Dear Parents and Carers, We are at the end of week 4 of the term and I would like to congratulate the students on the excellent learning that has been achieved so far this term. They’re always very keen to share their work with Dehlia and myself and I’m certainly proud of their achievements. This is the reporting term and teachers will be beginning midyear assessments during the next few weeks so as to be well prepared for report writing. I thank them for this work. Yesterday Tim Pallas the Member for Werribee and the Treasurer in our state government visited the Cayleys Road Campus. He was truly impressed with everything he saw – the facility we have managed to establish in three years, the vocational programs we are delivering but most of all our fantastic students and the staff who support them. Both Monica Copper and I were very proud to host this visit and have the opportunity to thank Tim for the support he has given the school over the years and the recent budget commitment of $1,000,000 for land acquisition. I would like to thank Monica for her excellent leadership of this campus. A reminder that next week school photos will be taken. On Monday 9th May photos will be taken at Cayleys Road and BRC and then on Wednesday 11th May the photographers will be here at the WPS campus. Next Week is Volunteer Week. The theme is ‘Give Happy, Live Happy’ and we certainly appreciate the work of the 100 volunteers who work in the school at different times across the school year. We would like to thank you with coffee voucher for Café 11 to be used during Volunteer Week. If you are volunteering in the school next week collect one of these vouchers from the administration office. We had a very successful Mother’s Day stall last Tuesday at WPS and Thursday at BRC. Thank you to our amazing group of fundraisers. Their efforts are truly appreciated. The Mother’s Day High Tea in the beautifully decorated hall and with fine food attracted a huge crowd. Thanks to Therese Bourke, Joan Kurtis and the SRC for excellent event organisation. The Ashton Scholastic Book Fair was very well patronised and the school made $481. Thank you to our parent helpers Kate Henderson, Christine Warner and Lynda Stevenson who manned the stall and to Alison Rooney for organising it. The Triple P Parenting program has been very successful with the third of the three seminars occurring last week. The feedback from parents about the seminars ‘Positive Parenting for Children with a Disability’, ‘Helping Your Child reach their Potential’ and ‘Changing Problem Behaviour into Positive Behaviour’ has been very positive Thank you to Maree Walker from Sunshine SDS for co-facilitating with Jo Sadler, Therese Bourke and Joan Kurtis for supporting the organisation and also Laura Roze, Elaine Quinn and Lachlan and Megan Rooney for providing child care. Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mums across the school. I hope Sunday is a relaxing day filled with joy. Marie Hayes Acting Principal From the Assistant Principal Education Week will be celebrated at Warringa Park School in the week commencing the 16th May. This year is especially exciting for us as it is a technology theme and will give us yet another opportunity to immerse students and engage parents in the fantastic world of technology. The school is inviting the parent and wider school community to visit the school, participate in classroom programs and showcase the learning achievements that are taking place. It’s a great opportunity to not only visit the school but become an active participant in some purposeful learning for a short time. Take time to visit the VCAL campus in South Melbourne, the rural campus in Cayleys Road and the Year 8/9/10 campus at Bethany Road. Have a coffee in Café 11 or at Monties at the VCAL campus. During Education Week we like to acknowledge the excellent work of our staff who are so committed to our students as learners. We are looking forward to catching up with you during the week. Please keep your eyes open for more details from your child's Learning Centre in the upcoming week as to how you can join us to celebrate education week! Student & Family Support Team

Mother’s Day Event Congratulations to all the staff, volunteers and students who planned and executed the Mother’s Day Events which were held this week. The Warringa Park Campus had 80 people attend the afternoon tea. A special thanks to our volunteers – Kim, Pam, Rebecca, Kylie and Kellie who worked extremely hard all day to organise food and the setup of the hall. Once again Pam (Bailey’s Grandmother) supplied the beautiful cupcakes for the event. The students on the SRC were amazing in assisting with the preparations and hosting the event. Thanks also to Deb, Lou and students in the Café who supplied 180 scones for the afternoon. Thank you also to Ruth, Andrea and students who created the table decorations. A big thank you also to Joan Kurtis who planned the event with ensured it was very successful.

Healthy Relationships Programs The Wellbeing Team are also focusing on providing students with opportunities to be involved where possible with programs with a focus on developing healthy relationships. Some girls from the Middle Years have been working with Nicole Geehman and Joan Kurtis in a Girl’s Puberty and Hygiene Program. The girls are active participants in the program. A group of eight boys have commenced working with Student Services on a program which focuses on communication and relationships. The boys will learn strategies to deal with conflict and positive social skills. Life Education Van Next week the Life Education Van will be visiting Warringa Park School. Life Education has been visiting schools for many years and lessons are always age appropriate and selected groups will be covering a wide range of drug and health related topics, ranging from the human body and how it works, healthy eating and nutrition, medicines and drugs, bullying, resilience and social skills. Healthy Harold, the much loved Life Education giraffe mascot is always a much anticipated element of the Life Education visit. The sessions are always fun, interactive and really extend and

develop the children’s understanding of the topics covered. We are also offering parent sessions (please see information included in the newsletter). If you would like further information related to the Life Education Van please refer to the website w.lifeeducation.org.au
