School has started and Hurri- cane season is in full swing. I hope this newsletter finds everyone safe and sound from Harvey’s wrath. As I’m writing this there’s a storm brewing in the gulf that looks like it’s going to dump 20+ inches of rain in the greater Houston area. This is a great reminder for all of us to pre- pare in advance for these types of situations. I’m sure many of you have sat through one or two safety meet- ings. This is when all of that prepara- tion will pay off. If you are prepared you won’t panic and it’s less likely you will find yourself in some type of des- perate situation. The same can be said about prepara- tion in our professional lives as well. The better prepared and educated we are the better off we will be when at- tending a meeting, performing daily tasks and being a better designer and engineer. Whether you have are a young designer, EIT, CPD, PE or one of the various certifications that are required throughout our industry, go- ing back and expanding your knowl- edge base is paramount to being suc- cessful. This can be performed through self-study but more com- monly it is done through Continuing Education courses. Reminder: The summer break is ending so our next ASPE Houston general meeting will be held on Sep-tember 6th at the HESS Club. The presentation will discuss the various cross-linking methods to produce PEX, ASTM Standards and listings, mechanical fitting systems, and ap-plications for: potable water distribu-tion, radiant heating, snow melt and turn conditioning. The speaker will be Mr. Todd Anglin with Zurn PEX. Lunch for all engineers, designers and City Officials in attendance will be sponsored by Zurn PEX and Southwest Sales.

Also, please remember that the Houston Chapter will be hosting the Region V President’s meeting. ASPE Chapter President’s & Mem-bers from Central Illinois, Central Texas, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Kansas City, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Omaha, St. Louis and Wisconsin. This is a meeting where the Region Chapters gather to discuss ideas to help promote our chapters and not only increase membership but ideas to improve the benefits that the chapter provides to our members.
We will be putting together a Commit-tee to help plan the events and activi-ties for this event. If you are inter-ested in getting in front of engineers/designers from other parts of the country and would like to assist in the planning of this event please send me an email.
