IHC CHARITY COMMITTEE FEELING THANKFUL!
THANKSGIVING BASKETS: The Charity Committee is excited and proud to be helping six different local families with food baskets for this holiday season. We are very thankful for the generosity of the members of the Italian Heritage Center in the past years and are once again asking for your help in filling our food baskets. We will be accepting non-perishable food items such as canned fruits and vegetables, jarred sauce, pasta, cereals, soups, etc. There is a list of suggestions along with a drop off box in the Cantina. You can also leave your items in the back corner of the library. We have set a deadline date of Saturday, November 12 to drop off food, as that gives the committee an extra few days to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables to add to the baskets, then sort and deliver them to the families. Of course, cash donations are always welcome. Please make checks to IHC Charitable Trust. CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE: The Christmas tree will grow in the Cantina on Saturday, November 26!! The Charity
Committee will decorate the tree with traditional lights, Christmas balls AND our little angels and stars. The angels will have the wish of the family members we have adopted this year along with ages and gender. If you choose to purchase gifts for these families, we ask that you take an angel, purchase the gift, wrap it and tie/tape the angel to the gift so we know who it is intended for. The stars on the tree are for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine. The Foundation was so appreciative for the items that were donated last year so we decided to help the children that are going on their “magical wish trip” again this year. These items should not be wrapped. There will be
boxes under the tree to collect all the gifts. There will be more information at the November General Meeting and in the December newsletter. Once again, the Charity Committee thanks all of our members for their generosity and support. Please feel free to contact me at any time. Kathy Paquette, Charity Committee Chairperson (207) 272-0573

Italian Idiom for November: Buona Notte al Secchio :
Literally, good night to the bucket. It used to mean …and then we’re screwed. Why there should be a bucket involved, chi sa (who knows).

NOVEMBER ITALIAN MOVIE NIGHT Saturday, November 5th, 7:00 pm in the Cantina
“Detective Montalbano” “The Sense of Touch”
Montalbano’s back, and we’ve got him! Based on the International Best-Selling Mysteries by Andrea Camilleri, Luca Zingaretti stars as Detective Montalbano in Episode 7, “The Sense of Touch”. The deaths of a blind man and a local fisherman appear unrelated until Montalbano discovers each had large sums of money in their bank accounts. When another blind man dies, Montalbano’s investigation focuses on an organization that may not exactly deserve the title “charitable”. Movie is in Italian with English subtitles. Possibility of some brief, tasteful nudity and a little salty Italian language. Donations accepted to defray cost of DVDs. Join us for snacks and a contemporary Italian film.
DECEMBER ITALIAN MOVIE NIGHT
Saturday, December 3rd, 7:00 pm in the Cantina “QUO VADO”
Quo Vado” is a tale of Checco, a loafer from southern Italy, who has realized all his life’s dreams. He wanted to live perpetually with his parents to avoid cost of independent living-and he succeeded. He wanted to be eternally engaged, without the responsibility of marriage and child rearing; and he was. And he dreamed of a safe, secure lifetime civil service job and did anything to cling on to the pen-pushing post; and again, he succeeded, until……
Donations accepted to defray cost of DVDs.
Join us for snacks and an award winning Italian film.
Wine and Beer Tasting We are very excited about our upcoming wine tasting on Thursday, November 10, 2016. We will have wines and beer from DiMillo Imports, plus one more distributor to be announced. We will be pairing food with the wine and beer courses: breads, olive oils, aged balsamic vinegars, imported cheeses, olives, fruits and vegetables to start. Other food courses will be determined as the wines and beers are selected and the event draws closer. We will feature white wines, red wines and micro beer and of course coffee and sweets. Each distributor will discuss the wines as we sip and enjoy the courses. This will be educational as well as delicious.
Please reserve your table early.
