Company Roots
An oil discovery, in 1879, at Pico Canyon (north of Los Angeles)leads to the formation of the Pacific Coast Oil Co.
The company later becomes Standard Oil Co. of California.
After the acquirement ofGulf Oil Corporation, in 1984, theychange the name of the company into Chevron.
The two companies merger is, at that time, the largest in U.S.
history.
In 1901, another major branch is formed in Beaumont, Texas, calledThe Texas Fuel Company. The name later changes into The TexasCompany and eventually, Texaco.
In 2001, the two companies merge to form Chevron Texaco.
In 2005, the company finally becomes Chevron, to convey aclearer, stronger and more unified presence around the world.
Nowadays, Chevron is one ofthe energy industry leaders,
increasing its crude oil and natural gas assets throughout the world.
