District Quiz Bowl Champions!
Valley View Elementary 3rd and 4th grade Quiz Bowl Teams became the District’s 2015-2016 Quiz Bowl Champions at the December competition. The two teams competed against other 3rd and 4th grade teams from within the district. The Quiz Bowl is a district wide academic competition initiated last year by our superintendent Mr. Ramirez. Each elementary sends a team of five 3rd grade students and a team of five 4th grade students. The competition is similar to the popular Master Minds Competition hosted by Channel 5’s Tim Smith. The 3rd grade team members are Melissa Juarez, Yulianna Saenz, Samuen Anguiano, Emiliano Sanchez, and Pedro Rios. The 4th grade team members are Renata Garcia, Julian Hernandez, Filiberto Rincon, Irineo Peralta, and Omar Martinez. Both teams were coached by Mrs. J. Gonzalez. Congratulations to both teams and their coach!
VVE Dance Team and Student Council Visit Local Adult Daycare Centers
Valley View Elementary Student Council and Dance Team visited two adult day cares in Hidalgo. The Student Council collected socks and donated them to the adults at the adult day care centers. The Dance Team danced for the residents. The residents loved their performance. We would like to thank Target, Wal-Mart, and VVE students and staff for their generous sock donations. We collected over 100 pairs of socks. Again, thank you!

Congratulations Valley View Elementary students and staff! Our students and staff entered the Hidalgo Festival of Lights Christmas Card Decorating Contest. Our kindergarten students and staff earned a second place finish and our pre-k students and staff earned a third place finish. The cards are be displayed at the Hidalgo City Hall and will be on display throughout the holiday season. We invite you to go to the city of Hidalgo and see them. Job well-done!
“Alice in Wonderland”
As a reward for their hard work and dedication, Valley View Elementary faculty and staff treated all of their students to the “Alice in Wonderland Play” performed by the Valley View High School drama team at the high school auditorium. Our students and staff not only enjoyed the play, but were able to ask the cast questions after the play.
Campus Christmas Card Contest Valley View Elementary students competed in the annual Christmas Contest. First and second grade students were asked to use their imagination and create a Christmas card. The winning card was one of several used by the District to give to employees. Pictured left to right are: Mr. Villarreal, teacher, and Gael Pacheco, 1st place winner; Jorge Martinez, 2nd place winner, and Mrs. Villarreal, teacher; and Jazlynne Olmeda, 3rd place winner, and Miss Silva, teacher. Congratulations to all!
An Afternoon of Fun!
December’s PTO Meeting
The Valley View Elementary Dance Team, under the direction of Mrs. A. Gamez, treated parents to a special performance at VVE December PTO Meeting. The Dance Team danced to “Jingle Bells,” All I Want for Christmas Is You,” and “El Burrito Sabanero.” Great job Dance Team!
“Afternoon of Fun”
Valley View Elementary students were treated to another “Afternoon of Fun” this six weeks. Students in 3rd and 4th grade got to spend an afternoon having fun playing Bingo, volleyball, creating crafts, conducting science experiments, playing ping pong, playing foosball, playing basketball, and much more. Students enjoyed creating volcanos and watching them erupt. Great job students and staff!
Toy Drive
Valley View Elementary’s student council hosted it’s annual toy drive to benefit children at Driscoll Children’s Hospital. The students placed two boxes in the office where students and staff dropped-off new unwrapped toys. Pictured left to right (front row) are VVE student council officers, Gyanna Echeverria-Robinette; Yulianna Saenz; Tyler Garcia; Neyli Quiroga; Jeretzy Calderon; Mr. E. Perez, Driscoll’s Hospital Volunteer; and Mrs. I. Herevia, sponsor.
Santa Visits VVISD!
Santa came early to Valley View ISD. All pre-k and kindergarten students were treated to a present by Santa Claus himself December 15. The children enjoyed meeting Santa and some of his elves.

Fight the Flu! Influenza: Influenza (also known as the flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The flu is different from a cold. The flu usually comes on suddenly. People who have the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:
Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
Cough
Sore throat
Runny or stuffy nose
Muscle or body aches
Headaches
Fatigue (tiredness)
Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.
* It's important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever. Flu is unpredictable and how severe it is can vary widely from one season to the next depending on many things, including:
what flu viruses are spreading,
how much flu vaccine is available,
when vaccine is available,
how many people get vaccinated, and
how well the flu vaccine is matched to flu viruses that are causing illness.
Who needs a flu vaccine? a) You b) You c) You d) All of the above
Even healthy people can get the flu, and it can be serious. Everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine. This means you. This season, protect yourself—and those around you—by getting a flu vaccine.
NO MORE EXCUSES---THERE ARE MANY PLACES TO GET YOUR FLU VACCINE
