To complete this report fruitfully we used combination ofquestionnaire, interview and case study methods. For casestudy method, we chose three students from three departmentsto have their opinion.

PREFACE

This report has been prepared with a great pleasure andenthusiasm since this report has improved our knowledge andawareness about the facts that the students of AIUB are facingdifferent types of problems in their day to day life, howtheir studies are affected by the improper maintenance of theAIUB properties, how their satisfaction level is decliningrapidly and how they overcome different types of problems bysuggesting co-operative solutions which would really work toreduce this problems. The problems and the dire distress ofthe students were observed for long time and this drive hasencouraged the report to be done with a view to find out themajor problems regarding the systems and suggesting somepossible solutions for the betterment of this university andits systems.

There is the combination of different types of questionnaire,survey, case studies in the research methodology in thisreport. Some AIUB students did these and from their

responsibility; the drawbacks of AIUB have been moreclarified. Apart from it, by discussing with the students, itwas come to know that there are some solutions that might befruitful and if properly followed these problems can bereduced and it might bring the satisfaction among thestudents.

By discussing the students through surveys, some findings cameinto view that is very much essential for making the reportfruitful, informative and at the same time acceptable. Thosefindings include some problems which are regularly faced bythe students and in which they are mostly fed up. Thosefindings are how the pre-registration system is causinganxiety among the students, about the lacking of propermaintenance of AIUB properties, the unhygienic condition ofwash rooms, insufficient accommodation in both study areas andlibrary, lift shortage problems, car parking relatedsufferings, university server problem , lack of computers andprinters comparing to the total number of students, highercost of foods in cafeteria comparing to the quality and manyother problems which affected the students on their studiesand the whole university life.

Analyzing the findings and by following the literature review,it it seen that students are mostly fed up with the pre-registration system and they want to move their permanentcampus immediately. Not only these systems, but also studentsare disappointed with many more problems of this university.but the matter of regret is that the AIUB authority does notcommunicate properly with the students, they are not willingto know what are the wrong with the students. SO this gapbetween the authority and the students are becoming larger andlarger day by day and the situation is becoming worst. so theultimate result is the students dissatisfaction , depressionabout the systems, and bad impact over their lives. Even thisproblem is threatening for the reputation of AIUB. if theexisting students are not satisfied with the system, they willnot encourage others to study here. So these problems should

be solved and necessary steps should be taken to stop theseproblems with no delay. The authority, management and thestudents should listen to each other and they should decidesome decisions over that time.

This report presents the research, findings andrecommendations resulting from this project. The objective wasto compile and synthesize information on the status of theproblems of AIUB, misuse of rules and regulations currentuses, and lack of proper maintenance. In so doing, it lays thefoundation for the development of the overall systems of AIUBto satisfy the students and keep the reputation of AIUB up.

Every problem has a solution. If the methods of solution isapplied, its true it can be resolver that’s for sure.

ABSTRACT

After deregulation program, the participation of the privatesectors is increasing significantly in service sector inBangladesh. Higher education sub-sector is one of them. As areform initiative of public sector management governmentshifted its policy in early 1990s in higher education sector.Earlier public sector had monopoly in the tertiary level ofeducation. American International University - Bangladesh(AIUB) is a government approved private university founded in1994 by Dr. Anwarul Abedin. The university is an independentorganization with its own Board of Trustees. AMERICANINTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY-BANGLADESH (AIUB) envisions promotingprofessionals and excellent leadership catering to thetechnological progress and development needs of the country.

AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY-BANGLADESH (AIUB) iscommitted to provide quality and excellent computer-basedacademic programs responsive to the emerging challenges of thetime. It is dedicated to nurture and produce competent world-class professional imbued with strong sense of ethical valuesready to face the competitive world of arts, business,science, social science and technology.

The library of AIUB is the collection of the knowledge andbuilt up a balanced and rich collection in BusinessAdministration, Science and Technology, Computer, Arts andSocial Science. It is an open library system to students ofAIUB, which provides rich collection of books includingjournals, newsletter, thesis works, audio-visual materials andCDs. The total collection of the library is about 50,000including printed and non-printed resources.   

Information Communication Technology provides general-accesscomputing and communications facilities for the entireUniversity community, including a high-speed campus networklinked to the Internet, computing labs, and central e-mailservices.

But there has some problems in this University created overpasses of time. With the growth of its number of students itwas obvious to have some problem. The new thing is always moreefficient.

The facilities in previous and now are different. If somesmall steps are taken, it can be resolved. Students see theirproblem more closely than that of authority. It is the dutyfor students to sort out problems and their solution. And thisis done by this report.

Chapter-One

Introductory Discussion

Chapter Summary:

This chapter depicts the background of the research. Why thisissue has been taken as a research topic, what have thesignificance of the problem is, illustration and statement onthe problem been discussed here. Research objective andresearch question has been given in this chapter. With all ofthese, limitations of the study have also been focused in thelast part of the chapter.

1.0 CHAPTER 1

1.1 AIUB Overview

A university is a fountainhead of knowledge. New knowledge,skills and meaningful experiences spring from the university.To quench the thirst of individuals who are in search forwider horizon of learning and discover novel challenges inlife is the inherent intention of AIUB even at the time of itsconception. Students are honed and nurtured to become Leadersin their respective chosen discipline.  It continuouslytransforms students into active   participants in thedevelopment process in both curricular and extra-curricularactivities. It has built and maintained its reputation as aleader in the pursuit of quality and excellence. The primarybeneficiaries are the students who stand to benefit from allthe resources and services provided by the university. Underthe stewardships of dedicated and visionary founders, dynamicmanagement, competent faculty and skillful support staff, the

university continues to be the venue for change and producingleaders in various arenas of endeavors.

1.2 Drawbacks of AIUB

There is no unmixed blessing in the earth. Though it is a wellreputed university, still there is some lacking in the rulesand regulations which is affecting on the whole system thataffect the students a lot on their student life. Lack ofadequate maintenance of resources and negligence from theadministrations causing the dissatisfaction of the students,as well as the faculties. These matters may also cause harm tothe students’ studies as well as the reputation of AIUB.

1.3 OBJECTIVES

The objectives are as follows

Broad objective:

The broad objective of this study is to clarify the problems in the system of AIUB and to develop the circumstance of AIUB.

Specific objectives:

To focus on daily problems in AIUB. To speed up development process. To ensure a healthy environment. To establish strong communication between students and

authority. To enhance the reputation of AIUB.

1.4 SCOPE

Through this research we will try to focus the problems facedby the students of AIUB regularly which affect in theirstudies and which may cause the dissatisfaction of thestudents. We will try to cover up the problems related to therules, regulations, maintenance of properties, educationfacilities, systems and relationship between authority andstudents and we would evaluate whether these problems reallyexist and how severe they are. After sorting out the problems,we would try to suggest some possible solutions, which mayhelp to develop the overall condition of AIUB and wouldpresent the students a healthy educational environment

1.5 RESEARCH METHODOLGY Our research methodology consists of different types ofquestionnaire and a survey which was examine among thestudents of AIUB to make this report more effective, fruitfuland the productive one. 1.5.1 QUESTIONNAIREQuestionnaire part consists of twenty questions, which arebased on the perspective of students about AIUB. Apart fromit, there are some options for the students to suggest theiropinion for the betterment of the overall condition of AIUBthrough the questionnaire.

1.5.2 Survey

We survey among 20 students of AIUB and they were asked manyquestions related to AIUB systems, rules, regulations, andmany other topics. After the mutual discussion, we came toknow about the satisfaction level of the students, sectors todevelop or expand immediately and best solutions for thedevelopment.

1.6 LIMITATIONS

We had some limitations to complete the report they are-

Discussion

2.1 Discussion on the drawbacks of AIUB

AIUB is one of the best universities among all the privateuniversities in Bangladesh. Although AIUB is a well-known andat the same time it has a high reputation, it has someproblems too that the students are facing in there day to daylife. If these problems can be solved, it could be better thanall the other universities.

We tried to make the report realistic with mentioning theopinions and suggestions of the students about the problemsthey regularly face. Different types of comment, opinions,suggestion rose about the drawbacks and how to develop theconditions. Some are so annoyed, some want the changesimmediately and some are suggesting some solutions that wouldreally work.

2.2 Findings

We found many problems regarding students’ dissatisfactionaround the university through discussing with them.Irregularity, lack of proper maintenance and ignorance areresponsible for this dissatisfaction and ultimately theresults are causing the harm to the students as well as thewhole university.

2.2.1 Pre-Registration

Only because of lack of Sections, there are lots of problemsin our Pre-Registration Program. There is no perfect routineand timing so that students sometimes are not able to takesuitable Courses at out desired time. Problem to take major isa bigger issue of our AIUB day Life. Even sometimes studentsbecome worried and confused that whether they really can takethe major or not. Insufficient sections of the major coursesand unfavorable schedule of that sections cause lots oftroubles for the students and causing the depression.

2.2.2 Shortage of Lift

Among all of our seven campuses, students have to go forclasses in five campuses. Among these five, students areallowed to use the lift only in one campus. Almost in all thecampuses lifts are only for faculty use. So that students facea great problem to ups and downs by stairs even on 6th floor.In those campuses which have life also create problem bystudent’s line in front of lift. It takes maximum time to goon the class. So students reach late in the class room andmiss some lecture.

2.2.3 Wash Room

Washroom is a common phenomenon of the daily life of thestudents in AIUB. There is no sufficient space to feelcomfortable in the rest room of both ladies and gents. So itreally affects the life of the students. On the other handthere is unclean wash room give nothing good for students.

Sometimes water is not available in the wash rooms and thattime students fall in the great trouble.The insufficientnumber of wash rooms and the unhygienic environment even thegerms inside the wash rooms are causing serious diseases.

2.2.4 Parking Zone

Many of the students come in the university by driving theircars and as a student he/she has the right to park his/her carsafely. But it’s a matter of great regret that our campus hasno enough parking spaces to make the students’ vehicles safeand secured. There is parking space only for faculties not forstudents. It’s really bad impact over the satisfaction of thisuniversity. The students face hassle to be comfort with theirvehicles.

2.2.5 Small Auditorium

AIUB has only one Auditorium with the accommodation of about200 people at the same time. But the problem is, it is toosmall to make a huge program where all the students of alldepartments can come and seat together to enjoy andparticipate in the program.When VIP guests are invited to theuniversity then the big programs will be held in the outsidehotels and other places to do something big like concerts,Charity Show, Film Show, Business Conferences, Long termthings etc.

2.2.6 Lack of Indoor Games Opportunity

There have not any opportunity to play any kinds of games likesnooker, carom, chess, badminton and many more. So thatstudents have nothing for passing time and playing games.Because of that students are very fade up about their culture.

2.2.7 Guest Room

There is any particular guest room in AIUB campus. So thatGuardians face problems regularly and they sit beside thecampus or buildings. This situation can be compared to beshowing dishonor to the guardians. Some other friends of thestudents do not have any opportunity to come into the campusand meet their friends. It happens only because of theuniversity has no Guest room.

2.2.8 Lack of computers And Printers in study room

In the study room there have not enough computers for thestudents to make their work together. University authoritydoes not take necessary steps to solve the problem. There alsohave not enough Printers in the study room. Students faceshuge problem for the print-out. They have to waste a huge timefor printing papers, documents and other purposes. For thosereasons student lose their time and energy. This problem canbe solved only by increasing the number of computer andprinter. So we find that students need more computer andprinter for doing better performance in their studies.

2.2.9 High price of foods in cafeteria

In the cafeteria there are lots of variety foods only forstudents but the price is so high to buy. It is not possiblefor all the students to afford this price regularly. Even theprice is very high comparative to the quality of the foods. Soevery student wants the cheap rate price menu, then they feelmuch better.

2.2.10 Own Campus

AIUB has no own campus and only because of that all thestudents, faculties, admins, chairperson, workers each andevery person have a huge risk to cut off. Because we neverfeel safe without our own campus. In this situation we alsohave problems with our seven campuses. In the class time therewas a routine to go one campus to another and students wastetheir valuable time for it. We need to have our campuses be

very close with one another. The reputation of AIUB isdeclining because of not moving to the permanent campus.

2.2.11 Wi-Fi Network

Though AIUB is a well-known university where education istechnology based, AIUB has a slow Wi-Fi network, so thatstudents face the problem to browsing internet & downloadfiles. It takes a lot of time to do a work in a mean time.They have Wi-Fi network but there is no first class facilityto make the work perfectly. So that all the student’s facehuge problems with the net connection. As a technologicallydeveloped university, the net connection should be highlypowered and it should be modified time to time.

2.2.12 Insufficient Study Area

In almost all the campuses there are particular study area forthe convenience of the students to prepare their lessons intheir break times. But it's also a matter of great regret thatthe study rooms are not very well structured. Properventilation is really needed to keep the students safe fromsuffocation . The study areas are totally wrapped up with theglasses and sometimes the air conditioners don't work properlyand the whole environment becomes full of carbon-dy-oxide.It's really impossible for the students to stay on that roomon that moment. So the main purpose of this study areas arenot fulfilled rather it harms the attention of the studentsabout their studies.

2.3 Analysis

With the response of our survey, we came to know manyreactions, suggestions and affects in the life of thestudents. Many matters came into view, many facts are markedwhich should be immediately changed or modified. Through thediscussion, the students shared how badly affected they arewith some of the systems of AIUB, how they face these problemsregularly but there is no remedy for it, so there are untoldsufferings of the students and it’s really an important issuefor what these things are causing continuously and how quicklythey can be solved and ensure a better educationalenvironment.

2.3.1 Pre-Registration

Student face huge problem at the time of pre-registration.There are some effective problem generally faces in this pre-registration time. The types of this problem are given below:

(a) Lack of Section: Because of proper quantity of sectionstudent face really huge problem. That’s why student can’ttake proper time, their Choiseul subject by their own.

(b) No Perfect Routine: Without proper & perfect routine wecan’t make the accurate course plan so that student face hugeproblem because of the lack of proper & perfect routine.

(c) Problem to take Major: As the students can't take theirmajor courses properly because of lack of sections, theyaffect in the long run. Even sometimes they might miss a veryimportant course because of these reasons.

2.3.2 Shortage of Lift

That is an important problem for student the lack of quantityof Lift. Here we can see that the consecutive class of studentheld in different floor at different campus. So that’s createda huge problem which highly effect on student by physically &mentally. Because of the insufficient of lift here, studentsface many kinds of problem. Some problems are given below:

2.3.3 Wash Room Problem

Here student face incredible problem in the wash room. Here wecan see that most of the time our wash remain too much dirty &remain bad smell always around the wash room. Also by theincreasing of quantity of students the quantity & quality inwash room facility really so poor. Here top management of Aiubshould be take necessary steps to prevent the solution of washroom facility.

2.3.4 Insufficient study Area

Because of the Insufficient of study area student affected toohighly. Also here we can see that the shortage of computer instudy room, lack of proper space of seat, lack of perfectcommunication in study room.

2.3.5 Lack of accommodation in Library

In library area there are also some problems for thestudents. the number of books are insufficient and there isnot enough seats to accommodate many students at a time.

2.3.6 Shortage of the space of Car Parking

It’s a huge problem for Students that they can’t park theirpersonal car in a specific place to safely park. So everydaystudent face huge problem to park their cars in a certain areaand for this reason students feel unsafe & insecurity fortheir personal vehicles.

2.3.7 Own Campus

AIUB have no own campus that’s why student face some problemin their daily life. There are 7 campus of AIUB those are

placed in different places around the certain area. But herestudent face huge problem that there are no gap betweenconsecutive classes so during the time of one campus toanother campus sometimes student face incredible problem intheir daily life such as. To crosses the roads in difficultywithout any over pass or over bridge, sometime student misstheir quiz, they miss their subjective theoretical ormathematical topic which is very important for students.

Chapter-FiveConclusion

Whenever we think, we think big, whenever we dream, we dreamof the best. Every students of AIUB wants AIUB to be the bestuniversity in BANGLADESH, an even wants to see it as one ofthe most desired university of the world. It might seem to beimpossible to some but all the students believe that it’s verymuch possible. The present situation is that it is one of thebest universities of ASIA.

Students, who are graduated from here, are getting good jobsand going abroad for higher education. In every sector now-a-days AIUB- students are getting in. the fact is the system wehave is similar to European countries do have. As samestandard is maintained we can consider it to be similar totheirs’.

We feel proud to be in the university like AIUB and we shouldbe. We always want the best for our varsity. One day AIUB willbe one of the most desirable universities of the world andstudents from abroad will come to AIUB to have their degreeand to do PhD.

Recommendation

Where there is a problem there is solution too. Wehave sorted out some problems and we tried our bestto give some solutions to make this problem solved assoon as possible.

6.1 Gap between consecutive classes

It will be very wise to keep 10minutes gap after oneclass is over. It will not be that hard to change theclass time a bit. If this is done the students andthe faculties will be able to attend the classes intime. And concentration of students will be high whenthey are relaxed to get in the class. It is reallyharsh to go to one campus to another within a veryshort time. It will help the students very much.

6.2 Pre-registration system

The main problem to take section is lack of section.So number of section should be increased withproportion to number of students. Pre-registrationcan be run in two steps they are –

The band width can be increased so that the server isnot clashed. If it is done the pre-registrationsystem will be more smooth and faster.

The number of section of majors must have to beincreased so that the students can get their desiredmajor. If one student is doing major at his subjectis interested to helps him to do better.

Server of AIUB should be stronger and more securedto avoid unwanted interference and that will makepre-registration more easily.

6.3 Wi-Fi network

The Wi -Fi network of AIUB can be improved by settingup strong Wi -Fi equipment’s. More routers can beadded with the present ones, that will do.

6.4 Shortage of lift

The lift is not adequate. For this, in campus atleast injured & sick students should be allowed touse the lift. In campus-2 one of the lift is keptidle that can be allowed for the students. In campus-7 officials should use the alternative lift.

6.5Wash room

The wash room is unhygienic most of the time. Thatshould be cleaned within a fixed time. The swapperswashes it when officials visits and during class isgoing on while it should be done before class. Evensometimes wash rooms are closed by the name ofwashing. No low commode is in AIUB which should behere. Besides for high commode there should becommode tissue for safety but that is not provided.

6.6 Study area

Study area is not adequate in AIUB. The number ofstudy area can be increased which make environment of

study will be ensured. Besides, the number of chairscan be increased. And study area should be used forstudy only not as gossiping area.

6.7 Parking

Parking area is very much compacted. The cars andother vehicles should be placed carefully and in aplanned way to use the roads and places.

6.8 Lack of opportunity

Most of the time students cannot attend in the co-curricular activities for having class. If they wantto do so they have to miss the class. For this theprograms can be arranged in the weekends orconsidering the class time.

6.9 Indoor game facility

It is very easy to arrange for indoor games so thatstudents can atten the games and can remove monotonyof busy life and entertain themselves. It will makethe students physical and mentally strong and keepthem away from bad habits.

6.10 Guest room

It's too easy to have guest room in the varsity. Thatwill help the students to invite other universitystudents for co-operative work and also allow theguardians to see in what environment the students arestudying. It will improve the reputation too.

6.12 High price of foods in cafeteria

The foods of the cafeteria is costly than outsideand the quality of foods is not as good as it shouldbe. The price is high but quality is poor. It isunexpected to all of the students. If authority takeessential action against it , the problem can beeasily solved. If action is taken the cafeteria willhave to provide quality foods.

The number of chairs in cafeteria has to be increasedtoo. So that students do not have to have food onstanding
