As Chef came into our classroom I said “I’m nervous!”. He was about to come and see my snack design and I was getting more nervous. Three minutes before this the chef had shown us a presentation about healthy food and unhealthy food choices. After this he came into our class and first he asked me my name. I said “Louis”. The next questions he asked was “what ingredients have you used in your snack?” I said “apple, orange and yoghurt”. “Very nice” the chef said and then he moved on. !After he looked at everyones snacks we went back to Mrs Kongs classroom to see who won the mystery box competition. There was a winner from each year 3 class. From 3CK it was Tokoshi, everyone cheered. Second from 3ML was Daniel, people were still clapping and our classmate winner was Hugo. Everyone was cheering for Hugo, so many people from our class were proud of Hugo. I was also really proud of him. Louis Yamada 3KW

YEAR TWO LEARNING FROM

OTHER CULTURES

First I had to choose the country for my research and I chose France. Then I chose the group and in my group I have Eleanor and Lucas. I worked so hard to learn about the French and their culture. I like the part when I used the Ipad and the computer. I wrote the information, Lucas drew and Eleanor looked for French things in books. I like my work because now I know everything about France. I like my group because we worked so fast and my group work was fun !By Shuga Katayama 2SS

In Year 2BS we have been studying cultures from all around the world. On Thursday September 11th we dressed up in our cultural sport clothes. It was a fun event because we learnt more about each others culture. We also brought in equipment like, tennis balls, baseballs, netballs, lacrosse stick, bowling balls, a cricket bat and boxing gloves. By the end of the day we had more knowledge and respect about different sports from all around the world. !By 2BS

We were just getting ready to start, I was so nervous and thought I couldn’t make it. But in no time I was already done. We were running at the Botanical Gardens. How long we ran was 1.6km, it seem more like two thousand kilometers. I was out of breath near the end but luckily I made it. The end was at a shed, I felt exhausted. After the run we went back to school on the bus. Me and my friend Ranya sat together and talked about the brown swan I saw on the run. When we got back to school we reflected on the run and I thought to myself I had a wonderful day.

Ms. Johns took JYP year groups out, class by class, to Emerald Hill. We walked outside of school and looked at all of the different buildings around the school. We all brought our sketchbooks to draw any buildings or statues we saw around us. The first statue we saw was called the “Laughing Man”. The “Laughing Man” was two men that were carved out of jade, they had smiles on their faces and held something in their hands. There was a large gate in front of them. The men were tall and had their eyes closed. I think they had their eyes closed because of the smiles they had on their faces. I think the artist was feeling happy, I think thats why he made the statues. We got put into groups with the parents that came to help. This way we could split up. Most of the groups stayed with Ms. Johns as they looked at the buildings Soo Hye, Kaja and Naimh drew the rocks, the buildings, the cars, the plants and the road that was in front of us. Ms. Johns took pictures of the different drawings that the children drew, I think Ms. Johns did this because she wanted to record what the other children had drawn in their sketchbooks . The art trip was all about looking at the different textures and materials that the artist used. Next time I walk down a road I will look out more for the colours, shapes, textures and materials the artist has used.

I have been karting for approximately 12 months. I got into karting because I love Formula 1 so much that I also wanted to be a racer. I spoke to my family about whether Singapore had a place to go to learn. Kartright Speedway was the place to join. And thats what I did. I joined a team - and there are only two of us. !I am in the Auto Inc Racing Team and I drive a Birel kart with a MiniRok engine. I practice twice a week. This year I have test in Malaysia (Sepang) and the UK (Whilton Mill) in the summer. I am now taking part in a range of different championships. !I have been racing in Singapore all this time that I wanted to take part in the Rotax Max Challenge (RMC) which is a series held in Malaysia. On Friday 29th of August I went to Sepang, Malaysia to test with the team for this series. Our team did really well. I did one of my best laps, beating my own time - 55.7 seconds over 1.247 kilometres long track. In October I will race with them in RMC. !I am taking part in the Singapore Karting Championship (SKC), there are 15 kids in the cadet category. In round one I came fifth and I knew that I had to do better. In round two, I came sixth. In round three, which was last weekend (September 5th), I came second. As well as the second place trophy I also won a rookie trophy.
