Noro Andriamanalina, Ph.D.Director of Academic and Professional Development,
Office for Diversity in Graduate Education
Imagine
It is Monday. You are in Central Park, New York City.I give you a car full of gas and $3,000.I tell you to drive to Hollywood, CA andmeet me at the Hollywood sign.Meeting time is 3:00 p.m., Friday.
Central Park, NY City
What questions would you ask me?
What would you do next?
Why are you at the U of MN ? Of all the things you could do, why are
you in graduate school? Why the U of MN? What do you hope to gain out of the
graduate experience?

Individual Development Plan
http://www.grad.umn.edu/current-students-academic-professional-development-building-your-plan/planThe IDP has three purposes: (1) identify an
individual’s professional goals and objectives, (2) assess the individual’s skill set relative to their career goals, and (3) develop a plan to acquire the skills and competencies needed to achieve short and long-term career objectives. The Graduate School strongly encourages students to use the IDP to communicate with mentors, as the IDP can be extremely useful in clarifying roles and expectations of students and mentors.
