Leader’s Message

Vice Principal’sMessage

This was a year of achievements and memories! Greetings!

Yearbooks are always special. They offer a glimpse into the school year, student achievements, activities that kept the campus buzzing, and acts as a repository for memories that make life fun for students. This yearbook also attempts to do the same, and manages to achieve the goal with flying colours.

But, things were not as simple in the last two years. A raging pandemic had made it difficult for the school to conduct many activities that shape school memories. Lockdowns, virtual classrooms and social distancing, had created a challenge that was overriding the school’s promise of providing wholesome learning experience to our students.

But, I am proud to say that we managed to be resilient and put our best foot forward. We powered through these dark times by ensuring that the school focuses on the five pillars of Resilience: self-care, mindfulness, positivity in relations, purpose-driven actions, and self-awareness.

We marked these trying times with some stupendous achievements by teachers, students and the campus. Teachers showed great leadership as they rolled up their sleeves to hold virtual and hybrid classes, and students adjusted quickly and with determination to continue the learning process.

We conducted extra-curricular activities, competitions, and assemblies in the virtual universe as enthusiastically as they were conducted in the pre-Covid days, and very successfully at that. The most striking thing in these two years was the constant evolution of teaching and learning. Being a

Ms. Rekha Rachel VargheseVice Principal SMART Campus (Primary)

tech-savvy campus, we leveraged the power of technology in classrooms to enhance the learning experience of students through interactive and collaborative efforts.

We were also mindful of holding digital detox sessions after long hours of virtual presence. We encouraged students to take a break from screens and spend time with family and friends. We used various platforms like podcasts, meditation mornings, sharing sessions, etc., to disseminate the importance of digital detox.

Furthermore, new initiatives such as Kaizen were launched to keep learning relevant. The Kaizen method comprises each class, brainstorming and focusing on one issue at the classroom level or school level, for overall improvement of processes. There were other initiatives such as the Writing and Publishing initiative (WPI) by PYP, where the students published an in-house magazine, International UN Day celebrations by IB PYP students, and even a Nat Geo video shoot with IT and music. The kindergarten also initiated an extended program for the students, making the year more gratifying.

As the years go by, we will experience a myriad of possibilities and challenges, highs and lows, successes and frustrations, surprises and insights, and most of all, a lot of learning! Education is a continual process. Learning never stops; be it, students, be it teachers. We learn, and we grow. Learning and self-growth go hand in hand to live life to the fullest. This is what I hope and pray for all our students.

Keep Growing.

Mr. Atul TemurnikarCo-founder and Chairman Global Schools Foundation

What a fantastic year it has beenfor GIIS!

As we welcome you to 2022, I’d like to emphasise our mission statement of nurturing young minds and hearts as the backbone of a nation’s growth and hope for the future.

Our school’s goal is to continue to be known as a torchbearer of cutting-edge educational approaches and an institution where students are defining a future not only for themselves but for the entire globe. We have strived for this for the last two decades. And now as we enter our 20th Anniversary year, we will continue to strive for more incredible and more secure futures for our students who have the potential to be world’s future leaders and productive citizens.

From its foundation to the present, our institution has worked tirelessly to disseminate the light of education and pave the way for every student to achieve academic greatness. The essential areas of concentration remain the same: generating possibilities, testing minds, fostering innovation, and maintaining excitement.

Year 2021 brought many accolades and accomplishments. Firstly, the school was made proud of the exemplary performance of every student in the IBDP, IGCSE, and the CBSE 12th and 10th examinations. The year saw new records being set with 16 world toppers in the IBDP exams, 26 A* toppers in IGCSE, and a whopping 91.6% average for the CBSE 12 board exams. We also received 100 awards, including the Global Performance Excellence Award and APQO Award, and are now registered in the World Book of Records. It pushed our total number of awards and certifications to a monumental 300.

Last year, we also saw exponential achievements extended to all

9 GEMS outside of academics. Students and teachers were active participants in various programs and initiatives, having earned a reputable name for themselves and the school. From arts and sports to community welfare and entrepreneurship, our students proved well-equipped leaders who can take on any challenge, role or responsibility.

The school has also generously donated to causes such asCOVID-related relief items, monetary aid to less fortunate sections of society, and school sponsorship on the CSR front.

Moving forward in 2022, while we remain alert about Covid-19 and establish safety management measures, our primary focus has been the execution of several new teaching methodologies this year.

We will continue to strive towards our culture of “ABCD – Achieve our best; Believe in ourselves; Care for one another and Diversity in harmony.” Our goal is to develop our students into effective human beings, not just degree holders. Sports, dance, music, and art, as well as social responsibility activities, should become a regular part of your lives.

The digitally-savvy GIIS SMART Campus, and the Green and Happy East Coast Campus, are the epitome of new era learning. Every technology, facility, and design is meticulously crafted to provide the most outstanding academic and extracurricular pedagogy for their benefit. SMART features such as Wi-Fi enabled classrooms and Sports Analytics fields are in place to provide students with the best resources available to improve their academic performance and extracurricular activities.

We look forward to a successful year ahead and will face all challenges confidently and with fortitude.

Educator’s Perspective

Sustainability is a Passion That I Want to Pass Down GenerationsAs an IB PYP educator, I often emphasise on how the IB PYP curriculum is useful for students since it focuses on a child’s holistic education, which aligns closely with my values as an educator. This role allows me to be creative, innovative, experimental, and keep an open mind about different learning approaches.

The other passion of mine was sustainable living and development. The United Nations promotes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and I was delighted to be among the selected advocates for the program, a UN initiative which encourages students to be aware and engaged in the SDGs. The program offers rich teaching resources on themes such as mitigating global poverty, securing decent work for all, gender equality, protecting the planet’s natural resources, and more.

I have always wanted to promote UN SDGs among my students and guide them on how they can do their part in realising a better, more sustainable future for us all. So when I got an opportunity to bridge the two, I was happy to do it. I believed that connecting the SDGs to the school’s formal curriculum would help students connect with real-world issues and start thinking about how they can contribute to these goals individually and collectively.

With this in mind, I applied to the Global Schools Program, an initiative by the UN, which encourages students to be engaged and aware of the UN SDGs. My role allows me to act as an action planner and connector within the school to incorporate SDGs, global citizenship values, and 21st-century skills within my classroom activities.

I focus on discussing international affairs/conflicts and brainstorming possible interventions with my students. This increases their exposure to global issues and pushes them to understand how international diplomacy works. This has encouraged student agency in the classroom, and offered them opportunities to become global citizens of the future.

As a UN SDG advocate, I’m committed to integrating global and local sustainable development issues into my teaching curriculum. Highlighting the importance of an international education, I am excited and thrilled to be a part of a group where educators worldwide share their resources, best practices, and ideas to encourage a positive, uplifting change in the world.

Ms. Komal Agarwal PYP 3A Teacher

Advocate for UN Sustainable Development Goals

Educator’s Perspective

Adding STEAM to Student Learning for Speedy OutcomeAs a teacher of maths and science, I have been fascinated by the field of STEAM, which unifies learning from the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. This interdisciplinary stream fosters curiosity among learners and helps nourish their sense of wonder, which is crucial to keep them motivated.

I always try to find ways to engage my students with hands-on activities, which help them develop their understanding of the concepts by not just learning but doing. It is the best way to make learning engaging and interactive.

Our school regularly participates in the SCSA (Sony Creative Science Award), Singapore’s largest national toy-making competition for primary school students. SCSA is a pioneering forum that fosters the development of a creative mindset in children and positions teachers as critical enablers in this model. Primary school students are encouraged to participate in this competition and use their creativity to design and build toys based on simple scientific principles. This helps make education fun and interactive for the students and provides them with a platform to showcase their talents.

Ms. Ruchika Shabi CBSE 4D Primary Teacher

Diamond Award Winner at Sony Creative Science Award

As a teacher, I have always played an active role in encouraging students to participate in this competition and helped guide them in unleashing their creativity in science. This year, I am proud to share that I received the Diamond Award from SCSA for my contribution to the success of this competition.

This award is given out to a teacher for their efforts in helping students improve by engaging them in out-of-classroom activities that foster innovation and creativity. I have always believed in an interactive approach to scientific learning, and this award is a valuable acknowledgement of my efforts. It has motivated me to take the less trodden path in teaching the wonders of science to young minds.

14th July 2021 Students Send a Salute to France - Saluting FranceStudents from Grades 1 to 5 celebrated the French National Day which falls on 14 July, a gesture which is part of the GIIS culture of inclusivity and diversity.

The students spent the day sharing their knowledge of the history and culture of France. They dressed up to celebrate the European country by using its flag colours: red, white, and blue, and also showcased a handcrafted French national flag made with recyclable material.

A speech was given on the French Revolution and a quiz held on the same. This was followed by a rendition of the French national anthem and the famous French song ‘Alouette’. Grade 5 students were also invited to enjoy a traditional French viennoiserie, including croissants and baguettes.

Activities such as Saluting France give an insight into French culture. Such activities are part of our 9GEMS curriculum which believes in giving students platforms to explore communities and cultures other than their own. This helps shape the students’ worldview and imparts relevant 21st-century skills to make them global citizens.

22nd July 2021 Parents as Partners Activity

14th & 21st August 2021 Annual Jhankaar Competition Finds Many Takers in Virtual Avatar - Dancing Like Stars

The primary section organised a ‘Parents as Partners’ programme in July, which was an attempt to encourage parents to participate in the student development activities as well as help students learn about things beyond the classroom.

Each class from CBSE Grade 1 to 5 chose one volunteer parent to conduct the one-hour programme, which was held through a virtual classroom. Parents spoke and conducted a workshop with students on Arts, Craft, Puppetry, Balloon Sculpting, Storytelling, Science Experiments and even Cyber Crime prevention.

The idea was to engage students in activities that gave them knowledge on practical and relevant subjects, which is part of the 9GEMS holistic framework of the school. Studies have shown that when the school and parents collaborate, the students reap the fruits and experience success, and the primary section took this interaction to a very beneficial level.

Such events go a long way in shaping students’ creativity and knowledge and we are already looking forward to the next set of sessions under this program !

As many as 165 students from all GIIS campuses participated in the ‘Jhankaar - Dancing Like Stars’ competition in August - the annual contest which received overwhelming response despite its virtual avatar.

Expert judges had a tough time choosing winners among the 90 students who made it to the finals in four categories including Sub-Junior, Junior, Sub-Senior, and Senior. Students from all GIIS campuses and some non-GIIS schools contested in the competition for Classical and Freestyle dance forms.

In the Sub-Senior category, Swetha Raj won in the Classical dance, and Vedant Sinha won in the Freestyle competition. In the Senior category, Khushboo Tiwari won in the Classical dance event, and Keertana Ramanujan won in the Freestyle event. The Junior category was won by Shreyanshi Pradhan of GIIS East Coast Campus in the Classical category and Abhishree Gawade of GIIS Hadapsar Campus in the Freestyle category.

Since its establishment in 2010, Jhankaar has been a popular annual competition for students to display their skills and talent in the field of dance. It is part of the Visual and Performing Arts GEM, one of the 9 GEMS of GIIS’s holistic framework which has been designed to help students excel in academics as well as other aspects of education. The Visual and Performing Arts GEM stands to provide the right opportunities for development in the arts field, and the annual.

10th September 2021 IB PYP Teacher Chosen as UN Sustainability AdvocateGIIS SMART Campus teacher Komal Agarwal was selected to be an advocate for the United Nations’ Global Schools Programme (GSP), an initiative which aims to generate interest in sustainable development within schools.

GSP is part of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, which comprises 1,000 schools from over 70 countries around the world. GSP wants to generate interest among students, educate and engage them in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

SDGs are a globally recognised framework, also known as Agenda 2030, divided into 17 goals, agreed to by 193

for better learning of students.

Based on the theme of ‘Plant Life’ and ‘Our Food Plate’, the session held in August witnessed students make presentations on the importance of having a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle, through engaging activities like quizzes and songs.

Students from the SMART Campus showed immense enthusiasm to present their findings at the virtual event, displaying knowledge about food that was beyond their age. This interaction proved that the Global Connect Series is beneficial for the students to improve not just their oratory skills, but also their understanding of subject matters taught to them, which helps build their confidence in the long run.

GIIS has always strived to provide its students with opportunities to grow in academics and other aspects of life. Recognising the importance of a balanced diet is one of the primary 21st-century skills GIIS aims to inculcate in its students.

Our Solar System

We all live on a planet called Earth. Planets are large bodies floating in space that orbit around a giant star. Some are fast, some are slow, some are big and some are small. Earth goes around the Sun which is also a Star. It appears much larger than all other stars in the sky because we are so close to it.

There are 7 other planets that go around the Sun. They are Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus & Neptune. Few years ago, there used to be a ninth planet named Pluto. But Pluto was too small and its orbit was very different than the other planets. So scientists decided to call it a “dwarf planet”. In fact, there are 4 other dwarf planets. They are Eris, Ceres , Haumea and Makemake.

Planets sometimes also have bodies orbiting around it. They are called satellites. Earth has a satellite called Moon. Mercury and Venus does not have any satellite, but all other planets do. Mars has 2 satellites - Phobos and Deimos. Neptune has 14 satellites, Uranus has 27 satellites, Jupiter has 79 and Saturn has the most satellites at 82.

Two Gummy Bears

On a lovely evening, two Gummy bears, Mama bear and Baby bear went on a picnic.

After having snacks, they laid down under a tree on the hillside and started to look at the sky. Baby bear was excited to see the cotton candy clouds making different shapes and then drift along.

“Loooooook” she said pointing to the bear shaped cotton candy cloud, “this cloud looks just like me!”. Mama bear then pointed to another cloud that looked like a giant Butterfly. Both of them had a lot of fun looking at the beautiful clouds slowly drifting into different shapes. Later, they went on to explore the hillside and the baby bear spent her time observing nature. “These flowers look like candies!”, she said. “Oh! These rocks are like Jellies and those bushes look like candy canes!!”. The baby bear enjoyed the beautiful evening at the hillside so much and felt it was like a dreamy candyland.

Sweet and Adorable - 2021

I felt lonely, and had no siblings until last year. When my mom told me the great news that finally I was going to have a younger brother. I got so excited!! I was over the moon. I used to touch my mom’s tummy to feel the baby and count the days.

Finally, the due date came, and my mom went to the hospital. I was waiting impatiently at home to greet my brother. When he entered the house, I did puja for him. My eyes were gleaming with joy on seeing the cute little baby. His eyes were closed. I held his tiny hands for the first time. He was so delicate. The first few months he used to cry and sleep the whole day, so it was boring. After a few months, he started to make faces which made me laugh. It’s fun to watch him. He started to play with toys and was more active. I learnt to change his diapers. I got him dresses and a rattle on his six-month birthday. He was very happy to play with his new toys. I love my brother. Life has been more colourful since June last year and I hope it continues to be like this forever...

Rose and Unicorn

Once Upon a Time, I Found a Unicorn

There lived a girl whose name was Rose, she wanted a pet Unicorn. She went out into the woods to find a Unicorn.

Rose went deeper until she found a hare. She asked him, “did you see a Unicorn?”

The hare said, “yes, I saw but it ran away.” Rose said, “Oh! You live in a willow tree so can you make me a broom to fly?” The hare agreed. When hare gave the broom to Rose, she was ready to take off. While flying, her back started to pain, so she landed in front of an Owl. The Owl was a carpet maker and offered to make a flying carpet for Rose.

Rose loved the carpet made by the Owl. When she was in the sky, she saw a Unicorn but it ran six times faster than the carpet. The Unicorn ran so fast that it shed all the leaves of the trees. Rose followed it until it grew dark. Then Rose went to the camping area and slept.

Next day, she saw the Unicorn grazing nearby. At last Rose got her pet Unicorn!

They lived happily ever after

THE END!

Michelle’s Escape

A little girl, Michelle, was once walking through a forest picking flowers. There, she saw a beautiful golden songbird that was caught in a net spread by a bird catcher. The songbird was crying in distress for help. Michelle ran and freed the bird at once. The songbird chirped joyfully and flew away. Michelle was happy to have done a good deed, and walked back home.

Many days later, Michelle was sitting on a wall and was enjoying some sandwiches for lunch. The same songbird was flying overhead and saw Michelle. The songbird swooped at her sandwich and took it away. Michelle jumped to snatch her sandwich back, but lost her balance. She fell from the wall.

When she recognised the golden songbird, Michelle was very upset. She thought that the bird was very ungrateful. Michelle picked herself up and was shocked to see a poisonous snake slithering on the wall. She now understood that the snake would have bitten her if she had not fallen off the wall. The songbird had saved her life!

Michelle felt relieved and was thankful to the songbird. She then took her lunch box and ran away from there.

Chowmahalla Palace

In my winter holidays, I went to Hyderabad for vacation. A cold Wednesday, I went to a palace museum called Chowmahalla Palace. At the time India was being ruled by the British, there was a kingdom called Hyderabad that was ruled by royalty.Chowmahalla Palace is a group of 4 different palaces. In the main palace, the throne is visible, too!

A lot of the royalty’s possessions are on display in the Palace including vintage cars like Rolls Royce and Fiat.Chowmahalla Palace is a group of 4 different palaces. In the main palace, you can see the throne, too!

In one palace, the royal crockery is on display. The armour of the Royal Army is also on display in two of the rooms. Those rooms are filled with just armour! There are so many knives, shields, etc.! Even the walls are lined up with armour and it feels really special to be able to see armour of such old times!

I loved my visit to the palace and I learnt many new things. I hope to visit again soon.

My First Roller Coaster Ride

I had often seen roller coaster rides in television and always thought it was scary and wondered what would happen, if I ever rode one?

It was our first visit to Universal Studios, Singapore. My sister and I were quite young. She was five and I was seven. We tried many rides there and saw many shows. We saw the big castle moving ahead and decided to visit that zone. When we entered The Far Far Away zone, we saw a ride which many people were crowding over called ‘The Enchanted Airways’. As we were little girls, this dragon ride appealed to us enormously and my mother agreed to let us go into the ride. We did not know what the ride was about. As we sat on the ride, we assumed it was a kind of kids’ train but when we were seated we got a big shock. IT WAS A ROLLERCOASTER! though a junior one !

Anyway, we continued with our ride. Since only two could be seated together, my mother sat in the front row and let the two of us sit together behind. We were very frightened and it felt creepy when we went up and down. Finally, after seven minutes of frantic screaming the ride ended. We had a big sigh of relief that we landed safely and also an achievement that we rode the Roller Coaster.

That day I learnt two important lessons- First, I should never get on any ride without knowing what it was, just based on its look. Second, if you are seated properly,

you do not fall from the roller coaster ride even when it’s upside down because they are built that way based on scientific principles of inertia.

Minecraft: A Game That Changed History

A game once thought to only be played by mischievous youngsters and lonely teenagers is today a world-renowned icon. It is incredible that a man named Notch thought of the idea that would become so popular.

When you think of Minecraft, there’s more to it than just blocks and dirt houses and spider webs. It’s built up a community of people looking to be themselves in ways we have never seen before. Ways that society calls, tools of children. But it’s not! This one game has influenced society in a way we can’t even imagine. And when people say “It’s just a game!” It isn’t! It’s a feeling!

Minecraft has become a part of our generation, Gen Z. It was here when I was born and I know it will remain so when I die. Games fade. We know that. But minecraft is no game at all. It is a canvas waiting to be painted and the players are the paintbrushes!

It changed the world. And it will continue to do so.

As I am sitting here at my desk, typing this on my iPad with minecraft’s incredible background music playing in the background, I tell the editors of the people reading this article and disregarding it because they do not understand, remember that minecraft is something that our generation loves! Something that was made for us! So it makes sense that you may not understand! But still, there are people from other generations who love this game!

So maybe, just give minecraft a chance. Because trust me, it will change your life. And at the very least, your child’s life.

Tigers are hikers

Meet the New ‘ME’; Post Lockdown For the last two years, the whole world has been shaken by the longest pandemic ever in history, Covid-19. This pandemic has changed everybody’s life. None of us succeeded in escaping this.

When we all were locked in our houses and stressed, I tried to keep myself motivated and engaged in many hobbies. Picking up new skills helped me to be relaxed and engaged. Hobbies were the silver lining in the cloud of pandemic.

My parents ordered me a guitar at my request. I learnt to play basic notes of the guitar with the help of some online videos! Soon, this skill became one of my best friends. I really came to understand the power of living healthily during this pandemic. Now my morning starts at 6:30am. I go for a jog every morning followed by yoga. This gives me the kick start of my day with positivity.

This pandemic has taught us many lessons like the value of time, value of good health, value of good hobbies etc. Hobbies played a crucial role to maintain my mental health during this crisis.

” Life is very precious, make it more beautiful by adding value to it.”

Covid 19 COVID 19 is a big task , it makes us wash our hands and wear our masks.

COVID is not a joke , it is harder than a rock.

It spreads like water, and makes our health shorter.

It makes us quarantine, 14 days is it’s time.

Every country had a lockdown, and made us bored and made our mood down.

Everyone couldn’t go to school, because of the COVID rule!!!

But one thing is for sure, we will overcome this fear.

We will follow the learnings and make our “Mother Earth” worth living !!

Struggles of a Left-Hander

As a left-hander the hardships I faced in everyday tasks and using devices… which are mostly created for right-handers. For example, the first period today was music. There were many guitars but then I realised that there was no left-handed guitar. Then it was art and we got to cut coloured paper. But I realised that the art class did not have any left-handed scissors (most people are unaware of the existence of this item), so I had lots of difficulties cutting paper!

However, just before lunch, I had one last resort, which was ICT! We had a lot to do involving the calculator app. But then I realised that the numbers were to the right of the keyboard, so I had to stretch my left hand to reach the numbers and my speed was slowed! Back home I was asked to take a picture using a camera very delicately and found it very difficult as most buttons were on the right side of the camera. Even in the kitchen, I found it very hard to peel potatoes as peelers are designed for right-handers.

However, left-handers still find ways to live happily despite all these hardships!

Little Boy on the Tree

Mom said, ‘‘Little boy, never climb on the tree, or you’ll fall down, hurt your ankle and knee. But the little boy wanted to climb the tree for apples, so instead he asked daddy. Daddy said, ‘’ Always be strong and take risks in life.’’. So, the little boy had climbed the tree, but just as he reached the apples, he screamed. He broke his ankle and knee. Mom was angry, she said, ‘’ I knew this would happen. Fix it yourself. I am busy.’’ while daddy was proud of me, he said, ‘’good job buddy.’. I was very confused, which is the best option? Should I have taken the risk or just have left it for the sake of my safety?

My Love for Origami

Origami is the art of paper-folding. Its name derives from Japanese words ori (“folding”) and kami (“paper”).

Origami is my hobby. I can make a lot of difficult and easy things from origami paper. I am self learnt and practicing since last two years. One day, on a play date with my friend I learnt how to make a boat from a normal paper and since then there was no looking back. I started gaining interest in making items from origami paper.

I enjoy making origami items like – butterfly, dog, jumping frog, whale, jewelry boxes, heart, balloon, crown, etc. I can memorize the steps by practicing.

Some fun facts:

• Designed origami paper is called sweet paper or Chiyogami paper.

• Origami paper is designed to be thin enough to fold easily and hold the crease without being bulky, yet strong enough to resist tears.

• NASA engineers use origami not only because of its aesthetic appeal, but also because of the hidden geometry in the various folds.

My Dream I was dreaming with my eyes wide-opened.

Where, I saw myself sitting on a desk.

My mind is at rest.

Because my book had been published and,

Autographs were being given my million.

Proud I was to write such a book ! and,

In a world of happiness it took.

Readers, fortunate who could reach a copy.

I dreamt with my eyes wide-opened to see,

What comes NEXT !

My Emotions I am happy when everyone cheer

I am sad when I am not with my peer

I am shy when I don’t say Hi

I cry when my friends say bye

I am surprised and suddenly say Oh!

I am proud when I say I am pro

I am silly when I am not friendly

I am kind when I help someone to find

I love to be curious but I hate to be furious

I am always delighted when you find me excited.

Days FlyJanuary begins the year, with fireworks and lots of cheer,

February, the north winds blow, the ground now wears a coat of snow,

Marching on we soon hit spring, with daffodils and chicks that sing,

The next month brings a bunch of flowers, baby lambs and April showers,

May I say that spring soon ends, as summer’s sun walks round the bend,

Fizzy drinks and swimming pools, in June we laugh and play the fool,

July, we buy ice creams and peaches, have donkey rides on sandy beaches,

In August, in the fields of clover, summer waves the party’s over,

September shirts, the old school tie, it’s school again! I hear you cry,

October, leaves and conker fights, ghosts and witches, darker nights,

November crackles, rockets fly, the fireworks, they paint the sky,

December, wrapped in winter ice, the past twelve months, I hope were nice!!

Sharing Lockdown Hobbies with My Bestie ‘Ding-Dong!’ The doorbell rang. It must be Shelly, my best friend! Finally, she is here after ages of lockdown! I am eager to share with her my new hobbies including some sweet treats too.

The moment I opened the door, Shelly hugged me. We were too excited. While entering the living room, Shelly spotted a pair of goldfish in an aquarium. “Real Goldfish, Mihika?” exclaimed Shelly in surprise. “Yes, they are! I always wanted a pet and they are my new lockdown buddies,” I said. “That’s so sweet!” said Shelly.

Thereafter she was too delighted when we had chocolate cake that I baked. Suddenly, some grotesque smell bothered us. “It’s probably from the compost in the balcony that I made with food waste,” I realized. While having a look, I cried, “Oh no! Come and see. It’s full of worms and so pungent!” Unfortunately, all of it was thrown away as we were short of potted plants to use.

While relaxing in my room, Shelly exclaimed, noticing my quill art. “Lovely! How did you make it?” She was surprised to know that I learnt it myself by watching it online and also recorded my own video.

After having lunch, we spent the rest of the afternoon playing board games and watching a video of my virtual dance concert. Times were different and one had to make best out of the situation by exploring new things. Therefore, we concentrated watching an old classic movie for the night!

L’école a six étages. Les classes sont grandes et il y a beaucoup de salles différentes comme des laboratoires, une salle de danse et une salle de musique. Il y a aussi deux cantines, une cafétéria, une cour de récréation et une salle informatique.

What is Paleontology ?

Palaeontology is one of the lesser known but also one of the most important professions. Without paleontology, we wouldn’t be able to understand the Past and know about prehistoric animals like dinosaurs and primates and their prehistoric ancestors.

What do paleontologists do?

Paleontologists are scientists who try to reveal the past of earth. They go to specific locations to collect fossils and examine them. This is how we can find out the different types of dinosaurs or any other prehistoric animals , the food that they ate, their characteristics, the habitat they lived in and how they set foot on this planet.

What got me interested in paleontology?

When I was about 2 years old, I got very interested and fascinated by dinosaurs. I am still fascinated by dinosaurs to this date. They are very magnificent creatures .The last time I watched a movie related to dinosaurs,(Which was Jurassic park 3) in December of 2020, it got me thinking what paleontologists are so I googled it and found that paleontologists are the people who study ancient life and it includes dinosaurs too.
