We celebrated our school’s 55th Anniversary and our pupils and staff had a memorable time at our Musical Gala Night – “Those Were The Days”. Monika Jia-Xin Lendermann did the school proud by being the Top Eurasian PSLE pupil in Singapore. We thank God for his guidance and blessings and we attribute such great achievement to the hard work of our pupils, supportive parents and committed teachers complemented with effective school programmes. Our niche areas - Performing Arts, Netball and Green Environment - have blossomed over the years. The school’s performing arts groups namely the School Band, Fusion Dance, Tap Dance and Choir have done the school proud by clinching awards at the SYF Band and Dance competitions with 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze. In the sporting arena, at the West Zone Inter-Schools Championships, the school has managed to clinch Champion for the Junior Team and 1st Runner-up for the Senior Team for Netball and Junior Team 4th for Table Tennis. We have been awarded our 2nd consecutive Sustained Lotus Award for Green Audit as part of the school’s effort to nurture in our girls the knowledge and appreciation of their rich environmental heritage and to inspire them with the desire to preserve and protect it. We opened our new Nicolas Barre Gallery on 16th Nov 2010. This Gallery houses our school history and documents the heritage for our pupils to understand our heritage and to grow in their journey through life. The Gallery is also equipped with ICT learning support for our teachers to introduce innovative teaching strategies to engage pupils, focusing on equipping our pupils with 21st century skills. For 2011, we have indeed had a blessed first term. Our girls in both the Junior and Senior Divisions Netball Team came in Champions at the West Zone Netball Championships. This is indeed commendable since it is a challenge for the same school to clinch both Championship titles. Our school has also been certified for our business excellence in People Developer in March and our processes of developing our staff and building their capacity have been affirmed. As we look forward to the year 2011, we strive to fulfill our vision of grooming our girls to be young confident ladies who have moral character, love for learning, leading and serving God and to be compassionate to others especially to the disadvantaged, and to always uphold our values. “Simple in Virtue, Steadfast in Duty” Mrs Tan - Lim Kim Gek Principal

Show and Tell Assembly PerformanceOn 1st April 2011, some of our girls put up a marvellous assembly performance which fascinated all of us.

The first item was an act performed by 1 Love and 1 Peace. The girls imitated animals like the snake, tiger and elephant. They were so adorable!

Next came 2 Love, the tongue-twisters experts. They recited two tongue twisters and they were really good at it.

2 Peace put up an interesting twisted fairy tale and their performance was so captivating that audience applauded loudly at the end.

Lastly, 3 Peace and 3 Love put up another skit titled ‘Spiderella’. The skit tickled everyone and everyone laughed heartily.

Overall, it was really an interesting and memorable assembly programme.

Tetra Pak Educational Trip to Kuala Lumpur16th & 17th March 2011

In 2010, our school came in as 1st runner-up in the Tetra Pak Recycling Champion 2009/2010 and 5 of our Environmental Science Club pupils, Valli (5 Hope), Keh Yi (5 Hope), Eshalene (5 Peace), Samyuktha (4 Peace) and Boojha (4 Hope) were selected to go on a 2 day-1 night Tetra Pak Education Trip to Kuala Lumpur. They were accompanied by Mrs. AnnaBelle Woo.

The objective of this educational trip was to provide our pupils the opportunity to view and understand the process of recycling Tetra Pak Post Consumer Cartons. Pupils learnt how materials are collected in Singapore and recycled in the paper mill to become useful products such as the recycled paper. They also visited the Aluminium recycling factory to learn how used aluminium products are recycled and made into aluminium roofs.

During this trip, our pupils also visited other interesting educational sites such as the Tangkat Brown Rice factory, Beryl’s Chocolate kingdom, Zenxin Organic Farm, as well as the Seri Melayu traditional cultural show performance. Everyone enjoyed themselves during this learning journey. It has been a meaningful and fun educational trip! Thank your Tetra Pak!

International Friendship Day - It’s Quiz Time!

Art and Craft lessons were conducted for the Vietnamese pupils.

From the NE Department:Total Defence Day and International Friendship Day

Our school celebrated Total Defence Day and International Friendship Day on 15th February 2011 and 8th April 2011 respectively. The theme for this year’s Total Defence Day and International Friendship Day was based on Singapore as a home.

To commemorate Total Defence Day, pupils, in their classes, brainstormed what Singapore as a home meant to them and their thoughts were shared during the assembly programme. Pupils were also shown NEmation videos done by students from other schools, reinforcing the importance of Total Defence. The school also invited Act3 Theatrics to put up a play “Our Flag Flies High” to round up the event.

For International Friendship Day, international pupils from a few classes were interviewed on how they adapted and adjusted to the life in Singapore. These interviews were videotaped and shown to the school during the assembly. Following which, pupils were highly engaged by a quiz about different cultures and landmarks from all over the world. Everyone, including the teachers, participated enthusiastically and it was truly a fun affair.

From the CIP Department:P5 CIP/Leadership Overseas Service Learning Trip to Vietnam 2010(18 – 22 November 2010)

The objective of this service learning trip was to provide pupils the opportunity to volunteer at a local school in meaningful ways, for example teaching English to the children. Pupils also had the opportunity to visit historical sights and watch interesting cultural shows showcasing the rich culture of Vietnam. We believe that pupils had benefitted greatly from this experience and understood the true meaning of service to others.
