What has been happening in

We LOVE to read in year 2!

We know how important it is, so

we have been practicing every

day!

We also know how important it is to travel actively to school and to do our part in

reducing pollution in our world.

We are an Active Travelling class and have been awarded the trophy twice this

year. Good job year 2's!

Year 2's have

also been

learning how to

tell the time to

the quarter

hour. We have

played many

fun, interactive

games to help

us tell the time

on analogue

clocks.

We are working on our

reading stamina and our

comprehension.

Through reading we are

also learning many new

words.

Year 2's with their trophy!

Effective Note Taking Many students struggle with knowing how to take good

notes in class and while studying at home. Some students,

especially in Years 10, 11 and 12 struggle with both taking

effective notes in class while the teacher is presenting the

lesson and with taking effective notes while studying at

home.

In class, many high school teachers will often present mini

lectures. Some teachers require students to take notes of

the lectures while the lesson is being taught, but how can

students balance taking notes of what is on the slides as

well as the extra information that the teacher also adds to

explain the main points, theories or concepts?

One strategy is to obtain a copy of the power point slides

before the lesson and take notes while the teacher is

talking. This way you have the main information as well as

the extra explanations the teacher provides. Another

strategy is to summarise the main ideas of each slide

instead of copying the slides word for word. Many

students who copy word for word from the board can’t

keep up with the rest of the class and fall behind. The key is

to make sure you are concentrating on what the teacher is

saying and the information they are conveying rather than

only focusing on copying information word for word.

When taking notes on the laptop/tablet or pen and paper,

it is important to free yourself from distractions. When

taking notes on your electronic device, make sure to focus

on one window or tab at a time. Having too many tabs or

windows open on your screen will not allow you to

concentrate and absorb the information you need for one

particular task. Note taking on the computer can be

supplemented with handwritten notes or diagrams and

mind maps. There are many software programs available

which allow you to combine both handwritten notes and

electronic notes. The key to keeping good notes is to keep

all the information you need for one subject or task in one

place.

So what are my top 5 tips for effective note-taking?

1. Concentrate on what the teacher is saying

2. Summarise the main points of the material being

taught

3. Free yourself from distractions

4. Concentrate on one task/topic/idea at a time

5. Keep all your notes in one place

Happy note taking everyone!

Wassalaam

Mathletics and Reading Eggs

Now that we reached term 3 and before we hit

all the exciting activities that we have to do this

term, I would like to take the opportunity to

congratulate all teachers and students on their

efforts over the past six months.

Mathletics and Reading Eggs are great

educational programs where students can

practice at school and home. In addition to the

huge bank of core curriculum content, practice

activities, eBooks and interactive tutorials; the

live area of Mathletics is so much more than a

fun diversion. It’s a fast-paced and exciting

way to improve mathematical fluency.

Since the beginning of this academic year,

student results at Australian International

Islamic College have been recorded. On

average students now score 93% in curriculum

activities.

Students who mastered activities attempted in

Mathletics are:

2015 Eid celebrations at the

Australian International Islamic College

With the grace of Allah the Australian

International Islamic College celebrated Eid ul Fitr

on Saturday the 18th of July 2015 at its Durack

campus. The celebrations attracted a crowd of over

2000 people. The official program started at 7:15

with a warm welcome note delivered by Haji

Shahid Khan welcoming the congregation to the

College. He highlighted the importance of

preserving our Islamic identity for the next

generation. Imam Ahmed Azhari delivered the Eid

message, emphasizing the importance of continuing

the acts of worshipping Allah SWT that have been

done during the Holy month of Ramadhan, after

the holy month. Salatul Eid was performed by

Imam Owais Syed with his beautiful recitation

during the Salah. The Eid khutbah was delivered

by Imam Yousaf Thaqafi, who congratulated

everyone for the achievements of worshiping Allah

SWT during the holy month of Ramadhan. The

formal program concluded with a heartfelt dua

from Imam Shehzad Khan, praying to Allah for his

acceptance of our actions during the holy month of

Ramadhan and also he prayed that Allah assists all

of the Muslims around the world in these difficult

times.

After the formal program, the congregation

exchanged hugs and asked each other for

forgiveness. Everyone enjoyed a delightful Eid

Brunch of beef curry, rice and sweets. With Allah’s

mercy the day was a splendid morning filled with

sun shine and joy. The children happily played on

the jumping castle and also enjoyed ice cream and

fairy floss.

The Australian International Islamic College

would like to take this opportunity to thank all

those who participated in making the Eid ul Fitr

celebrations a success and also would like to wish

all our Muslims a very happy Eid ul Fitr Mubarak.

May Allah SWT accept all of our actions that we

have been doing during this holy month of

Ramadhan sincerely for his pleasure, and may

Allah SWT make us better people……Amin.
