Thank you for your responses, we will be applying the results in creating next year’s program and events. Learning : Extending our photo learning activities is a current focus (haha!) The classes we offer are all well attended with strong feedback. This topic should be on your radar. Two additional areas we are developing are Photo evaluation and Post Processing. Evaluation is critical to include set the right elements and remove the wrong elements from your images. Post processing is the final step in punctuating the image, ready to be shown.

Andrew Collett has always loved the character of the land, and the secrets it reveals to the patient eye. As a child, he spent his summers getting to know the landscape of Georgian Bay, Muskoka and beyond. He became an observer of nature, discovering the beauty of places and seasons that were often overlooked by others. Andrew started his career in the business side of visual design, and it was a number of years before he realized he had his own distinctive vision to express. In photography he found a powerful medium into which he could pour his boundless creative energies.
When a scene captures Andrew Collett’s eye, it’s because he has had a vision of what it could be at its best. It could be at four in the morning when the mists rise from the night-cooled land. It could be at seven in the evening as a thunderstorm batters a distant line of dark trees. Andrew’s goal is to capture a scene in exactly the circumstances when experience tells him it will be suffused with the most intense emotion. He works hard to grasp a fleeting feeling: one which lives for just a brief moment in a masterstroke of light, colour, shape, perspective… and timing. Gathered from the land, he brings moments to life and fashions them into fine images that are celebrated in interiors of all kinds, where the echoes of what he has experienced will resonate for years to come.
Andrew Collett loves his work. He considers it a privilege and a responsibility to bring these celebrations of our land into people’s homes. His hope is that his renderings of our natural beauty may inspire dreams and memories, and a particular kind of hopefulness that he has felt while walking the trails and pathways of our boundless, natural inheritance.

Learning from Photo Image Critiquing
The Giver The Receiver• Agree to be Honest.
• If you don't know what you're talking about, then don't!
• Know the difference between opinion and fact.
• Say what you LIKE about the photo. • Say HOW you think the image can be improved.
• Remember that the receiver may not like your critique or may not agree with your opinion doesn't mean that they're arrogant.
• Agree to Listen.
• Remember it is Subjective
• Find people that know the kind of work or genera you do (try not to pick close friends they may not be as honest).
• The giver should be willing to give written comments, that you can ask questions from.
• Do your homework, ask specific questions e.g. About exposure, composition, technique etc.
• The feedback is to learn from so don’t forget to express gratitude.

Exhibits: 2015
Current Exhibits: Rouge Valley Health in Ajax featuring Anni Gabud and Nick Janushewski. Images can be seen in the waiting areas of the west entrance.
Debbie's Boutique Cafe has been refreshed. Check out our latest batch of images from our Dec 2014 Fun Competition. Debbie's staff are running a customer judged competition at the Cafe. Customers can cast a vote for their favorite image on display and at each refresh, Debbie and Auggie tabulate the votes with the top three receiving gift certificates from the Cafe.
GTCCC Inter- Club Competition:The results are in and we did pretty good. This is our 3rd year competing in the association. This year we placed 9th out of 17 clubs that entered the competition. Congratulations to Peter Watson, Anni Gabud, and Tim Thorington who made the acceptance and honourable mention list in their respective categories. A big thank you to the 19 APC members who entered the competition. Individual scores are available from Bob Wilson for those who entered.
APC Competitions:APC Year End Print Competition will be judged on May 11th and then announced in the May Member meeting. All of the images submitted will be on display during this meeting and the winners will be recognized. Judging for this event will be done by 2 accredited GTCCC judges prior to the members meeting.

Photography TipsWhen taking photos of people in a crowded venue or event: To remove a cluttered or busy background, shoot upwards with an inferior angle of view to the sky. Have the person(s) or subjects lean forward to pose, while you crouch or kneel down. This is a fast way to eliminate other people in shot, an old photojournalism trick.

Cemetery Photo Contest In conjunction with our latest exhibition, Mourning After: The Victorian Celebration of Death, the Oshawa Community Museum is holding a photography contest, looking for the best original photographs from cemeteries in our City and beyond. The photos will be reviewed and judged by staff of the Oshawa Community Museum & Archives, and the top 15 will be on display at the Museum during the month of June 2015. The top photographer will receive a $50 honorarium, a one year complimentary individual membership to the Oshawa Historical Society, mention in Historical Happenings, the Oshawa Historical Society’s quarterly newsletter, and a complimentary copy of Until Day Dawns: Stories from Union Cemetery by Melissa Cole and Laura Suchan.
Deadline for submission is May 30, 2015. Entries are to be submitted to: Oshawa Community Museum & Archives
