This is a year of beginnings and consolidation at Pegasus as new relationships are established between our students, teachers and parents. Our families and teachers come from a wide range of backgrounds including Japanese, Taiwanese, Indian, Chinese, Malay and Australian. Most students have never studied in English before and all have made a great effort to not only fit in but also help build our new school community. Term 1 has seen an increase of 24 enrolments. There is a very strong focus on learning as new routines are established and exciting activities are experienced. Teachers have quickly come to appreciate the needs of all students and seek to nurture them individually in line with our KinderWorld motto of “Eastern values, Western education, Global citizens”. Parent support and communication is greatly appreciated and bears out our belief in a teacher, student and parent partnership. Pegasus is named after the legendary mythical flying horse that was immensely strong and could conquer all. To us he symbolizes the opportunity to “Fly high” and use our “unlimited imagination”. They were interviewed about their experience at Pegasus and living in Johor Bahru. We have just celebrated Chinese New Year of the Horse. Principal’s Report
Welcome to our first Pegasus International School Newsletter.
As Principal I am greatly privileged to be able to share the
events of this new school year. This is a year of beginnings
and consolidation at Pegasus as new relationships are
established between our students, teachers and parents. Our
families and teachers come from a wide range of backgrounds
including Japanese, Taiwanese, Indian, Chinese, Malay and
Australian. Most students have never studied in English before
and all have made a great effort to not only fit in but also help
build our new school community. Term 1 has seen an increase
of 24 enrolments. There is a very strong focus on learning as
new routines are established and exciting activities are
experienced.
Teachers have quickly come to appreciate the needs of all
students and seek to nurture them individually in line with our
KinderWorld motto of “Eastern values, Western education,
Global citizens”. Parent support and communication is greatly
appreciated and bears out our belief in a teacher, student and
parent partnership.
Pegasus is named after the legendary mythical flying horse
that was immensely strong and could conquer all. To us he
symbolizes the opportunity to “Fly high” and use our “unlimited
imagination”. Muhammad Ali the once world boxing champion
title holder reminds us that “The man who has no imagination
has no wings.”
Pegasus is beginning to become known as a school that
nurtures, strengthens and extends its students.
It was thrilling two weeks ago, when two of
our Japanese parents, Mr. and Mrs. Washio
and Kazuma, a student in Kindergarten,
were interviewed. They were interviewed
about their experience at Pegasus and living in
Johor Bahru.
We have just celebrated Chinese New Year of the Horse.
This is very appropriate as we are encouraged to genuinely
communicate with each other and sometimes use ingenious
communication techniques as well as being clever, kind to
Mrs Clark’s Art classes have produced some excellent work,
most of which is displayed on the classroom walls. The work
completed by Secondary student, Charmaine Ng Huei Feng,
was featured as a special exhibition. She has worked in a
variety of mediums.
Charmaine says, “Philosophers used to argue that art was
indefinable, but that it did not matter, as we could get along
perfectly well without a definition. I agree with that. I have
never kept any of my art. I give it all away to charities and
friends because the idea of sharing and inspiring others, is
what I love. To me art is meant to evoke catharsis and heal
souls.”
Corporate
A high quality school assembly is an important aspect of any
school curriculum. It nurtures a positive school ethos and the
pursuit of all forms of excellence. Assemblies can make a
positive contribution to student development and also raise
standards and achievements.
Our school Assembly is a highlight of our week as Pegasus
comes together to celebrate our achievements of worth in the
corporate sense.
It is a formal occasion; often student led (Gan Xin Rou - photo), and includes singing of the National Anthem in Bahasa, the Principal address, musical and drama items by the students and a teacher presentation of the Virtue of the Week. Students frequently write their own dramas for performance. Awards are presented and birthdays celebrated. Collegial work environments are crucial to work success. To
encourage collegial interaction we have begun a weekly
evening meal together. Johor has a very rich offering of
cuisine and our first meal at a steamboat and grill restaurant
was an enjoyable and happy evening of laughter and shared
friendship.

Extra-curricular Activity
The library has become a focal point for most students at
lunch times with the majority of students playing games and
teaching each other, using the computers, reading or chatting.
Although the weather has been hot outdoors, some have
trained for soccer, others have used the climbing frames or
played basketball. The table tennis room has been well used
every day.
When the World Kite Flying Festival was recently held in Pasir
Gudang , flying kites became a popular recreational activity at
lunchtime.
This activity provided the extra dynamics of learning about lift
and the interaction with air pressure that will sustain a kite in
flight.
Chinese New Year
The Nursery /Kindergarten class dressed in red and traditional
outfits for the Chinese New Year party.
They brought New Year goodies from home to share with their
friends and teachers. They had a demonstration on how to
make lanterns out of hongbaos and popped corn as gifts for
the older students.
Using thin brushes dipped in black ink, they painted the
Chinese characters for “good luck” in calligraphy.

Country Fair Games
Early in the term Secondary classes participated in a country
fair games afternoon. The afternoon presented a different
cultural perspective to students as well as being able to
participate in novelty events.
This was modelled on the old English village fair and involved
8 activities including, gum boot throwing, egg and spoon
races, spin the wheel, three legged races and shoot the ducks.
