Information in this Certificate may assist the client, planning supervisor, designerand contractors to address their obligations under these Regulations.See section: 6 Delivery and site handling (6.1).

• The product reduces the risk ofcracks and micro cracks normallyassociated with the early dryingof a concrete surface.

Confirmation of Danish AgrémentNo 2002/021 issued by ETA —Danmark A/S to the Certificateholder.

Technical Specification5 Description5.1 Formtex is a controlled permeability formwork (CPF)liner that is tensioned over or glued to most conventionaltypes of formwork.

5.2 The product is a two-layer, non-wovenpolypropylene fabric. It has a weight of 250 gm–2 andthickness of 1.2 mm.

5.3 The fabric is thermally bonded on one side tocreate a filter, and the non-thermally bonded sidefunctions as a drainage layer. The pore size of the filteris designed to retain the cement particles while allowingwater to pass through.

5.4 Fresh concrete is placed and vibrated as usual, and excess water and entrapped air are drained fromthe concrete surface by the liner. If the liner is left on theconcrete, it can be used to assist with further curing.

5.5 Quality control checks are made on the rawmaterials and on the final product for:• strength• creep• elongation• air permeability• tear strength.

6 Delivery and site handling6.1 Formtex CPF is supplied in rolls with a width of2.75 m, 3.2 m or 4.0 m and a length of 50 m or100 m, weighing from 34 kg to 100 kg(1).(1) Special widths can be produced for larger projects.

6.2 The product is delivered in rolls, wrapped inpolyethylene bearing a self-adhesive label showing theCertificate holder’s name and roll identification number.

6.3 The rolls should be stored vertically or horizontallyon a smooth, clean surface. Opened rolls should beprotected from direct sunlight. Formtex CPF alreadyinstalled on formwork should not be exposed to sunlightfor periods exceeding two weeks.

Design Data7 General7.1 Formtex Controlled Permeability Formwork Linershould be specified and used strictly in accordance withthis Certificate and the Certificate holder’s instructions.

7.2 The Certificate holder should be consulted foradvice on design, and on the suitability of anyproposed admixtures.7.3 The product should be correctly tensioned inaccordance with section 13 of this Certificate.7.4 This Certificate covers the initial use of the productonly, and not its re-use.7.5 Some colour variation of the concrete surface mayoccur.

8 Characteristic properties8.1 When tested in accordance with EN 965 : 1995,the product had a mean weight of 250 gm–2 and amean thickness of 1.2 mm.8.2 When tested in accordance with ASTM D 4533 :1991, the product had a mean tear strength of 250 Nlongitudinal and 200 N traverse.8.3 When tested to the optical method, the producthad a mean pore size of <30 µm.8.4 When tested in accordance with the EuropeanDisposables and Non-Wovens Association method, theproduct had an air permeability of 250 ls–1m–2.

9 Properties in relation to fire9.1 Formtex CPF melts at 165°C and starts shrinkingsignificantly above 120°C, therefore, direct exposure toheat should be avoided.9.2 In particular, welding or steel cutting should not becarried out close enough to damage the liner.

10 Properties of the resultant concrete10.1 Comparative properties of concrete producedwith Formtex CPF on one side and without on the otherare listed in Table 1. The concrete used is a C45 gradeconcrete with a Portland cement content of 340 kgm–3

and water/cement ratio of 0.53.

10.2 When compared to equivalent concrete castwithout the product, concrete cast against Formtex CPF:• has an enhanced resistance to carbon dioxide and

ingress of chloride ions• has an enhanced resistance to frost attack• reduces the permeability of the concrete• has an enhanced surface tensile strength and surface

hardness.

11 DurabilityWhen compared to equivalent concrete cast without theproduct, cured concretes cast using Formtex CPF havebeen shown to have enhanced properties. Therefore, useof the product will produce a more durable concrete.

Installation12 General12.1 Formtex CPF should be installed strictly inaccordance with this Certificate and the Certificateholder’s instructions.12.2 Form oils or release agents may not be used withthe product.

13 Fixing13.1 The product must be tensioned over the face ofthe backing formwork in accordance with this Certificateand the Certificate holder's instructions. It is importantthat the product is tensioned in both the longitudinal andtransverse directions, to avoid the formation of folds andundue dimensional changes induced by exposing theproduct to low levels of heat.13.2 The liner should continue under the formwork toensure the adequate disposal of water.

14 SupervisionThe level of supervision during the installation of FormtexCPF should be sufficient to ensure the quality ofworkmanship as described in BS 5328-1 : 1997,BS 5328-2 : 1997, BS 5328-3 : 1990, BS 5328-4 :1990 and BS 8000-2.2 : 1990.

Technical InvestigationsThe following is a summary of the technicalinvestigations carried out on Formtex ControlledPermeability Formwork Liner.

15 Tests15.1 As part of the assessment by ETA – Danmark A/Sleading to the issue of Agrément No 2002/0021, testswere carried out to determine:On Formtex• pore size• weight• thickness• air permeability• tear strength• composition.On the resultant concrete• surface tensile strength• initial surface absorption• surface hardness• sorptivity• carbonation resistance• chloride diffusion• freeze/thaw behaviour.

15.2 As part of the same assessment, an examinationwas made of existing data using concretes cast againstFormtex CPF with regard to:• water penetration• capillary absorption• tensile strength• wear resistance• chloride penetration• homogeneity• porosity• incidences of micro cracking• water sorptivity• carbonation• freeze/thaw resistance.

16 InvestigationsThe manufacturing process was examined, including themethods adopted for quality control, and details obtainedon the quality and composition of the materials used.

Additional informationThe management systems of Fibertex A/S have beenassessed and registered as meeting the requirements ofDS EN ISO 9001 : 1994 by the Danish StandardsAssociation (Certificate Number 28) andDS EN ISO 14001 : 1996 (Certificate Number 214).
