Synopsis of coursework• Genre: Comedy• About: A fascist but big news station in

America known as Pro America is faced with reporting the outbreak of war to America and which eventually leads to Bill Mcfascist getting fired and embarking on a quest to tell the world about the war which challenges his beliefs.

Todorov – equilibrium • Equilibrium – The news station tells the nation of America the

news in a fascist nature, controlling them.• Disruption – War breaks out and Bill’s coverage of the war get’s him

fired• Conflict – Bill and the crew’s beliefs of fascism are challenged

and they report the news the way they think is right before Rick Sparkle does

• Resolution – The news from Bill and the crew reaches the world and they are informed of all the information that was kept hidden

• New equilibrium – Bill gets hired back into his job and continues reporting the news but with a slightly different view on the world

Barthes – codes of narrative • Action code – The news that Bill presents and the action of

the war, the conflict between democracy and dictatorship• Enigma code – Bill’s quest on how to tell the world about the

war and it’s secrets without the news station, the reasons behind the war

• Semic code – There is a black curtain behind Bill, this connotes the darkness behind Bills words. Bill is also dressed in black which connotes his dark agenda despite being the protagonist

• Symbolic code – The chess piece on Bill’s desk connotes right wing ideology, with it being black it connotes the darkness around right wing ideology represented in this film. When Bill rips up a sign saying ‘Freedom’ connotes how he is extreme in his ways

• Cultural code – Bill presenting the news in a fascist way is recognized culturally by people who keep in time with the politics of today and their history to understand the connections between the extreme comedy and the reality of politics
