Styli with sphere / carbide shaft
Styli with a carbide shaft are characterised by their
high stiffness. Carbide shafts are used in styli with
small shaft-diameters or in stepped styli. With large
shaft diameters and/or long styli, weight could be
an issue. In those cases we recommend using styli
with carbon fibre shafts instead.
Straight shaft / ruby sphere
Styli with a ruby sphere and a straight carbide
shaft are used in all standard applications. Ruby is
an extremely hard material that can be shaped into
a very accurate sphere.

Styli
Diamond styli
Diamond is the hardest material known in the
world. Due to its outstanding properties, it opens
up completely new applications for scanning of
extremely hard or soft materials. When scanning
soft aluminum alloys with Diamond!Scan styli, no
material build-up occurs. When scanning hard
ceramics or cast iron, no wear can be observed on
the sphere.
Test Dimond!Scan and profit from its advantages:
- less down time of your cmm due to fewer
changes of used styli
- more stable and confident measuring processes,
because the sphere does not change its shape.
Scanning stylus with thread M5, shaft tungsten
carbide shaft and diamond sphere. The deviation
from the perfect sphere is below 0,25 µm. The
diameter tolerance is +/-20 µm. Special lengths
can be provided upon request.

Because of its frictional behavior it is often used as
an alternative to ruby when scanning very hard or

Silicon nitrideStyli with silicon nitride spheres are an alternative
to styli with ruby spheres. Unlike ruby, silicon
nitride is polycrystalline and while not being as
hard as ruby, it has a higher preasure resistance.
This has a positive effect on its friction behaviour
when scanning very hard or very soft materials.

They can be mounted directly to a stylus system.

ThermoFit stylus extensions are thermally stable
and keep their length even with fluctuating tempe-
ratures.
Unlike traditional carbon-fiber extensions, thermal
torsion has nearly no effect.
Aluminum and titanium extensions are used for
lower performance requirements. Aluminum is very
light, while titanium has a lower thermal linear
expansion with higher stiffness at a relatively low
weight.

Stylus Extensions
Measuring difficult-to-access areas
Stylus extensions are screwed directly to the cube
or adapter plate. They enable the assembly of long
styli and large styli systems to measure difficult-
to-access features on a workpiece. The range
requirements are based on the permissible weight,
stiffness and thermal stability.
If the accessibility allows it, we advise you to use
stylus extensions with a diameter as large as
possible, because bending stiffness increases with
the diameter.
To achieve optimal and reproducible measuring
results, it is inevitable to use extremely light and
thermally stable stylus extensions. Therefore, the
material used for very long stylus extensions is a
key factor.
Our unique ThermoFit stylus extensions consist of
highly stiff titanium end caps and thermally stable
carbon-fiber tubes. These tubes are manufactured
on our own machines by using a specially deve-
loped winding technology. This combination of
materials and the gluing-/cutting technology

For a detailed description of the accessories for

This 11mm diameter ThermoFit Silver stylus exten-
sion has the usual M5 thread on one end and
a cone receiver on the other. The cone receiver
allows the insertion of various rotary, angle, and
star units (available separately) using a cone adap-
ter. This reduces the number of individual parts to
be mounted and is also cost-effective.

Plate Extensions
This chapter lists various plate extensions that can
be mounted to the MT/VAST adapter plate with
the part number 600667-9611-000. The chapter
on adapter plates contains more information on
complete adapter plates with an already integrated
ThermoFit plate extension.
More productivity
through fewer interfaces
For the assembly of extremely stiff and light styli
systems, it is best to use plate extensions with
proven ThermoFit technology. The ThermoFit plate
extension is directly connected with the adapter
plate, instead of having a cube in between. This
reduces the number of connections, saves up to
25% in weight and nearly doubles the stiffness.
The higher the stiffness of the styli system, the
faster you can scan without losing accuracy. This
results in higher throughput and more productivity.
The first extension at the adapter plate is critical
for the stiffness of the styli system. Particularly this
transition was optimized for highest stiffness of the
ThermoFit plate extensions. The titanium adapter
of the plate extension is manufactured from a
single piece, optimizing the flow of forces.

kit. Instead of multiple single components, we
now offer prealigned and exchangeable groups of
components, consisting of extensions and rotary
adapters, instead of multiple single components.
Either use angles, knuckle joints or star styli and
adjust them to the required angles. We also fasten
your adjustment for the use in production e.g. by
laser welding.
We quickly and precisely machine preassembled
angle blocks and solid angle blocks made of a high
quality titanium alloy for you. Or you can manuf-
acture the angles yourself out of our raw angle
blocks.
The online software stylus kit “Stylus System
Creator” SSC (e.g. included in Calypso Planner,
Caligo or iDA) provides all angle blocks as adju-
stable components. The design and production of
complex special angles can be highly time-consu-
ming. Shorten the start-up phase of your inspec-
tion plan by simply using the available elements.

The ThermoFit Pro extension 20/11 is used for
stylus systems which require a high bending resi-
stance. This extension consists out of two pieces,
one with a diameter of 11mm and one with a
diameter of 20mm. All pieces are connected by
the unique ZEISS cutting adhesive technology.

suitable for the use in assembling very stiff and

Rotary elementsOur original ZEISS rotary elements are based on
the concept of a play-free conical joint. The robust
M3 internal-thread styli with Torx joint ensure high
clamping forces. Even after repeated use, the rotary
elements can be adjusted well and hold their tracer

Manual shifting table
for all coordinate measuring machines
The shifting table enables the ergonomic loading
of the jig outside the measurement volume. The
shuttle path measures 440mm. The clamping sur-
face of the shifting plate measures 620x620mm
and is equipped with M12 threaded bores in a
100x100 mm grid. The permitted maximum load
is 150kg. A built-in cable pull for feeders enables
the easy integration of temperature sensors.

Changer Racks
ProMax – make use of the entire measuring range
ProMax is an upgrade to the Multi-Sensor-Rack
(MSR). To measure complex parts 15-25 styli
systems are often needed. Whenever large and
very long stylus systems are stored in a fixed
changer rack, it makes part of the measuring range
unavailable by limiting the movement paths of the
CMM’s sensor.
The solution: ProMax automatically moves the
Multi-Sensor Rack out of the measuring range
when the styli are no longer needed. Thus you do
not have to sacrifice any of the CMM’s valuable
measuring range and are still able to measure and
move around even very large parts.
ProMax is modularly designed, making it adjustable
to nearly any coordinate measuring machine from
Carl Zeiss. For retrofits of existing coordinate
measuring machines, the existing CALYPSO
measurement plans do not have to be modified.

systems worldwide enable our customers to
optimally use their measuring range. Please contact

Productivity at its best
Changer racks increase the capabilities of your
coordinate measuring machine. Our Multi-Sensor-
Racks (MSR) store and keep all styli systems that
you need for your measurements. The styli systems
are placed in the probe sockets on the MSR.
During a measuring run, the CMM acquires a new
styli system and places the no-longer-needed
system in the rack. This makes the MSR a prerequi-
site for interruption-free measuring runs.
You can freely select the number and position
of the sensor and stylus slots. The height of the
assembly levels can be set as needed. This provides
a high degree of flexibility and you can optimally
adapt the MSR to your requirements. Use our MSR
for the entire range of sensors from Carl Zeiss.

Changer Racks
ProMax
ProMax systems are automatically moving changer
racks for Zeiss CMMs. Usually, when a CMM is in
use, the probes necessary for the measuring are
provided within the measurement range. For com-
plex workpieces often ten to fifteen probes have to
be stored. As a result, up to 25% of the measure-
ment range of the CMM is used up by the changer
rack. Especially when large workpieces are measu-
red, where long probes are needed, the CMM is
restricted by fixed changer racks.
The solution: ProMax automatically transports the
probe sockets out of the measurement range
whenever a changer rack is not necessary.ProMax
is completely made up of modular components
and is therefore easily adaptable to your cmm and
quickly available. Individual linear modules are
fitted to a base frame. The modules can be adju-
sted sideways and in height. Existing measuring
plans do not have to be modified, since ProMax
plugs directly into the cmm control cabinet.

set-up device to make sure that your styli systems

Every coordinate measuring machine and every sensor

ments for its calibration process. That’s why we offer

These reference spheres can be mounted on all
RSH systems. They have a ceramic sphere and a M6
thread. The length from the middle of the sphere

Multi-Feature-Check
The Multi-Feature-Check is a method for the deter-
mination of the task specific measurement uncer-
tainty and of the measurement process suitability
for almost all workpiece features including form
and position, being found in coordinate metrology.
Relating to the particular CMM, measuring uncer-
tainties can be determined and a conclusion about
the test process applicability can be deducted.
The following inspection features can be selected
depending on the user’s parts spectrum. For these
features - related to the CMM used - the measure-
ment uncertainties can be determined and the
suitability of the measurements can be stated:
- diameter, length, angle
- straightness, flatness, roundness, cylindricity
- parallelism, squareness, inclination, position,
concentricity, coaxiality, symmetry
- radial run-out, axial run-out, total radial run-out,
total axial run-out
When using this method the measurement uncer-
tainties and the suitability of the measurements are
determined realistically taking into account
- the current on site temperatures
- by means of workpiece-similar material and
- surface properties of the test piece.

Probe-Check
Probe Check is a procedure to test the probing
and scanning behavior of the probe in combination
with the coordinate measuring system in accordance
with VDI/VDE 2617.
Description:
The artifact basis consists of a bend-resistant carrier
on which
- one ceramic sphere, 30 mm diameter and
- one setting ring gage, 30 mm diameter are
mounted.
- Both are calibrated, high-precision standards.
Needless to say, the artifact can be used on
CMMs from all manufacturers.

The monitoring procedure for coordinate measu-
ring machines with tactile and optical sensors.
The multi-sensor check is a procedure for the
standardized checking of coordinate measuring
machines (CMMs) with tactile/optical sensors. The
universal, calibrated test block is delivered with
complementing control and analysis software. The
multi-sensor check can be used to check coordina-
te measuring machines as per DIN EN ISO 10360-2
and VDI/VDE 2617 Sheet 6.1:
- Probe deviation of measuring head system
- Scan deviation of measuring head system
- Length measurement deviation
- Both the probe deviation and length measurement
deviation are checked using tactile and optical
methods.
The test block basis is a bend-resistant base body
to which high-precision, calibrated measuring
implements are applied:
- A special adjusting ring for tactile and optical
measurements, diameter of 16 mm
- A ceramic precision sphere, 25 mm in diameter
- Two parallel slip gauges, 50 mm and 200 mm in
length
- A glass scale, 200 mm in length; the glass scale
incorporates precise, circular markings for
checking the probe deviation and a division scale
for checking the length measurement deviation.

Interface pallet set
The changeover interface set contains a workpiece
pallet (with or without M6 hole patterns), a base
mounting plate, and two insertion aid units that
can be mounted to your coordinate measuring
machine. The base mounting plate and insertion
aid units are available for coordinate measuring
machines with M10 fixing holes, such as DuraMax,
and for coordinate measuring machines with M12

series basic measurement fixture. It has a 50 mm
