• The term agency is used to refer to any governmental body or, more particularly, to a major unit headed by a single administrator of near-cabinet status. The term administration is used in a similar way

The Name Game

• The term commission is given to agencies charged with the regulation of business activities. Commissions are headed by varying numbers of top-ranking officers, or commissioners.

• The terms corporation and authority are used for agencies that have a board and a manager and that conduct business-like activities.

EOP

• EOP has about 2,000 employees & a budget of more than $100 million

• These are the people who work the closest to the president.

• They help him accomplish his many duties

• -The most important parts of the EOP are:

-White House Office

-Office of Management and Budget (OMB)

-National Security Council (NSC)

-Office of Administration

-Council of Economic Advisors (CEA)

White House Office

• close political advisors, lawyer, press secretary, etc screen the flow of information & people trying to reach the president.

• prepares the federal budget and monitors spending of federal agencies

• helps president coordinate the military & foreign policy
