term filing of all recorded transaction data of the process control system.

Data researches are executed via separate brewmaxx Clients (research workstations). It is easy for users to do researches on detailed information (e.g. consumptions, recipe parameters, operator interventions within a batch) by setting filters (e.g. order number of recipe, goods income number) within the usual system interface.

The special features of this type of long-term filing are:

▪ Data researches of all transaction data of the process control system, also over a period of more than three years

▪ Optional autonomous system operation, independent of the production environment

▪ Easy data transmission from production server to archive system through copying of data base backup

▪ Lean software design, no installation of drivers, applications or additional extensions required

▪ Simple designed graphical user interface to select the filing of long-term data

The module brewmaxx archive manager is only available for the brewmaxx base system as from version 9.50.

Availability, validation and virtualisation General overview

Availabilitybrewmaxx supports various options for developing systems with enhanced availability.

▪ Server level brewmaxx has been released for application with high availability server systems where pure hard-ware redundancy (Stratus ftServer) and software redundancy (Stratus everRun) in combination with standard server hardware are available. brewmaxx servers therefore also support redundant network connections.

▪ Workstation level As it is highly unlikely with a correct system network configuration - except in the event of large-scale power outages - that all workstations will fail at the same time redundancy functions for the worksta-tions are not required. However, individual workstations can be configured for emergency operation in the event of a complete loss of the server-workstation connection (e.g. complete server failure, server-related network damage). These workstations allow – also without a server – limited access to the running process in order to transfer it into a defined operating status.

▪ Control level The system supports the application of redundant network connections with standard controllers. A project-specific release is provided upon request for the application of redundant PLC systems.

Validation The brewmaxx system can be validated thanks to its system architecture. Besides considerable simplifica-tion of a validation due to the class concept, two key requirements of CFR21 Part 11 are supported:

▪ Audit-Trail is available for the entire engineering environment and thus for all brewmaxx system components.

▪ The brewmaxx standard system provides the base infrastructure for the application of the electronic signature.

Virtualisation brewmaxx can also be installed for productive operation in a virtual system environment. Please ask for our White Paper “Virtualisation”.

When applied in virtualised environments, the resources must be exclusively allocated according to the requirements and should not be shared with further virtual machines or host operating systems. We recommend operating brewmaxx with VMware ESX.

Operational safety with redundancy Recommended redundancy solutions

Software solution: Stratus everRun ExpressFor customers who are looking for a cost-effective redundancy solution with high reliability we recommend Stratus everRun Express. Stratus everRun Express is a downtime prevention software that ensures business continu-ity and data integrity by keeping Windows and Linux applications up and running with mainframe like availability. That will give you availability class 4 (AEC-2 „High Availability“). This means that a downtime of just approx. 52 minutes/year is possible.

With everRun, you can use industry standard x86 servers so you can utilize existing competencies within your organization, without requiring specialized IT skill sets. This availability solution can run both your single and multi-threaded Windows and Linux applications high available, with no changes to your applica-tions.

One application lives on two virtual machines. One machine is active and mirrors data to the other one. If a component fails, it’s replaced with the healthy component from the second system. No interruptions or data loss. The I/O is automatically mirrored to the redundant server.

For even more security, Stratus everRun Enterprise is available. The fault tolerant high availability solution, availability class 5 (AEC-4 „Fault Tolerant“) with less than 5 minutes/year downtime.

Benefits

▪ Turns two servers into one logical server

▪ Practical failure strategy with high reliability

Hardware solution: Stratus ftServerWe recommend ftServer for customers searching for a redundancy solution with very high reliability. The ftServer is classed as having 99.999% availability; this equates to availability class 5 (AEC-4 “Fault Tolerant”). A downtime of ap-prox. 5 minutes/year is thus possible.

With ftServer, two independently operational servers are synchronised in one casing, resulting in a fault-tol-erant ftServer. Thanks to lockstep technology, both computers run the same set of operations at the same time. If anything is damaged, the damaged part is simply switched off and the undamaged part continues to operate. There is no failover. This continuous availability enables an uninterruptible business process and ensures data integrity. An ftServer even remains intact if a processor or memory module has burned out. Not a single dataset is lost. Added to this is the simple configuration of the ftServer, which is administered like an individual server.

Benefits

▪ Two autonomous servers located in one casing

▪ Exchange of components during operation

▪ Optimum failure strategy with very high reliability

Base licences and extension licences of brewmaxx PCS

Base licence A base licence is the prerequisite for installing a brewmaxx system. A base licence has been de-signed for installation with a dedicated server and includes one licence each for the PLC, a Server (inoperable) and a Standard Client (workstation). Extension licences are required each to install fur-ther PLCs and Clients.

Since the individual licences can be combined with each other flexibly, the entire licence package can be tailored perfectly to the project demands with regard to size (number of servers, workstations and PLCs) and functionality (independently definable per server, workstation and PLC).

For more complex solutions with several servers, a number of base licences are required according to the number of brewmaxx servers; although the type and size of these base licences may vary. Different sized licences are available for this process.

Licencing of the entry-level versions for small to medium-sized plants brewmaxx compact and brew-maxx express is an exception here. A limited licenc-ing model applies for these “server-less systems”.

Extension licencesExtension licences allow you to adjust the size of the brewmaxx system at any time. They are avail-able for workstations and PLCs. Client licences are available in three different types: the Single Client should be selected to licence one workstation in combination with only one monitor. The Standard Client should be used to licence one workstation with up to two monitors. And the Power Client should be used to run one workstation with up to four monitors.

brewmaxx Clients as well as Terminal Clients can be optionally installed and operated according to the existing customer system infrastructure.

Licence sizes The licence size of brewmaxx can be freely selected and is available from “100” until “unlimited”. The specific licence size, as a rule, refers to the required amount of automation objects or data points. Base and extension licences usually have to match same licence size.

Special licences Upon request, it is also possible to purchase site and enterprise licences, in combination of a Sub-scription, only.

Calculation of the licence size – Process Control System

Calculation of the data points

Standardised data point = 5x ( analogue values + counter ) + binary values

Values directly or indirectly recorded by a PLC via a head station (e.g. binary/analogue sensors, measuring devices, counters), as well as those recorded from other external systems, are relevant for the licence.

Explanation for calculation of standardised data points:Analogue values: e.g. measured value curves, messages (numeric values, integer), formular objectsBinary values: e.g. binary traces and messages (bit messages, array)

Data acquisition objects, which are not linked to an activated PLC, are not relevant for licence size calcula-tion.

Calculation of the automation objects

Automation object =All objects which are either directly (via I/O periphery) connected to a PLC operated under brewmaxx or indirectly addressed via a communi-cation interface in an external PLC.

Determination of the licence size With conventional SCADA systems, the individual data point (“tag”) is the licence-relevant size. The number of objects to be parameterised is the licence-relevant size of the brewmaxx system components. An object includes the complete functionality of a process component (e.g. a valve or a drive), i.e. all controllers, feed-back, commands and messages, as well as the complete operating dialogue. Depending on the respective SCADA system and the corresponding class, an object in brewmaxx corresponds to between 6 and more than 50 data points.

Objects which are not directly or indirectly connected to process components, e.g. valves, drives or transmitters, are not licence relevant for brewmaxx. This also applies, in particular, to messages and objects of the process controller, i.e. instances of the classes Phase Controller, OCM (Object Control Matrix) and Logic.

With regard to the licence sizes, the brewmaxx process control system requires considerably smaller packages than conventional SCADA systems.

The brewmaxx Licence Manager is an integral part of each base system and can be used to determine the licence size. The tables contained therein show which system classes are relevant for determining the licence size.

brewmaxxProcess control system with integrated recipe management

The process control system brewmaxx is used for controlling engineering processes and complies with the principle of “parameterisation instead of programming”. brewmaxx covers the specific needs of a brewery. Even the base system includes functionalities for production data acquisition, process control and recipe management.

Production data acquisition

An integral part of the brewmaxx base system is the production data acquisition, which records, processes and archives process, production, operating and machine data for plant-wide information management and considers, in particular, the heterogeneity and complexity of subordinate systems from which data should be recorded. Besides simple production data acquisition, the base system also enables the ad-hoc evalu-ation of the recorded data and its visualisation. Various OPC servers can – for example OPC UA (Unified Architecture) – be used depending on the controllers you wish to connect. A driver-based interface is additionally available for non OPC-capable systems. This enables simple and flexible connection of various controller platforms (e.g. Siemens, Rockwell Automation, etc.).

Process control system

The base system of brewmaxx already includes an extensive set of technical and technological classes which is continuously further developed. The range of technical base classes extends from essentially equipment-neutral functionality, e.g. valves, drives, measured values and controllers, to highly-sophisticat-ed equipment-specific functions, e.g. for parameterising and controlling frequency converters. The techno-logical classes provide the functionality for mapping process sequences. The main representatives of this group are the Object Control Matrix (OCM) and the Logic class. The parameters of the process functionality become fully configurable with these classes – from the valve to the sequence control. brewmaxx addition-ally supports parameter-based process control. Previously parameterised sequences can be easily adapted by dynamically combining them with various parameter sets, i.e. when considering different plant operating modes or products to be processed.

Recipe management

brewmaxx is particularly suitable for recipe-based controlling and monitoring of liquid handling processes within breweries. Examples for typical key functions are:

▪ Sequence-based process control with configurable parameters

▪ Technology-related recipe control (definition of procedures consisting of one or several sequences and their combination with dynamically selectable parameter sets)

▪ Special technological classes, e.g. for realising transfer processes with automatic change of source or target tanks

▪ Automatic route control (routing) as well as special functions for tank farm management

When using brewmaxx in combination with brewmaxx material, functions, such as material parameter man-agement and inventory management, are additionally available as well as complete batch tracing in case of an order-related operating mode. For further information on this optional package offer, please refer to brewmaxx + material.

Add-on: brewmaxx Routing Management

Areas of application

The optionally available brewmaxx Routing Management helps to integrate rule-based routing orders with a dynamic route search and allocation into order processing.

Application example:A PLC includes a user program which searches for a route to drain a tank. The user program defines an order with rule-based routing. Once the routing has automatically found a suitable target tank, the order is started automatically and controls the sequence with the suitable recipe. A route consists of the following plant sections and routes:

▪ Source plant section

▪ Source route consisting of up to four line sections

▪ Main route consisting of up to four line sections (optional)

▪ Target route consisting of up to four line sections

▪ Target plant section

If the routes or part of the routes are already engineered in the FIFO sequences, they can be accepted in the route engineering.

Integrated in the standard user interface

Application of the Routing Management enhances the central user interface of brewmaxx (Operation Man-ager) with additional tabs in the following dialogues:

▪ The “Routing“ tab which displays the route is added to the order list in the detailed information on the selected order. If necessary, manual release takes place in this tab.

brewmaxx Integrate MES functions

Areas of application

brewmaxx Integrate allows the “visualisation” of all production data. A key prerequisite for achieving this objective is integrated information management at MES level, which can be integrated and operated infi-nitely across process sequences and departments. brewmaxx Integrate can be used to merge and evalu-ate the required data from individual production areas. Access to this central information platform via Web browser occurs using Microsoft standard software and therefore provides maximum flexibility and protec-tion when realising company-wide MES reporting systems.

Our MES solution allows you to answer the following production questions in real time, like

▪ What is available?

▪ When it is available?

▪ Why is it there?

▪ How did it get there?

Licence model

brewmaxx Integrate uses web-based clients, i.e. access does not require installation or rely on the availa-bility of a brewmaxx client. Therefore, workstations without direct process involvement (e.g. factory mana-gers) can be integrated easily into the entire system via a web browser. A user licence is required for each user accessing a brewmaxx Integrate service.

brewmaxx Integrate can also be used as a stand-alone MES solution in breweries irrespective of a brewmaxx process control system. The brewmaxx Integrate base licence includes the necessary licences for one server. So-called user licences, whose fees vary according to the number of licences, are required for each user in order to access this server.

“brewmaxx Integrate express” is available for small applications. This entry-level package already includes two user licences, is limited to two users and uses a limited data base.

Areas of application

Independent on the licence model our MES solution can be used for following two applications:

1. Use in combination with external systems

Due to the vast number of predefined default interfaces, brewmaxx Integrate can be simply integrated into existing external systems.

2. Use in combination with brewmaxx process control system

brewmaxx Integrate in combination with our brewmaxx PCS, additional functions are available. You not only receive fully prepared production data, but additionally have full control of all the processes. Furthermore, all the interfaces to brewmaxx are already available, making additional programming effort unnecessary. From the very beginning, you can ac-cess the central user interface from where all the functions and the entire production process are directly analysed, monitored and optimised.

Reporting and integration services

The analytics database (see left picture) was specially designed to integrate data from several production areas and various external systems. Besides it was designed to ensure a high performance rate when im-porting or exporting data.

brewmaxx Integrate uses standard Microsoft applications, like SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). Because of a high customer acceptance of these applications plenty of documentation (e.g. blog, online forum, developer website) and training material is available. So plant operators are able to create individual optimisations and extension by themselves or with the help of third party vendors.

The picture of the data flow model on the left displays ...

▪ from which areas data is collected,

▪ how external systems are linked,

▪ how data is specified and grouped,

▪ how value information arose from that data,

▪ what applications are used for analyses

▪ on which basis decisions are to be made.

Through the use of brewmaxx Integrate and it‘s intelligent database structure fast and high quality analyses of the complete production processes are possible.

Analytics dashboards

Areas of application

Technical business intelligence dashboards could be the base for company decisions. A fast access to all production-related information could be a clear competitive advantage especially for production plants with a high number of products and product variants. This is why so called analytic dashboards must have the following characteristics:

▪ easy interfacing

▪ quick creation

▪ quick adoption

▪ high, interactive accessibility

▪ easy to use

Data analysis within brewmaxx Integrate takes place via visual analytics. This enables the recognition of correlations, ...

▪ which are not obviously,

▪ which are only to be presumed or

▪ which are only theoretically calculated.

Technology partner Qlik

The brewmaxx Integrate analytics dashboards offer an enhanced visualisation of information and optimises the presentation of this information on web-based and mobile end devices. As a cooperation partner of Qlik we can offer this unique functionality as an integrated part of brewmaxx Integrate from Version 9.00.

Configuration alternatives

Alternative 1: Minimum configuration

The illustration on the left shows the installation of brewmaxx Integrate on an existing brewmaxx server.

Hardware note: Data exchange between the brewmaxx server and third-party systems

A separate server or a new database instance does not have to be installed for this application. Actually, the existing brewmaxx server can be used.

Alternative 2: Preferred configuration (intranet)

The illustration on the left shows the preferred configuration of brewmaxx Integrate for an in-house server without Internet connection. All functions are available with full performance. External clients can be optionally connected via VPN.

Hardware note: Retrieve brewmaxx production reports via web browser

A separate server can be installed for this applica-tion. If a separate server is installed, it must be equipped with a brewmaxx base system.

Alternative 3: Preferred configuration (internet)

The illustration on the left shows a two-server solu-tion for brewmaxx Integrate. The configuration is similar to alternative 2; the web portal is, however, available on an in-house server via the Internet, but not the production network.

Hardware note: Use Operational Data Storage and retrieve reports via Reporting Ser-vices

We recommend the installation of a separate web server for this application. This must be equipped with a brewmaxx base system. The ODS additionally requires the Integration Services in order to ex-change data between a brewmaxx server and third-party systems, and to make brewmaxx production reports available via web browser.

brewmaxx material Process-related materials management

Areas of application

One of the key instruments for the effective management of order and recipe-controlled production processes is process-related materials management with a transaction-accurate online view of all material transactions recorded on the basis of a process-compliant warehouse structure. In addition to precise inventory management, the recording of this information enables investigations and evaluations, in particular batch tracing.

brewmaxx material offers this functionality as a module which can be flexibly combined with the base system. Materials management is therefore also available for applications with pure production data management.

Discounted licence fees for brewmaxx material are available in the brewmaxx + material package.

Licence information

The brewmaxx material module licence is a client/server-based system component, and the functionality provided by the server requires a licence. The functions required at the workstations are integrated in the client applications of the base system and do not require additional licences for workstations or PLCs.

brewmaxx web portalWeb reporting and SDK for web applications

Areas of application

Websites opened via the web portal can be run on various web browsers and retrieved from PCs and mobi-le PDAs. It is not necessary to install third-party software (Java, Silverlight, Flash, or similar) on the clients.

The web portal enables the retrieval of standardized production reports (e.g. brewing report) from several production servers and the retrieval of MES reports. Reports created via Microsoft Reporting Services, in particular, can process data from various sources (e.g. third-party databases, OLAP, web services). All the reports from all the sources are displayed in the same user interface along with their parameters. The web portal remembers the most recent settings of key parameters (e.g. time period, plant, material) and pre-assigns them for the next visit or the next report. This means repeating input values can thus be avoided or reduced. The brewmaxx user management is used in the server-related web application. Users therefore only need to be created centrally once. Rights management takes place in the Configuration Manager.

The web portal can be additionally extended by ASP.NET MVC modules. A template is provided for this purpose. Creation of new websites and integration of existing websites can be realised easily.

Licence information

The module brewmaxx web portal has be to licensed end once (for free). This licence is independent to licence size or number of users.

brewmaxx connect Parameterizable communication interface

Areas of application

“Parameterisation instead of programming” is the central principle of the entire system platform. brewmaxx connect uses this principle to implement communication interfaces between a brewmaxx system and external systems. Client/Server and host-based systems (e.g. ERP, LIMS or QMS) as well as intelligent measuring and analysis instruments, e.g. inspection systems and weighing systems, are supported.

brewmaxx connect provides a parameterisation frontend in the central engineering environment which can be used to fully plan an interface. To do so, the communication transactions (e.g. materials data, recipes, orders) and their contents are parameterised after the target system-dependent selection of suitable com-munication types. The system offers a detailed online analysis function, which allows an extensive analysis of all interfaces implemented with brewmaxx connect.

Licencing model

The brewmaxx connect module licence is a client/server-based system component, and the functionality provided by the server requires a licence. The functions required at the workstations are integrated in the client applications of the base system and do not require additional licences for clients or PLCs.

System requirements Database software

To cover typical brewmaxx installations best, several Microsoft SQL server and access licences are available. In order to choose the correct MS SQL licences, be sure what kind of brewmaxx system (production server or webserver) is to be installed. The following MS SQL licences are available:

1. Microsoft SQL Server for brewmaxx process control systems:

The following licences are available for the necessary installation of the database software:

▪ MS SQL Server Package (for production server) Includes the necessary Microsoft licences for operating a brewmaxx production server. The second SQL license is to be taken for either a Redundancy, a Test or a Training Package by brewmaxx (2x MS SQL Server Runtime, English).

▪ MS SQL Access Licence (CAL, Device) Includes the required Microsoft licence for accessing a client/workstation on the brewmaxx production server (1x MS SQL CAL, device access licence for SQL Server Runtime).

▪ As option with Web Portal: MS SQL Access Licence (CAL, User) Includes the required Microsoft licence for accessing a user on the brewmaxx Integrate webserver (1x MS SQL CAL, user access licence).

2. Microsoft SQL Server for brewmaxx MES solutions (brewmaxx Integrate):

The following licences are available for the necessary installation of the database software:

▪ MS SQL Server (for MES server) Includes the necessary Microsoft licence for operating a brewmaxx Integrate webserver (1x MS SQL Server, English).

▪ MS SQL Access Licence (CAL, User) Includes the required Microsoft licence for accessing a user on the brewmaxx Integrate webserver (1x MS SQL CAL, user access licence).

Licence informationThe database licences required for the system can be purchased as a so-called ISV version from ProLeiT. The use of ISV licences (Independent Software Vendor Royalty Contract) is connected to the database-superior brewmaxx system, i.e. such licences should only be used if they are ap-plied in connection with brewmaxx. This means that an SQL server licence should only be used on servers where brewmaxx is installed and an SQL client licence should only be used for accessing databases of a brewmaxx system.

Credit packages

Support Packages

Credits of the Support Packages are used to offset support services. Three different credit packages can be purchased by customers and partners with or without a Service Level Agreement being in place. The Support Packages can be ordered via ProLeiT AG only. Service charges can be offset with credits accord-ing to the actual SLA conditions.

Our credit system allows immediate access to our hotline support without the transactional overhead or delay of having to raise a purchase order adhoc.

Subsequent credit for system integrators & OEMs

Dependent on the turnover of the annual licence sales ProLeiT partners (system integrators and OEMs) can receive a subsequent credit. For detailed information please ask your sales representative at ProLeiT.

Ordering information Ordering updates and upgrades

Requirements

Extensions and upgrades are always ordered with reference to an existing brewmaxx installation which can be clearly identified via the following criteria:

▪ Licence

▪ Plant

▪ Server ID

The information stored in the existing system installation and which can be read via the Configuration Manager is relevant here. Size upgrades and function upgrades to a server ID can be summarised in an or-der if they take place within the current system version. A version upgrade always requires a separate order due to processing-related reasons

Example of a licence order

A process control system, operated with brewmaxx V8.20 with a licence size of 750 – consisting of one server, two controllers and three workstations – is extended and updated to brewmaxx V9.xx.xx. Two additional controllers and five additional workstations are required for the new plant sections. Furthermore, it should be upgraded to licence size “unlimited”

Current: brewmaxx, V8.20, licence size 750, 1 server, 2 PLCs, 3 clients

Target: brewmaxx, V9.xx.xx, licence size “unlimited”, 1 server, 4 PLCs, 8 clients

1. Order Version Upgrade:

▪ 1x brewmaxx, base licence, V9.xx.xx, licence size 750

▪ 1x brewmaxx PLC, extension licence, V9.xx.xx

▪ 2x brewmaxx Client, extension licence, V9.xx.xx

▪ 1x Version Upgrade (1 version step), V8.20 -> V9.xx.xx

2. Order Size Upgrade:

▪ 1x Size Upgrade brewmaxx, V9.xx.xx, licence size 750 -> unlimited

3. Order extension licences:

▪ 2x brewmaxx PLC, extension licence (for a total of 4 PLCs)

▪ 5x brewmaxx Client, extension licence (for a total of 8 clients)

4. Order MS SQL access licences:

▪ 5x SQL Access Licence (CAL, Device)

Please refer to the current price list for the respective licence fees.

Untested hardware and software

Untested hardware and software

brewmaxx has been tested using the hardware and software specified in the separate document “System Requiremetns”. ProLeiT will accept no liability for correct operation if unsuitable hardware and software are used!

The software packages mentioned in the separate document “System Requiremetns” have been subjected to extensive integration tests and can thus be applied without restrictions. Otherwise, the following rules apply:

▪ 1. Service packs and cumulative updates for new plants: New service packs and cumulative updates for Microsoft products are tested and explicitly released by ProLeiT AG. Release for actual application is recorded on a data medium.

▪ 2. Service packs and cumulative updates for existing plants in productive operation: Installation of service packs and cumulative updates for Microsoft products that are newer than the ones stated in the separate document “System requirements” should generally only take place after consulting ProLeiT AG.

▪ 3. Combinations of other operating system versions and SQL servers not stated in the separate documents “System Requirements” and “Release Notes” are not supported by Plant iT.

Operating system upgrades

Prior to using regularly released safety updates and other operating system hotfixes, please note that the operating system manufacturer does guarantee correct system functioning after an upgrade (refer to “Supplemental EULA” displayed for hotfix installation and which must be accepted). The aforementioned rules therefore apply to the installation of service packs and cumulative updates for new plants as well as for existing plants in productive operation.
