Proctored Virtual Learning Environment (PVLE) When schools are under-staffed, students are at risk academically. Students may not have access to a qualified, subject-area teacher for support and feedback, or rigorous curriculum that meets standards. These factors can impact students’ readiness for high stakes tests and future courses of study, and may jeopardize a school’s funding and public confidence. Schools that implement a blended learning approach that pairs online learning with a certified teacher and an adult in the classroom are showing promise in effectively addressing teacher vacancies. What is PVLE? A Proctored Virtual Learning Environment (PVLE) is a unique implementation of digital learning that combines face-to-face support and virtual learning to better support students. While completing online courses, students have: in-person support from an on-site proctor who offers motivational support and ensures students are on task course-specific support from their virtual instructor who grades assignments and provides feedback in-the-moment support from on demand tutors who are subject-matter experts Learn more about how a PVLE can maximize the impact of your virtual learning program. PHYSICAL LEARNING SPACE Learning along with peers in a dedicated space can increase focus and decrease distractions. Students can learn in a traditional classroom, learning lab, internet café, media center, or another physical education setting. This could occur during an assigned class period, study hall, before or after school program, or another time. ON-SITE PROCTOR A teacher or other adult mentor provided by the district to facilitate student engagement and safety. Can provide reteaching, enrichment, accommodations from an IEP or 504 plan, or opportunities for projects and other hands-on learning. VIRTUAL TEACHER A subject-area certified virtual teacher who monitors student progress, grades assignments, holds virtual office hours, schedules individual virtual meetings as needed, and uses data to inform frequent communication with students, parents, and the on-site proctor, ensuring appropriate individualized instruction for each student, including those with an IEP or 504 plan. CONCEPT COACH (On Demand Tutoring) Delivers real-time, on demand, one-on-one tutoring in secondary core courses. Concept coaches are available six days a week, anytime students need help. Students contact the concept coach when they need assistance with course content. CURRICULUM Rigorous standards-aligned curriculum that can be customized to meet the unique needs of students. Delivered through a combination of teacher-led videos, interactive media, and text to provide a varied approach that addresses multiple learning modalities. SUCCESS COACH A success coach from Edgenuity collaborates with on-site proctors, virtual teachers, and district staff to devise engagement plans for students who may be struggling and offer other support and strategies for student success and academic achievement.
