BigSweetYield Research on CitrusRecently, the BigYield.us Eastern Division began researching the effects of using BigSweetYield on citrus. Specifically, the research focused on how BigSweetYield affected trees infected with Huanglongbing (citrus greening disease) when used an a penatrent agent for an antibiotic for the disease. As you can see below, the trees that did not have BigSweetYield suffered a large amount of fruit-drop, and the trees were much thinner than trees that had BigSweetYield applied.

At BigYield.us, we view supplementing micronutrient levels as one – in many cases, untapped – strategy to increase yields. The limiting factor concept, described by Purdue University, suggests

that crops can only perform as well as permitted by the nutrient or other factor in lowest supply relative to needs.

When growing crops, this has real implications for yield potential. If micronutrient availability falls short, then that deficiency could inhibit the crop from attaining its yield potential.

BigYield.us Builds Lab to Enhance Product Testing

In January of 2018, BigYield.us built a new lab facility at their Garden City, Missouri location. The lab will serve several purposes, mainly to enhance product testing of all BigYield.us products.

Products will be tested for reactions to extreme heat and cold, as well as several other on-farm condition possiblities. BigYield.us is continually working to keep the quality of it’s products as high as possible and to make sure that growers have no issues with mixing and application.

Altitude Technology Can Better Inform In-Field Management Decisions

New altitude technology enables growers to regularly collect important crop data and map it. Farmers can use the information to better manage their fields and cultivate a healthy crop. During the growing season, the altitude technology involves flying an airplane above fields every 10 days to 14 days. During those outings, the airplane collects four types of visual imagery that it then maps.

First, an RGB, or red-green-blue, image shows a field as you would see it with your eyes. Second, a thermal sensor collects heat data to map. Third, an NDVI image assesses a crop’s chlorophyll health. Fourth, an NIR analysis supplements data sets that measure field heat and plant health. Data maps are returned to growers within 24 hours. Farmers then use the information to address problem areas in fields and adjust their management approaches as necessary.
