Residents, property owners, and anyone interested in the preservation of historic homes, churches, commercial buildings and archaeological sites are invited to learn about programs available through Virginia’s Department of Historic Resources (DHR) to help preserve the rich, tangible history of Southside Virginia. DHR offers technical assistance and incentives to boost the important work it takes to recognize, restore, and preserve historic buildings and sites. Join DHR staff as they briefly introduce you to DHR programs and incentives to preserve history and the legacies of Southside Virginia during a half-day event, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., October 24, at the Colonial Center for the Performing Arts, Town of South Hill in Mecklenburg County. The day will give you the opportunity to speak with DHR architectural historians and archaeologists during question-and- answer sessions. Programs discussed will include the Virginia Landmarks Register and National Register of Historic Places, historic rehabilitation tax credits, historical highway markers, stewardship of archaeological sites, and much more. Preserving History in Southside Virginia October 24, 2019 DHR thanks South Hill’s Colonial Center for the Performing Arts for hosting this event. Admission is free!
