The Automotive supply chain in

Abruzzo

The local automotive supplychain is a strong realityconstituted of a group ofcompanies operating in theengineering/automotivesector starting from LEs upto sub-suppliers of smallparts.

In economics terms, the all network involves 30.000workers : 25.000, only in Chieti Province.The total annual sales is 7÷8 mld€, which representsthe 20% of the all manufacturing sector.The 48% of the total production is destined to foreignmarket.

ObjectivesMain goal: to develop anautomotive system for industrialand commercial light vehicles(2/4/6 wheels; people andgoods transport), which is ableto strengthen and consolidatethe supply chain.

The program aims at improvingcompetitiveness and promotingthe consolidation ofinternationalized LEs to bringinnovation in terms of:

The Automotive Innovation Cluster , with the expectedcontribution foreseen within POR FESR, implementsthe following system actions:

B.1 marketing to attract new businesses in the Cluster;B.2 management of open access Cluster’s facilities;

B.3 organization of knowledge and technical andprofessional skills transfer programs, seminars andconferences to facilitate knowledge sharing andnetworking between the members of the Cluster, withthe following priorities:

• stimulate demand for innovation by companies locatedin the region through technological entertainmentactivities and punctual actions of needs identification interms of research and innovation;

This brand isassociated to automatic processes and, in particular, to thecataphoresis anti-corrosion treatment.

The path of excellence:

Phase 1: ROBOTIC WELDINGThe productive path of a semitrailer begin in the eightrobotic welding lines: a path in which automatic machiningand careful human control alternate with each other andgain strength to each other.

Phase 2: BLASTINGThe welded frame undergo a pretreatment preparatory tothe next anti-corrosion blasting treatment.. Here, within atunnel, the frame is hit by a high speed jet of metallicspheres by the means of a 1.000 kW turbine.

Phase 3: CATAPHORESISThe cataphoresis treatment ensures a protection fromcorrosion without parallel, confirmed by a resistance tocorrosion in salt spray fog up to 1.200 hours. The last phaseconsist in the robotic painting with monocomponent water-soluble painting with low impact on the environment.

Phase 4: ASSEMBLYThe assembly operations are undertaken in appositestations designed in order to guarantee ergonomics aspectsand maximum efficiency of specialized operators.

Since the Academic Year 1982-83 the Faculty ofMagistero, Medicine and Surgery, Engineering andMathematical, Physical and Natural Science, whichconstituted the free University of L’Aquila, foundedwith a decree of the President of the Republic onAugust 18 in 1964, became state. To these faculties,in 1991 it was added the Economics Faculty and in1963 the Magistero Faculty became the Faculty ofLiberal Arts. In 1996 the new Faculty of EducationalScience has been established, then in 1999 theFaculty of Physical Education and in 2005 Faculty ofPsychology and Biotechnology.

The heartquake that struck the city of L'Aquilaon April the six in 2009 caused mourning anddestruction also in the University. Right afterthat tragic event, students, professors andtechnical and administrative employeeexpressed their firm determination not to beoverwhelmed by the disaster and to resume themission with determination and pride thatplay with recognized reliability.

The "Gabriele d'Annunzio" University ofChieti-Pescara was first instituted as anindependent university in 1960, it waslocated in the medieval township of Chietiand comprised only few faculties. In 1982 itgained the status of national university andhas grown and is continuing to growexponentially since then.Currently it boasts twelve faculties and islocated on two campuses: one at Madonnadelle Piane, at the foot of the old townshipof Chieti, and another on the Adriaticcoastal town of Pescara.

At the vanguard for facilities, equipmentand educational programme, UNICHrecords a steady increase in populationthat reaches, in the academic year, thethreshold of 36,000 students despite itsshort history.
