General rule:
Chemical products that are used in the ecolabelledproduction of the printing matter shall not be assigned or may be assigned at the time of application any of the following risk phrases (or combination thereof): R50, R50/R53, R51/R53.
No chemical formulation that contains more than a total of 2,5% of substances that may assigned any of the above risk phrases shall be used.

The applicant shall provide a declaration of compliance with this criterion together with appropriate supporting documentation such as the composition and scoring points of the washing agents. Scoring of washing agents are done according to the vapour pressure of solvents with 20oC.

The efficiency of toluene recovery shall not be less than 98%.
Optional:
Collection of diffuse toluene emissions and low toluene content in the finished printed product (300 mg/kg) is awarded with points.

Assment and verification:
Emission values for Cr and Cu emissions to water based on measurements made after the treatment plant shall be reported.
The Cr emission values to the air shall be provided.
Toluene emissions to air through the main chimneyor after all the carbon adsorbers shall be reported. The reported values shall be based on continuousmeasurements.

Lamination by self-adhesive, non water soluble adhesives shall not be used.

The production site shall have a system for handling waste and residual products arising from the eco-labelled production.

Waste
Developing agents, fixing solutions, film and photo-graphic paper containing silver, used filters, residualdamping solutions and washing agents and solutions etc. shall be collected for destruction or recycling.
Cleaning cloths and rags shall be delivered to incineration with energy recovery or laundry.
For example, Digital printing:
Discarded electronic components, toner cartridges, used printing forms, depleted photosensitive layersshall be processed.
Toner residuals and other residual chemicals shall becollected.

Assessment and verification:
The applicant shall provide a description of the waste management plan for the printing house concerned together with the lists including the different waste fractions and the relevant certificates on approved processing of waste (e.g. invoices, transport documents or agreement of processing).
