PRESENTING
BENNET1
Jean FranklinEditor
Mr. Charles GarthAdvisor
Bennett College
Greensboro, North Carolina
In words and pictures
here is a review of
the events and
activities of
1 96 1 -'62
Here are the scenes
so familiar
We'll always remember
the countless hours . . .
of study . . .
work . .
or relaxation when we had a few free moments
It begins with Freshman week . . .
When some two hundred students
descend on the campus . . .
to shatter the tranquility which
has lasted since the close of
school . . .
T
Offices come alive with students
registering for courses . . .
Paying bills . .
Meeting their
Advisor . . .
I j
Student leaders get helpful
hints from visiting counselors
on how to make the freshman
feel at home . . .
The new students
get their first
taste of what
is to follow during
the next nine months .
J
The bookstore does
big business in books
and other supplies . . .
Freshman stage
their big talent
show before a
very critical
audience of
Upperclassmen
Always on hand are members
of the Personnel Department
to lend a hand to the
still somewhat
bewildered new students . . .
Roommate meets roommate
And in the weeks
that follow, many
other meetings
take place . . .
Faculty meet students
And in the classroom students meet teacher
New friendships
are formed . . .
\
Others maynot be so
casual . . .
September turns to
October, and soon
things becomeroutine, but there's
always the spice of
numerous events
and activities to
make life interesting
and constantly
busy . . ,
Founders Day . .
The white breakfast
at Thanksgiving time
Daily chapel is another of
these memories to
carry away . . .
And after chapel, onto
the next class . . .
I.
And so it goes, winter to spring .
Study sessions
in the library
.
Little Theatre Productions . .

Yearbook Staff
In keeping with the traditions of Bennett
College, the yearbook staff has compiled a
varied account of Bennett life. Composed of
representatives from the junior class the staff
has attempted to do its best in spite of the
many hours of hard work spent in preparation,
and the anticipations and the unexpected dif-
ficulties that seemed to arise. It is the hope
of all members that this record will prove to
be a constant reminder of the 1961-1962 year
spent at Bennett College.

Editors Note
Perhaps the four years an individual spends in college are the most cherished andimpressive years of his life. Realizing this, the Yearbook Staff has tried to capture
some of the outstanding events of the year and immortalize them in the yearbook. However, in a larger sense, it is difficult-even impossible-to preserve many of
the memorable events of the years because they are intangible. The sisterly atmos-phere which permeated the campus during freshman week, the subtle atmosphere or
anxiety which hovered over the campus during the final exams, and many of the phil-
osophically unsound and logically weak confabs of the dormitory "summits" are mereexamples of college life which successfully eluded the photographer's camera. Never-theless, we have managed to capture a small sample of the events destined to remainwith us forever.
As editor of the Bennett College Yearbook, I have experienced the psychological
and sociological successes and failures which must inevitably be the lot of one whowould assume and execute a delegated responsibility. It is my sincere hope that this
first edition of the Bennett College Yearbook will serve as an index to the earnestness
with which I have attempted to execute this responsibility.
To our predecessors, contemporaries, and posterity, we dedicate this edition of
the Bennett College Yearbook. It is our sincere hope that the efforts which are mademanifest in this book will serve as a source of dedication, inspiration and aspiration
to our readers.
