PROJECT & RESEARCH

Design a series of brand labels for three different condiments. The goal is to promote an ethnically authentic condiment to a broader multi-ethnic market.

We started the project by researching Japanese culture, cuisine, design, and packaging, gathering images and information. This helped us to develop a sense of cultural knowledge, an important concept so that when we apply visual language to the labels, we do so correctly and authentically.

INSPIRATION

Once we picked the concept sketches for further exploration, we created an Inspiration Board. This board is made up of images of Japan that we want to reflect in our concepts.

DESIGN CONCEPTS

Concept-wise, we decided to incorporate origami animals. By giving each jar a different animal, we gave each label a personality. This makes the condiments fun and inviting while unifying them as a set.
