1 Objective
Ensuring that any damage to health can be prevented by using the correct personal
protection equipment when it is not possible to provide sufficient protection with
technical and/or organisational facilities.
Report Procedure-P103:
Occupational health and safety rounds
Page number 3
2 Target group
All people who perform work or who are present at one of the Essent Production
sites for some other reason.
3 Scope
All Essent Production sites, in particular
o With regard to work linked to a work permit;
o Al locations where personal protection equipment is indicated through
standardised labels/signs or within areas indicated with (blue) lines.
4 Definitions and Abbreviations
Personal Protection Equipment
Personal Protection Equipment comprises every item that is intended to be worn or
held by an employee to protect him or her against one or more risks that may
threaten his or her health and safety when working. This also includes all additions
and accessories.
PPE
Personal Protection Equipment
5 References
o Legislation related to working conditions
o This procedure is under process “Manage access areas”.
6 Responsibilities and Authorisations
Every employee must wear the prescribed PPE and must maintain the items.
Everybody must call each other to account with regard to the wearing obligation
and the condition of the PPE items. Managers and supervisors must foster the use
and maintenance of PPE.
Every employee who performs work is responsible of checking which special PPE
items must also be used before the work is actually performed. Everybody can
obtain advice and information from the Safety Officer at the site should anything be
unclear regarding the use of special PPE items.
Report Procedure-P103:
Occupational health and safety rounds

7 Way of working
7.1 Use
PPE can be classified into the following 2 main groups:
o General PPE regarding which the use is specified at all sites through standardised
labels, signs or (blue) lines, that is:
- Safety hard hats - Safety glasses with side shields
- Work clothes where arms and legs are covered
- Safety footwear
- Gloves - Hearing protection if necessary
For specifications see annex 1
o Special PPE that is essential to perform work to ensure that this work is
performed safely. This PPE must be determined through a work permit/task risk
analysis and must be specified on the work permit.
For specifications see annex 2
7.2 Procurement and issue
The Logistics department is responsible for the procurement of all PPE for Essent
employees in accordance with the standards set for this in annexes 1 and 2.
You may not order individually from suppliers.
Contractors are themselves responsible for the procurement and issue of PPE.
This PPE must also meet the specifications as defined in annexes 1 and 2.
Replacement or new types of PPE may only be procured after approval from the HSE
Safety department.
Managers and supervisors must make PPE available to their employees.
The direct manager of the employee is responsible for ensuring that the people
performing the work are given instructions and information regarding the risks, use
and maintenance of the PPE.
7.3 Replacement
Every user must regularly check their PPE for faults and the validity date. PPE items
that are faulty or defective or regarding which the validity date has elapsed must be
immediately replaced. The Essent direct manager is responsible in ensuring that the
old PPE item is handed in at the Logistics department’s warehouses when it is
replaced. The Logistics department is in charge of the collective disposal of the old
replaced PPE items.
Report Procedure-P103:
Occupational health and safety rounds
Page number 5
The immediate manager of a contractor is responsible for ensuring that old PPE
items leave the site and are destroyed in an environmentally responsible manner
when they are replaced.
PPE for visitors must also be in good conditions. The person issuing the PPE to
visitors is responsible for this.
8 Non-compliances and Additions
• Participants in excursions/guided tours are only obliged to use the hard hat and
safety glasses Essent issues within the specified routes. The excursion leader will
ensure these items are used;
• Work clothes worn by contractors do not have to meet the criterion of being anti-
static unless a specific situation demands this;
• Essent work clothes are washed by a specialised company in accordance with a
contract with the Logistics department. This company also monitors the
maintenance conditions and current requirements.
9 Forms/Equipment
• Safety glasses with corrective glass
• Computer glasses
• oto plastics
