For what do we use the Present Simple?

Present simple • We use the present simple to talk about

things in general

Ex. Bees make honey.

Present simple • We use it to say that something

happens all the time or repeatedly (routines)

Ex.

I get up at 6 o'clock everyday

Present simple

• Or we use it for permanent situations

Ex.

John isn't lazy. He works

hard most of the time.

Affirmative sentences

I / we / you / they + drive / work /do , etc.

He / she / it + drives / works / does, etc.*

*Note the ending of the verbs in S, this is a rule you always have to follow to construct a good sentence when the subject is he/she or it.

*the ending -S only happens in the affirmative form and sometimes depending on the last letter it has to be an –es. (do--- does).

Present continuous • we use the continuous for things

happening at or around the time of speaking.

Ex.

I am getting hungry.

Let's go and eat.

Present continuous • We use it when the action is not

complete.

Ex.

They are speaking

other languages

Present continuous• Or we use the continuous for temporary

situations:

I am living with some friends
