The PRISM Pro-Line Nitrogen Generator GEN1 is a membrane based nitrogen generator which is housed in a stainless steel cabinet for marine, offshore and oil & gas land-based industry applications.

Proven technology is used in the design of these systems. All components inside the stainless steel cabinet are from well-known market leading suppliers and cover the specifications that are typically defined by customers and engineering companies for the different applications.

Air Product’s standards and specifications are used for mechanical packages. This benefits the end user by decreasing delivery time, reducing manufacturing costs, and reducing risk of errors, as our expertise is built in. The PRISM Pro-Line Nitrogen Generator GEN 1 incorporates design basis from international codes and norms and the documentation supplied with the unit covers all certificates & test reports that are customarily requested for this type of system.

BenefitsThe PRISM Pro-Line Nitrogen Generator GEN 1 is pre-engineered. Customers receive a Supplier Master Document List (SMDL) which contains all documents and drawings supplied with the package. The Supplier Master Document List also gives reference to documents, such as Welding Procedures, NDE Procedures, Hydro Pressure Test Procedures, FAT Procedures, and others. The SMDL references, finalized documents, and drawings are all available during Bid Clarification Meeting (BCM).Additionally, the Manufacturing Record Book Index (MRB Index) provides the fabrication records and documentation that will follow the unit. The same applies to the Operation & Maintenance Manual Index (O&M Index) and Spare Part List for Commissioning/Start-up.

Delivery time and engineering costs are reduced by having documents and drawings already approved after the Bid Clarification Meeting. The same applies to the Inspection & Test Plan (ITP).

The PRISM Pro-Line Nitrogen Generator GEN1 has an installed local control panel/ operator terminal which incorporates the safety devices, alarms and shut down functions as required for this system application. Communication protocol (Modbus TCP) provides all process indications, alarms and status signals. The control panel is designed to meet all area classifications and ambient conditions.

How Membranes Work

The PRISM PA/PB Nitrogen membrane separator uses asymmetric hollow fiber membrane technology to separate and recover nitrogen from compressed air.

Atmospheric air contains 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% other gases. The PRISM PA/PB membrane uses the principle of selective permeation to produce high purity nitrogen. Each gas has a characteristic permeation rate, which is a function of its

ability to dissolve and diffuse through a membrane. Oxygen is a “fast” gas and is selectively diffused through the membrane wall while nitrogen is allowed to travel along the inside of the fiber, thus creating a nitrogen rich product stream. The oxygen enriched gas, or permeate, is vented from the membrane separator at atmospheric pressure. The driving force for the separation is the difference between the partial pressure of the gas on the inside of the hollow fiber and that on the outside.

In the PRISM PA/PB membrane separator, compressed air flows down the inside of hollow fibers. “Fast” gases - oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor, and a small amount of “slow” gases, pass through the membrane wall to the outside of the fibers. They are collected at atmospheric pressure as the permeate. Most of the “slow” gases and a very small amount of the “fast” gases continue to travel through the fiber until they reach the end of the membrane separator, where the product nitrogen gas is piped to the application.

PRISM Membranes PB6050This configuration is optimized for systems that have critical minimum demand for nitrogen 24 hours per day with high pressure (18 Barg, 82.2° C) membrane separators. This configuration valves each membrane module for capacity regulation and feed air reduction. This setup also allows changing membrane separators while the other units are still in operation.

PRISM Membranes PA6050The PA6050 membrane separators have the same nitrogen production characteristics as the PB series but with a less robust shell, which is well suited for nitrogen systems that are continuously operating.
