Lot 1, Patek PhilippeSold for 37.000 €

Lot 2, Patek PhilippeSold for 14.000 €

Married couple Reichel, Watch Museum Glashütte Stefan and Steffi Muser

Dr. Crott Auctioneers celebrated their anni-versary event with an exquisite collection of 100 truly spectacular lots, which proprietor Stefan Muser had brought to Frankfurt from all over the world – large clocks, fine pocket watches and - of course - a great number of classic vintage wristwatches.

The auction at the fully occupied Sky Loft of the Sheraton Frankfurt Airport Hotel started with a particularly rare item: Lot no. 1 was a Patek Philippe gold „Ellipse“ lighter embellis-hed with an enamelled Omani flag. Whether it was the unique appeal of this fine piece or the fact that Stefan and Steffi Muser were able to bring along the eponymous founder of the auction house, Dr. Helmut Crott, to kick off this historical event – with a staggering 37,000 € the lighter even overtook the marvelous auto-matic Ellipse d‘Or with gold bracelet that was presented straight after.

Lot 68, Patek PhilippeSold for 67.000 €

Lot 20, Patek PhilippeSold for 120.000 €

Once more it was the highly complicated wrist-watches made by Patek Philippe in Geneva, which fetched the most astonishing results: A perpetual calendar with moon phase and Roman leap year indication (ref. 3450, lot 37) was worth 238,000 € to a collector, while a minute repeater in a platinum case (ref. 5078, lot 62) with an enamel dial sold for as much as 312,500 €. A yellow gold Nautilus Jumbo (ref. 3700/1, lot 20) even achieved 120.000 € (including surcharges), while an early self-winding watch (ref. 2526, lot 68) dating from the 1950s with a spectacular gold bracelet by Ponti Gennari surpassed its estimate by far and sold for 67,000 €.

Lot 35, Lange & SöhneSold for 220.000 €

Other highlights of the auction – which took place in year of the 25th anniversary of the Lange 1 made by A. Lange & Söhne – were two remarkable and rare versions of this high-ly coveted model, a „Last Edition“ in a honey

gold case (lot 93, sold for 104,000 €), and one of the extremely rare Lange 1 stainless steel versions; this version was never officially laun-ched on the market and hardly ever appears at auctions (220,000 €, lot 35).

Lot 7, HeuerSold for 69.500 €

The collectors’ attention was also focused on the many rare vintage chronographs featuring a certain sporty appeal. One particularly early Heuer Autavia dating from 1962 boas-ting a truly spectacular patina (lot 7) fetched as much as 69,500 €; the super rare Heuer

Monaco (lot 46) – reverentially called „Dark Lord“ by its fans because of the square, black-coated case – went home with a collector for 51,000 €. Catalogue no. 10, a Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master dating from 1959 sold for as much as 80,000 €.

August Ericsson [16] (sold for 225,000 €) and a Grossmann pocket chronometer with pivo-ted detent escapement [69] (sold for 131,300 €) stood out in particular.

Lot 187, Seikosha Sold for 16.300 €

Lot 634, Lange & SöhneSold for 40.000 €

Our regular autumn auction (no. 101) on Saturday, 16th of November confirmed the excellent results of last night’s anniversary auction: The Japanese pilot’s watch that came as part of the mixed lot 187 sold for 16,300 €, while a „Lange 1“ [634] achieved 40,000 €; another coll-ector was happy to take home the Double Flying Tourbillon made by Roger Dubois [584] for 90,000 €. It is fair to say that after 26 years, Dr. Crott Auctioneers’ time at the Sheraton Frankfurt Airport Hotel ended successfully and on a truly high note!

The next spring auction on 9th of May, 2020 will already take place in Mannheim at the „Speicher7“ hotel. As the Sky Loft at the Sheraton Frankfurt Airport Hotel will not be available for the auctions anymore due to imminent renovation work at the hotel, Dr. Crott Auctioneers will be bringing their bi-annual events home to the „city of squares“ – the new venue is located on the banks of the river Rhine and in close vicinity of the company offices. The fast ICE connection to Frankfurt Airport and the walking distance to the centre of Mannheim ensure that the auctions will remain as well connected to all international destinations as they always have been.
