INTERNATIONAL NEWSINTERNATIONAL NEWSINTERNATIONAL NEWS Clubs will be asked on a ballot distributed on No-vember 26th by the International Headquarters, to approve proposed Constitutional changes: To adopt the new emblem (as a guideline the

motion was implemented immediately– vote not needed))

To have clubs vote on the change of name of the organization to “International Association of Y Clubs” To have clubs vote on including “Y Community Club” as another choice by which clubs can be called

Clubs are being asked to vote in favor of the changes for the following reasons:

Adoption of the motion to change the “umbrella

name” of the Association will not change what Members, Clubs, Regions, and Areas call themselves.

Adoption of the new name “Y Clubs Interna-

tional” eliminates the sexist image in English speaking and some other areas.

The name continues the recognition of our his-

toric partnership with the YMCA.

It will result in a consistent image if clubs in-

clude “Affiliated with Y Clubs International” fol-lowing their club name in PR articles and for-mal documents.

When the new emblem and umbrella name are

incorporated on web sites using historical names, it will provide a clear, unified impres-sion of our movement.

“Y Community Clubs” gives a new name option

for clubs with a community basis who wish to adopt the change.

U. S. AREA NEWSU. S. AREA NEWSU. S. AREA NEWS 2013 U.S. Area Convention will be held in Las Ve-gas, NV from July 18—21. Hotel accommo-dations are being arranged for the Hampton Inn, Tropicana Hotel, 4975 Dean Martin Drive (off the Strip and non-gaming). Rooms will be $84 per night (that’s under $95 with tax). Hotel phone number is (702) 948-1000. Registration fee will be $150 for all four days, in

cluding breakfast, lunch (2), and dinner (2). Com- mittee Chairman, TIM SINGLETARY, reports that speakers and forums “which will help to reinvigor-ate our mission”.

METRO DISTRICT NEWSMETRO DISTRICT NEWSMETRO DISTRICT NEWS The holiday party scheduled by the Metro District for November 30th may have a different location or the date may need to be changed. Stay tuned! Plans for the “Roll Back Malaria” Golf Tournament led by the Metro District and set for early February when the International Council meets in Honolulu, is asking for donations of prizes for goodie bags, raffles and awards, or cash. Starting times for tee-off will be between 12:00 noon and 2:00 at the Leilehua Golf Course on Wednesday, February 6, 2013. Chairman for the event, RAY SETO can be contacted at 398-0408 (cell) or PHIL SAMMER can answer questions at 923-1877. The tourna-ment fee is $100 per person with all profits to off-set the Hawaii Region’s commitment to “Roll Back Malaria”. Entry forms were distributed to club rep-resentatives at the November 3rd Regional Mid-Year Cabinet meeting. Should be “good fun” for a “good cause”!

HAWAII REGION NEWSHAWAII REGION NEWSHAWAII REGION NEWS The Mid-Year Cabinet meeting on November 3rd yielded several decisions: The Hawaii Region will NOT offer to host the

2016 International Convention in 2016 A Member Recognition program will be at-

tempted to recognize accomplishments for the year.

“Peace Through My Eyes”, a drawing contest for 5th graders is in full swing. The committee head-ed by LISA JOY ANDRES distributed packets to the club representatives at the meeting with in-structions and information on the contest. An in-structional video is also being produced by Youth Representative, JOY ANDRES which will given to each club. Clubs will be choosing 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, from which an overall winner will be selected by a panel of judges who so far includes, MICHAEL BRODERICK, CEO of the YMCA of Honolulu, and RD SHARON ISHIDA. At least one more judge will be asked to help with the selection.

A Message from the Branch Executive of the Kaimuki –WaialaeYMCA Aloha, Kaimuki Y ‘s Men! October was a month full of activity. We said good bye to Debbie Victor and Janet Ignacio as they moved their careers to Mililani Y. We welcomed Megan Parker as our Membership/ Healthy Lifestyles Coordinator, moving from the Office Coordinator position. We saw Daynna Flores take more responsibility as she will now be in charge of Payroll, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. We also got to promote one of our own Y’s Men to Youth Director - Jay Nishimura. On top of all the staffing moves, Early Education Program had their annual Trick or Treat around our Branch. Teens ran an awesome Haunted House (even though it got cut short by a tsunami warning!) and under Megan’s leadership, Membership ran a Pumpkin Carving event.

We now turn to November with many things to be thankful for like our wonderful Y’s Men Club that

supports our YMCA. Take care!

Noa Hussey, Branch Executive

The Club Coconut Wireless

YAY, JAY! Our club member and Y staff, JAY NISHIMURA, has been promoted to Youth Director at the Kaimuki YMCA, as JANET IGNACIO moves on to join Mililani Y as Childcare Program Director, and DEBBIE VICTOR become Membership Director at Mililani. CONGRATULATIONS to all of them on their new positions!

HE’S HERE! TAYLOR DUANE YEE made his appearance in this world on October 9, 2012, weighing in at a healthy 7 lbs. 4-1/2 oz., much to the long-awaited delight of his father and club member, TONY YEE, wife, KAORI, and big sister, MAILE. Welcome to our newest “Y’sling”, TAYLOR! (Daddy will get us photos for our next Lima Hana issue—promise!)

CONGRATULATIONS to BOBBY STIVERS-APIKI who was recently appointed as a trustee for a two-year term of the U.S. Area’s Alexander Scholarship Fund! Bobby is currently the Regional Service Director for ASF/DFS.

Our special prayers for healthier days to our own members, HELEN “GRANNY” USHIJIMA, as she continues to battle cancer with new chemotherapy treatment, and PHYLLIS SETO, who is recovering from surgery. Can’t wait to

see your beautiful smiles again!

Our Deepest Sympathy

A Y’sman to the end, ROBERT YET SUN “STEAMY” CHOW always had a warm and welcoming smile on his face for everyone. His legacy with the Hilo Y’s Men and Women Ser-vice Club is far-reaching and genu-ine. Bob’s other work in his career and community, included being a motor patrolman for the Hawaii County Police Department and a vol-unteer with the Hilo Tsunami Muse-um, which are just the start of his list of accomplishments. Declared “A Living Treasure” for Hilo, Bob was beloved by so many for all of his 90 years. He leaves behind his devot-ed wife, LILY CHOW, along with sons, ALLAN and LINDSEY, 2 brothers, 3 sisters, 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grand-children. Heartfelt sympathies to Lily and her family from your friends of the Kaimuki Y’s Men Club.

You will be dearly missed,

“Steamy”.
